The Rogues Gallery: Sanctuary

Eventually fodder for my Else Earth: Hero a day thread this is a brainstorming thread for some villains for one of my big (points are no object) heroines, Sanctuary.

Sanctuary is - in her mind at least - an Empath who can fly, oh and I'm tough too.  Endowed with her powers by aliens who seek to protect Earth Realm from a vague, undefined threat of great power, a somewhat broken woman is made whole and transformed into a defender of the innocent.

She has an impressive suite of empathic powers: she can read, alter, and project emotions in others - particularly positive ones. She can strengthen the will and resolve of those around her, banish fear on a massive scale, and provide mental defense for a large number of people. She also has an ecstasy wave that...incapacitates the target. But it kind of embarrasses her to use it.

A side effect of the transformation was an exceedingly strong physical form - capable of pressing about 25 tons above her head (STR 55) very durable, superhuman endurance and peak human reflexes. She can survive in space, has hardwired combat skills, and best of all can fly.

She's a native of Ohio and a big Cleveland Sports fan (Browns, Cavs, Indians, etc.) and something of a gamer. Her secret ID is a graphic/interior designer.

GM Notes: She falls somewhere between a Wonder Woman style warrior and Supergirl style alien in concept but a girl next door personality

Rogues Gallery:

  • Manfred McConnell: Industrialist, captain of industry, home grown mad scientist. A third generation American whose family emigrated from the UK to start a new life in the US. Manfred was born in Columbus, attended Ohio State University, became an "overnight" business sensation in the 80's. The mad scientist thing has been...recent. At first Manfred was satisfied being a genius in economics and mathematics. In 2005 he purchased a controlling interest in a pharmaceutical company that ran afoul of the FDA and was fined into oblivion.  Part of this was due to their controversial brain "enhancing" drugs. Manfred poured quite a bit of capital into the company, used his extensive contacts with various lobbying groups to get the FDA off his back and became a genius at several disparate disciplines. He transformed his mind and body, turned his company into a huge player, branching out into several different technologies and bought the Cleveland Browns in 2009. He likes control and wants to turn Cleveland into his own fiefdom. But he's very above the board in a big way there and kind of untouchable. (Lex Luthor style villain) He resents Sanctuary's popularity in her home state but kind of wants to possess her as well. She's frustrated by his criminal ties, how massively hard they are to uncover and the fact that he actually has the Browns competitive gives her conflicted feelings.
  • Discord: Greek Mercenary - works both sides of the hero/villain fence and has very similar, if mirroring powers to Sanctuary. The two don't like one another at all. Discord has over a century of experience in combat/supers combat, her Empathic projections revolve around the negative emotions, and she was here first. She thinks Sanctuary is a wannabe.
  • Adonis: Brick with "Beauty" powers. His powers make him very effective against foes that would be attracted to him. He usually appears with an adoring "Flock" to do his bidding. Sanctuary's mental defense and ability to free others of his control made him obsess with conquering and subjugating her. She finds him obnoxious and despite being immune to some of his tricks, he's a cagey, dirty fighter who's put her in embarrassing situations on occasion.
  • Jezebel the Vamp: Brick/Gadgeteer (already posted to the thread) who annoys Sanctuary on a personal level. She's an immodest, brazen hussy who slums with evil geniuses.

Any good tropes I'm missing? I don't have a "Friendly Enemy," could use another master villain perhaps.
