  1. I couldn't locate this upon my last go through, so I thought I'd mine those of this site for answers. If I buy a vehicle with multiple weapons, can I drive and shoot them all, only 1, 1 per operator, etc. I doubled the number of weapons with the 5 pts for second gun, but I'm not sure I can use it.
  2. Re: Need feedback & help building 2 vehicles I've included a link of the write-up with this post. It includes all forms and vehicles used. I figure it's easier to read this way then by piece-meal comments and allusions.
  3. Re: Need feedback & help building 2 vehicles 1) IIF is indeed safer. Would an inactive body count as bulky? 2) I think it would qualify as the 'not in enviros that prevent radio reception', which is a 1/4 3) The satallite has already been modified beyond its original intent. I have scavanged parts from other satallites, adding weapons. Also, I can use the telescope and radar 'out of the loop', so that Nasa doesn't see what I do. 4) Instead of regeneration - resurrection, I could by a trigger for my teleport & multi-form. Each form has +20 stun, +5 body, only vs damage from prior body (-1). The gm said each body would need resurrect. 5) GM said no to possession - said use multiform and pay the cost of what the body can do. 6) Yeah, bases have to pay for their location, but vehicles do not. Since he manuevers the satallite towards space junk to collect parts, I figure its more vehicle then base. I think a base pays something like 30 points to be in space. 7) Well, I figure that the lack of sight is not a problem, it means that a driver/pilot must interpret the data. The mech is inactive without me plugging into it. The targetable driver bit is a tad worrysome. 8) First he would need to physcially handle it to infect it with nano-machines in order to 'prepare the way'. Afterwords it would be easy, but scary. A computer is so easily destroyed that I think I'd rather opt to hack it then put my soul into it.
  4. Re: Need feedback & help building 2 vehicles 1) The focus idea is great, although I'm unsure if it should be OAF or OIF (and the character doesn't have the bodies on him, they are located elsewhere in the city or even state. 2) I love the affected as radio group! A 1/4 limit I'm sure. 3) I put the satallite as a vehicle because of its booster rockets (a small movement). I could have done it as a base, but a vehicle sounded more accurate to me. 4) The regen w/ resurrection sounds great, I just need the points to make it work! 5) I'm firmly entrenched in 5th edition for budget reasons, as well as not wanting to re-write all my existing material. I'll see if I can locate a 5th edition version of possession. 6) I picked up the pdf of the ultimate vehicle book, so I'm starting to research things. I don't have the ultimate base, though. 7) Vehicles may apply the bulky limit to their focuses w/out limiting their movement. Go figure. ** The character multi-forms 1) Parasite robot riding in the satallite. Prime form, although not likely to see action, he has a blaster and a magnetic tk. 2) Adonis, a android made by aliens to infiltrate human society. A MA with multiple damage shields. Very human looking. 3) Arsenal, a pared down parasite robot wearing a modified battle suit. 4) Blue Man, a android made by aliens to infiltrate another alien society. A brick with growth, invis, or force wall. 5) Onslaught, a pared down parasite robot riding a battle mech. ** He can possess robots, androids, and perhaps cyborgs. He can infiltrate computers but doesn't have a computer form.
