  1. Looking at the Character Ability Guidelines from page 35 of 6E1, and using the Very Powerful Heroic guides (for example) it says that the average DC of an attack will be 5-10, and the average DEF will be 8-12. Assuming an average attack of 8 DCs, and an average total DEF of 10 (say, 5 PD plus 5rPD, same for ED/rED), most characters will be stunned almost every time they get hit. 8 DC x 3.5 (average roll) = 28 STUN on a Normal Damage Roll. With 10 PD versus STUN, that means a character would take 18 STUN from an attack. That means a character needs an 18 CON or higher to avoid getting Stunned with an average attack. That seems a little extreme. What math / campaign decisions am I missing? What am I doing wrong?
  2. Re: "Encounter" Powers Right. I would define it as "getting a five minute breather." So, if combat is over, but the characters have to sprint through the halls to get out of the castle before the whole building implodes from the arch-villain's magical doomsday device, then the fact that 'combat' has been over for ten minutes is irrelevant. They need to rest. Perfect, thank you.
  3. In order to ease the transition for some of my D&D 4E friends, I've decided to include in their character builds some "Encounter Powers." For those unfamiliar, D&D breaks down abilities into three categories: "At-Will" (as often as you want, no worries, standard in HERO), "Daily" (Ditto), and "Encounter" (once per "encounter," defined as combat without time for a five minute rest. A five minute rest gets you your Encounter powers back.). I was going to mimic the idea that you can use an ability once per combat as a single recoverable charge, but the rules say that that's not what Recoverable is meant for. I realize it's a toolkit, but I was wondering if there might be another way to create a Talent or Spell that can be used once per combat, and you get it back with a five minute rest. Thank you.
  4. The campaign I'm working on has a lot of automata. Think, Star Wars level of Droids. Most of them are as intelligent as a Human with an 8 INT. For those that are just in a standard, bipedal body, I'm thinking of handwaving the Computer, and just ruling that they're as smart as an 8 INT would represent. I want to avoid that. I just want them to behave like an 8 INT, but I don't want to build a Computer for every single Automaton. (There will be a lot of different types.) Has anyone done this? What problems do people foresee with giving Automata problem solving abilities. (I mean, game problems, not, robots overrunning the universe problems.) Thank you.
  5. Re: room filled with water Yet at the same time, there is one power to "Get" a vehicle. It's either a Perk or Summon. And while I would just use Transform "Air into Water" and hand-wave what happens if there is no air (unless it's Star HERO or Galactic Champions or some campaign where you're always in space), you could also just Summon it, which would be super cheap. Just build 4,000 square feet of water (or 113,267 litres), which is mostly just size, no BODY, no DEF. Then, give it Slavish, and BAM, cheap easy Summon. Now, if it's being used mostly as an attack (instead of just to get lots of water to thirsty people, or a make a fountain), then it's probably more fairly costed our as a Transform.
  6. Re: Modular Heroic Design I was just curious why the UAA on the characteristics, instead of Aid. I'm not a total expert in 6E yet, but I was just interested in why that route?
  7. Re: Modular Heroic Design If a moderator could please delete this thread, much appreciated.
  8. Re: Modular Heroic Design This is perfect! Thank you. But may I ask - why UAA, instead of Healing/Aid?
  9. Re: Hardened Invisibility versus . . . ? That's actually a great idea, I think. I like it as a Limitation on the Invis, though it might make basic invis too cheap. I'll have to see. I think I'll make the Detect the standard detect with increasing advantages. Thank you, I'll have to stat this out. Much appreciated.
  10. Reading another thread, where multiple people commented on using a grid map in 6E, I was curious, even though the game doesn't refer to hexes or inches anymore, Does anyone still use hexmaps for 6th Edition?
  11. Re: Some newbie rules questions Always good advice. I never remembered that when I was starting out.
  12. Re: Hardened Invisibility versus . . . ? Simpler in that I was hoping to create an "Invisibility III" without making it a compound power of Invisibility I, II and III. Hardened/AP seemed to accomplish that by just being levels of one advantage. (I chose AP just because it and Hardened literally "cancel" each other out, which was the effect I was going for.) I'll look into doing it with Images instead of Invisibility, see what I can come up with.
  13. Re: Hardened Invisibility versus . . . ? My problem with this is that I want there to be more than one tier of invisibility. I'm thinking, perhaps five that the PCs will encounter. I was hoping there was an easier way than Compound Power: Invisibility versus Sight, Invisibility versus Magic Level 1, Invisibility versus Magic Level 2, Invisibility versus Magic Level 3, and Invisibility versus Magic Level 4. Then I'd have to build the military grade detection as Compound Power:Detect Invisible to Sight, Detect Invisible to Invisibility to Magic Level 1, Invisibility to . . . etc. I was hoping it could be simpler. Do you have a rationale for not using Hardened in this circumstance?
  14. Re: 6E Bastard Sword I will file that away for a future musketeers campaign, but given that most of the swords in my current campaign have +2d6K against Undead or Teleporting or Flash, I think the base damage doesn't need that much work. ;-) But thank you. That opens up a lot of possibilities.
  15. Re: Some newbie rules questions Awesome.
  16. Soliciting thoughts: In my campaign, magic is incredibly pervasive. As such, it's not particularly difficult to become invisible. Magic tattoos, cloaks, potions - invisibility is relatively affordable (think, a gun - not sold at Wal*Mart, but if you want it, it's not that hard to get). Now, because of this, invisibility detection is also pretty easy to come by. I'm thinking of building this as a Detect. As such, high grade invisibility exists, as well. I was thinking of building that as Hardened Invisibility. Now, military grade detection would be... Armor Piercing Detect? Other thoughts on how to build this?
  17. Re: 6E Bastard Sword No END. Got it, thank you.
  18. How is it built in 6E? I'm trying to build magical weapons in HD, and I want to start with the basics as defined by the book. I've got: Bastard Sword HKA 1 ½d6 (25 Active Points); STR Min 9-13, Real Weapon, Required Hands One-And-A-Half-Handed Stretching 1m, Reduced Endurance (0 END); Only To Cause Damage, Always Direct, no Noncombat Stretching But that's a 26/9 AP/RP build. 204 of 6E2 costs it out as 39/13. What am I missing from those weapon builds?
  19. Re: "Bloodied" in HERO Well, the interesting side effect of using STUN, is that improving your REC would take you out of the Bloodied phase rather easily.
  20. Re: Modular Heroic Design Well, I'm not looking to market it. The PDF would just be posted for any HEROphiles who wanted some help with new players.
  21. Re: "Bloodied" in HERO Ghost Angel: My rationale for the -1 for Bloodied is akin to yours - that lack of yoyoing is going to mean there will be many combats where a character is never Bloodied, as opposed to in D&D, where a character likely has a chance to get Bloodied (and then healed) much more easily. The fact that when a character in HERO is "Bloodied," he's in a lot more trouble, was my reasoning for a full -1.
  22. I'd like to incorporate the D&D rules for Bloodied into my campaign. Has anyone tried this? Stories of success or failure? I was thinking powers/talents activating could include the following Limitations: Only When Wounded: -1/4 (Only when character has taken 1 or more Body) Only When Bloodied: -1 (Only when character is at 1/2 Body or below.) Thoughts? (I tried a search and didn't find anything, but maybe this has been brought up in a previous thread, because I can't believe I'm the first to want to try this.)
