  1. Re: "Neat" Pictures

My new thrift store treasure. I never buy clothes on impulse, but I saw this and had to have it. Got a lot of compliments for it, too

Very nice! I have one a bit louder then that, but you can't go wrong with wrong shirts! I'll see if I can get a picture of mine.

  2. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore

If it's a good crust than it's just a good piece of bread. Love good bread...

This. The crust is the foundation upon which the pizza stands. It should be good enough to eat straight. If it's not, you should probably look elsewhere for your pizza.

I'm not sure what I'd want on a pizza with a hot dog stuffed crust. It would have to complement the flavor of the dogs. Maybe chili, onions, mustard, and cheese. Make a giant coney dog pizza. It would be easier to match flavors if you stuffed the crust with italian sausages.

Hrm. If you are getting that' date=' then you don't have the distances correct (I experimented and saw that when I moved my finger too close or too far, I could easily get that result). Try keeping your gaze glued to the tip if your finger as you adjust the distance from your nose. At one point, you should (IMO) be able to notice that there are three images (worked for both the Merman and Mermaid) on the screen behind your finger. While keeping your gaze focused on your fingertip, shift your attention to the screen, and then you have the best chance of seeing the image in "3D".[/quote']

Or there is the traditional method of seeing mermaids. Spend a long time cooped up at sea with no women around and drink a lot of rum.

  4. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

It was the game I could find. Sorry. And I didn't way I was rooting for the Yankees. (Why is it in all the years I've been a baseball follower and sportsgamer I have yet to encounter a real Yankees fan in the wild?)

You are on the wrong coast. I couldn't swing a dead cat and not hit 5 around here. And when they come after me for hitting them with said cat, I can just point at a convient scapegoat, shout "Red Socks fan!" and escape in in ensuing chaos.

I'm only sorta a baseball fan, and root for the Cubs given the choice.

Having exhausted all the appetizing ways to consume their favorite pig parts' date=' the "Bacon über alles" movement began grasping at straws.[/quote']

If you wanted to do a bacon cake, you could alternate layers of red velvet and white (or just have thin layers and a lot of frosting) Sort of like a marble cake, but in layers to look like bacon. Do a sheet cake, very flat, and cut it into long strips, rather then squares, to serve. Keep your bacon theme, but be, you know, edible...

This makes me wonder what euphemisms people used back then.

And what euphemisms do people use in countries where they don't play baseball, anyway? (Maybe that's not an appropriate discussion for this thread....)

It could be used to disprove evolution, or at least that the nature of Man hasn't changed in the last 5,000 years

  7. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life.

You have my sympathy. I am still learning to just smile and say thank you when someone cooks for me or does something for me or gives me a gift even if it is not perfect or not what I want. Even if it is useless. I will know I have made real progress when I stop throwing plates back at people who put pickles on them or on the sandwich.

Also the Dunkin' Hines that existed in your Nana's day bore not the slightest resemblance to the mixture of chemicals, artificial colors, artificial flavors and sixteen tons of High-Fructose Corn Syrup that fills their boxes today.

I probably should have put in some joking smilies, as the whole exchange was very tongue in cheek. I'm not even sure if I (or anyone) could tell the difference between brands. It's all just puffed sugar foam. What really makes the cake is the orange frosting, which is homemade.

A few years ago when my dad was up for his birthday, I was going to go all out and scratch bake an angel food cake. When I asked my mom for the recipe, she told me she used a box, and that my grandmother had been using a box mix for my dad's birthday cake for as long as she had known him.

What really gets me is The Boy wants a yellow cake for his birthday, rather then a chocolate one. At least he's not asking for pie...

  8. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life.

My folks were up visiting on my dad's birthday.

Me: Look, I even made a birthday cake using Nana's recipe (holding up a box of Betty Crocker's angel food cake mix)

Mom: No, she used Duncan Hines.

(I normally scratch bake cakes, but I was trying to follow my grandmother's recipe for my dad...)

  9. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore

I burned a frozen pizza last night. Still ate it. I remember now that some people prefer their toast burnt' date=' but I won't be making that my preference.[/quote']

The Wife likes food burnt. Reminds her of her grandmother's cooking. My mother-in-law has some major food phobias. She cooks everything far longer then it needs to be, just to be sure to kill any germs (and flavor). One of the worst examples that comes to mind is one easter we had a pre-cooked spiral cut ham. We could have just cut and ate it, but she insisted on cooking it as if it was raw. Twice baked works for some things, but turns ham into shoe leather.

I've also had salad with grilled, diced, chicken where I would be hard pressed to tell the meat from the croutons.

Not so much as he used to be' date=' but Top Gear (the REAL one) only comes on BBC America, and not everyone can afford more than basic cable right now. I NEED my television, so I'm willing to cut costs elsewhere.[/quote']

Netflix has it as well. If you don't have to see thing RIGHT when they come out, Basic cable + Netflix gets you a lot of content. More then shelling out for extended cable packages or premium channels. You just end up watching things one season behind the rest of the world.

  11. Re: Order of the Stick

I'm sorry, I call malarki. Malarkey?

First, the spell was never originally described as being that powerful. Second, even the updated description still shouldn't have allowed it to kill the non-dragon blood descendants (i.e. non-bastard children I guess) of those who had previously mated with a Draketooth. They don't "share blood" in any sense that I find convincing.

By my estimation, the spell apparently extended as far as unrelated aunts and uncles via their non-dragon blood children. Wow.

OK, here is what we have as a description:

Every living creature that directly shares your bloodline is dead.

Every living creature that is directly related to any of *those* creatures is also dead.

Anyone who could possibly make a claim to be part of your family is now gone.

The Draketooth clan is covered under the first line. If they had a kid with some random person, that child is defiantly part of the clan, and covered under the first line. Now the child's non-clan parent, his aunts, uncles, non-clan grandparents, etc, could be covered by the second line. The question is how far out you want to stretch the "directly" But if a Draketooth woman had a one-night stand and got pregnant, some unsuspecting bloke just got offed by the familcide; there is no way the father is going to dodge the wording of the second line. Half/step siblings might be covered. Part of the problem is that the only information we have on the spell is smack talk during the fight, but not the text of the spell in a rules-like format. This makes it impossible to figure out exactly how far it stretches.

  12. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore

That's not bad, but I prefer this instead:

    PushButtonReceiveBacon.jpg?1318992465

The problem with those is keeping them stocked. Everyone of them I've seen still works, you press the button, and the heating element kicks on; but instead of hot, crispy bacon, all you get is air. And not even bacon-scented air.

On that note: I'm pretty sure they make bacon scented air fresheners. I should buy a bunch and shove them into the vents of the empty bacon dispensers, so at the very least people can get the fresh bacon smell when they push the button...