  5. Re: Need feedback & help building 2 vehicles Oh, i used the bulky focus limit because I used the vehic sourcebook example of the battlevan, mole machine, jetcar, & flying saucer - or are you meaning that if I take it as a multi-form or follower I'd have to drop bulky? The 'driver' of the transformer is a small parasite robot - the same type that is hiding on the satalight. The parasite robots look like a skinny terminator w/out the meat. Backdrop: the character DEM or Deus ex Machina, is a human soul that bounces between several robots, all altered by nanobytes to be receptive to his soul. One such robot is on a satallite. He bounces himself via radio frequencey from one body to another, although they all pass through the satallite, either directly into the robot body there or bounce off the satallite into another body. I bought this as multi-form combined with a teleport (to where ever another body is). One form is a powered suit of armor w a powerful computer lodged inside the suit, so I was trying to make the mech into a different kind of build (a vehicle w/ a small robot driver). It's possible for him to exit the mecha in his robot body, he is, while not powerful, capable (about as tough as a character 100 pts less pts then he is). Posession: I could make the character a Jericho with a bunch of followers, but that could leave me insulated from combat (unable to be knocked out in most circumstances). Probably more true to the character design, but I intended for him to take his lumps in combat, get knocked out (pain from feedback via dmg), and have to scramble to survive tough encounters. Also, when he jumps bodies, he leaves the one he was in last behind, leaving it prone & susceptible to destruction or damage. If they are followers, that means they get killed instead. I'm not sure what a gm would do with repeated sacrifices of followers. With the bodies spread about, unless he has plenty of time to arrange them near each other, typically only a single body is nearby local events (luck of the draw), although in long term games he can move bodies closer together. He was inspired by the character Noman, although quite different in bodies and personality. I'll see if I can track down possession and the option of going with a limitation to take dmg as the possessed follower takes dmg. Assuming I wanted to keep the mech a vehicle, does it look competent? I do not have the ultimate vehicle (where they wrote up some mechs), so I am unsure how this one compares. Either way, thank you for the feedback, its given me quite a bit to consider.
  6. Re: Need feedback & help building 2 vehicles 1) I hadn't thought of that... the parasite is the character, who will be improving the satellite over time. I'll write it up as an automaton and see how it looks! 2) The character is a soul that possesses machines, including this transformer. I'd be giving a multi-form of a character a seperate multi-form. I could just add another form to the main body to reflect this, though. Does the current write up look like a decent (but small) transformer?
  7. Re: Need feedback & help building 2 vehicles This 2nd vehicle is a mech the size of a compact or sports car. I'm not sure if I should bother with the wheels limitation as the mech can also run. I assume but can be wrong that extra limbs allows it to punch/kick objects. It has a 2nd MP as it has a turret of sorts on each shoulder. The Nanobytes are a specialized nano-tech attack that re-writes machines and computers, making them loyal or even modifying their function some. The hack & internet attack are an extension of this - it can MC a machine it can not touch, though permanant modification requires LOS & range for nanobytes. I plucked the 360 radar from the vehicle sourcebook, but looking at the 5th edition hero sys book, it looks like 360 is free w/ the radio/radar sense. 8. I'm not that great at building vehicles in 5th. Below are 2 vehicles, a mech and a satalight. Feedback would be great! I'd like to know if they are kosher, things I missed, etc. 1st) A satalight that has a robotic parasite comprimising the computer. The satalight was never intended for living creatures (thus no LS). Its primary purpose was as a weather satalight, the computer that handled that is now part of the parasite. If it were removed, a replacement computer would be needed. The defenses are very high, but it has been reinforced by the robot. I gave it poor movement and strength because it would seem to me that satellites barely qualify as vehicles rather then bases and use weak attitude jets. 9. Re: Tell me about your campaign world. What follows is my introduction page for new players, it gives the current view/take on reality that science and government is using. A Super world Superstring theory suggests, in one of its incarnations, 11 dimensions. These additional dimensions interact with our daily lives the same way a circle interacts with a 3-dimensional world (4-dimensional world after you take time into account), its there but its not. So humanity exists among many dimensions, and just like the circles, we can’t see past our limited frame of reference. In the far past, though, the additional dimensions were turbulent, interacting with our dimensions and each other, but like dust allowed to settle, over time the dimensions calmed down and ceased interacting with our ‘realm’. In 19371, though, our solar system passed through a dark-matter cloud and our planet was struck by multi-dimensional meteorites. Almost entirely unnoticed, it started a change in our galaxy, and more importantly, our world. Interaction with these dimensions follows esoteric rules and seemingly illogical connections. Just as in chemistry, the angle of molecular bonds can change the properties of materials, and how a viruses ability to connect with proteins is determined by a topology that is, without detailed knowledge, like magic; so to is our world’s effects and connections limited with these other dimensions. The impacts that have ‘stirred up’ these dimensions was not immediately noticed, but location, genetics, and random chance brought our modern world of supers into being – or at least, alignment2. It