Background/History:  Rd123 was an experiment in extra dimensional travel. Loaded down with recording gear, Rd123 was sent through the Dimensional Gate developed by Dr Hanz Grubach. Dr Grubach, later referring to himself as the Mechanotheurge. The robot unit, found itself standing at the border of the elemental planes of Earth and Fire. The Unit was in a curious position; a series of summonings from the two planes called elementals to and fro. The "world" around it wavered. Suddenly it heard two raging voices in its audio sensors.

 

"RELEASE ME AT ONCE!" a voice of fire and brimstone shouted. The unit could detect no presence however.

 

"I WILL GRIND YOUR BONES!! LET ME FREE!!" Again, the unit could detect no physical presence. The voices seemed to be coming from its processor...

 

Unit Rd123 lurched. The Dimensional Summoning spell had gone awry, the two voices assailing its sensors continued to cry for freedom. A third voice suddenly sprang from its vocal unit "ENOUGH! WHO DARES SUMMON..." the robot stopped, the third voice was...its own? The processor choked on this new data.

 

At its feet lay a human in robes outside a summoning circle. The terrified magling that summoned it fainted dead away.

 

A systems check told the Rd123 that its systems had been altered significantly. It was quickly developing a personality that served meld the fiery temper of Sulphor with the determined violence of Rendaar.

 

This third personality began referring to itself as Vulcanex.

 

For a time, Vulcanex returned to work for its former master. However, its personality slowly evolved, merging the three raging intellects with the curious and helpful robot into a completely unique being. For all intents and purposes, Vulcanex became - alive.

 

Like Pinocchio before it, Vulcanex decided "he" was a real boy. The Mechanotheurge did not take this news as well as Gepetto did but after a brief battle, realized the robot was significantly more powerful now than it had been and cut his losses. Vulcanex found himself transported into orbit.

 

The new BiElemental King transported himself to the plane of fire, and began establishing a realm of his own. Then he travelled to the Plane of Earth and then finally back to Earthrealm. Now he builds his power base and waits. He has grown in power since his awakening and sees no reason for the growth to ebb. At some point soon he will control all three planes.

 

Personality/Motivation:  Vulcanex has changed a bit as he has evolved. Though he still hears the voices of Rendar and Sulphor on occasion they are quiet, exhibiting any form of control only when the living robot is tired or damaged. The likelyhood of him going on a berserk rampage has been eliminated though he may obsessively attack a particular threat if the voices drive him to it.

 

Though he is still dismissive and contemptuous of the flesh, he's no fool and understands there are significantly more powerful beings than the norm. He calculates their interference with his plans but knows that if he concentrates on the other planes first he won't have to deal with them as readily.

Powers/Tactics:  A devastating Brick with some powerful but limited fire and earth based abilties. The flaming wings can be summoned and dispersed at will. It is highly resistant to fire and cold.

 

Campaign Use:  Once an easily distracted engine of destruction. Vulcanex can still be counted on to do significant property damage whenever he appears. However, his plans don't involve Earthrealm yet so they may seem odd to the casual viewer or investigator.

 

Appearance:  A twelve foot tall silver humanoid with stone shoulder, "gauntlets", and feet. A single red "T" glowing like fire behind glass serves as a face on a thick, slightly rounded, neckless head.