triggered technology that exceeds all prior concepts, and allows the creation of materials that science laughed at the mere concept of before. Newton’s world suffered a mortal blow. Magic doesn’t exist, but we have discovered a whole realm of possibility that, to our uninitiated minds, might as well be magic. Individuals can have a propensity for super powers, otherwise referred to as mutants3. Genetic codes that allow interaction with additional dimensions exist, although it typically requires an amazing and rare set of circumstances for these powers to manifest. While not literally true, the belief in astrology that claimed your birth time and location determined who you are and your future were, in a way, correct – just not in the way it was thought. Not all mutations are positive and a small percentage of yearly deaths are from these genes allowing fatal reactions to occur. It is not only the body that can change, minds are just as susceptible. Some even believe that prions4 are a result of gene-dimension interplay. One dramatic change that has occurred is in power potential differential changes – like how a battery uses the difference in potential to create the flow of electrons, so too do some dimensions have higher power5, allowing the miniaturization of power sources that use exotic, multi-dimensional materials. Material technology has jumped forward as well, the additional dimensions allow for angles of molecular connection that were inconceivable in the Newtonian world humanity grew up in. These power sources and exotic materials are rare right now, not only are special materials needed, but the location, workers, and tools have to ‘extrude’ into other dimensions just right. It will take a few generations for mankind to get the hang of interaction, but it is a question of when, not if. Realization of the changes in science took a long time, it was the early 60’s before scientists stopped arguing and began re-measuring, and is today, still ongoing. The availability of these materials6 is poor, creating a gold-rush environment, with territory battles, war, and legal battles following discovery at every turn. While a world war seems far off, smaller wars seem to be springing up all over the globe. The world is experiencing some painful ‘growing pains’. To further complicate the issue, changes in technology have allowed humanity the best view of space it has ever had; bringing proof that there is intelligence beyond our solar system.7 One facet, not commonly realized, is that while some people are mutants with distinct differences from humanity, there are ‘talents’, people who can make supposedly impossible technology, that can not be used by others8. They are capable of creating equipment that functions despite sciences insistence that it shouldn’t. It seems that these talents unconsciously manipulate matter in other dimensions, meaning that the device is partially made of dark-matter. They can somehow reach into the other dimensions to manipulate the equipment so that it produces results. Despite the media’s labeling this ability ‘magic’, this is literal technology in use, just beyond the reach or senses of the majority.9 1 1937 is the current estimate for the year of impact by the meteorites. This is a liquid, not hard, date. It is known that the first superhero, the phantom, appeared in 1940. His memoirs fail to allow historians and scientists more information. The phantom died in 1984. 2 Claiming that supers have been brought into being imply a spontaneity that is spurious. There is the potential, now, but the circumstances required to bring it to fruition is still beyond current science. 3 Congress is currently debating the nature of mutants and the need to register them. One question troubling them is the right to privacy, and at which point is a mutant considered a mutant? Is it from the point of potential (via gene testing), once triggered, or if the whole question will be viewed by our children as a case of hysteria and racism. 4 Prions are not the only illness that is believed to be spawned/related to the dimensional contamination. As there is no sure method to shield people from this possible contamination, it is under study but not to be disseminated among the public. The link to prions has caused enough problems. 5 Despite advances in the field of power generation, large generators are too dangerous to produce as of yet. These power sources risk explosive output that progresses rapidly with increases in size. Until safety can be assured, generators will be limited to man size and smaller units. 6 There are currently 12 raw super materials that can be harvested, although NASA has begun scanning the solar systems for such deposits. It is expected to uneasy going, as China, India, and Germany have begun their own searches. Precedent for territory claims in space is coming soon. 7 Contact has already been made, with 4 distinct races of creatures, as well as generational communications (over 40 years of effort) with a 5th. The use of super materials is fundamental to the designs used by the aliens so far encountered, making earth a possible target for harvesting. 8 Currently, ‘talents’ are not considered mutants. Talents are as rare as triggered/active mutants, and the lack of access to potential material reduces the number that show themselves even more. 9 Under scientific review are several cases of ‘magic’. Government agencies are still researching the claims of several individuals, but they are under strict orders to prove the deniability of magic. The talents (creators and users of advanced and or unique technology) are my attempt to keep the genie in the bottle as far as super suit characters. Their existence begs the question as to why the suits are not mass produced. The only argument that keeps it out of mass production's hands is the assumption of extreme cost - but given the power of a good suit, the government could build less bombers to build more suits and come out ahead on the power curve. Also, high expenses then create the problem of how replacements happen, why villians who capture an armored hero doesn't capture, then sell the armor, leaving the PC screwed.

  15. I'm going to be playing a converted character (from 5th to 6th), and to further complicate things, the character has the ability to summon 1 of 4 alice in wonderland characters to help him fight/paint fences/etc. I do not have the 6th edition books but I am trying to guess at the write-ups (I've seen some conversions so I have at least a partial understanding of the alternate method of buidling characters/NPCs. If someone could help me make these summons properly and still have them functional (it is a 400 pt game and my summons are 195 pts). What follows is my write-up in a bastardized 6th edition translation (1 per post)
  16. Re: New players welcome Sounds great! I'm trying to recover my password for herocentral so I can log in / apply. As to characters, I have 2 in mind (not both at once, simply 2 to see which one you like). Both are 5th edition. The first is more 4 color, a teen with dimension altering powers and the ability to fold space to create origami creatures based on alice in wonderland. He is a happy/positive code vs killing true blue hero. His dark side - he stole a costume from a display for a heroic side kick. Why? The costume material he had to work with couldn't stand up to his force field, and his allowance isn't enough to purchase the exotic materials his suit would need. For what its worth, he does feel guilty about the whole thing. The second is much more gritty. A fellow who accidently killed a fellow student during a fight because his force powers triggered. Not intentional, he still went to jail. Fealing guilt and seeking redemption, he has a 'stained' life. As a normal, he is an ex felon trying to make it as a private detective. As a hero, he is thought of as a mercenary. He has sought paying work as a hero - mostly because he has a staggering student loan, inability to find a decent paying job where he isn't working for himself, and needs to get by. So, he isn't very popular in either identity. Would either character be workable?
  17. Re: New players welcome Sorry to inundate you with questions, but I'm interested in this game. So... What is the point total for the characters? The approximate/equivalent year? Technology level? Major differences between this world and yours? How often will the posting be expected/required? Is this 4 color, gritty, dark champions, or other genre? Thank you, Beazulbob
  18. Re: Villains and vigilantes thread Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for!
  19. Re: Was this a real rule, or just a house rule? Ah, it was my house rule. Thank you very much. I was going over some old character write-ups and I had applied the limitation to them, but since it isn't a rule, I'll update them so they match the same rules the rest of the world uses. Thanks!
  20. Re: Was this a real rule, or just a house rule? I'm a tortoise, still using 5th edition. Now, wouldn't taking 16 charges for each of 4 slots (64 charges total), be overpowered? More charges for any one slot then you will likely need, 0 end, and you have a total # of charges equal to a +1/2 advantage on the multi-power. You do lose some flexibility, but a +0 modifier rather then +1/2 is worth it, I'd think. Perhaps this was just my own house rule (I think I used it back in 2nd edition, but I'm not sure).
  21. I'm looking for the V&V thread of conversions to champions, but my web-fu is weak. I can not seem to find it. It is postings in alphabetic order, with the latest one I remember being bladespinner. Does anyone know of this posting (& have a link or title for this)?
  22. I remember in the champions games I played awhile back that if you took charges in a multi-power slot, you dropped the # of charges 1 step. This was automatic and to offset the advantage of having tons of slots, each with 16 ch (so 0 end). Was this a house rule, or an actual rule?
  23. Re: Setting the range of powers Hello Lawnmower Boy: Cool! I'll see if I can locate a used copy of champions universe (I have a tight budget - I'm unemployed). The ultimate energy projector breaks down energy types and the related effect (blasters do... force dmg, or fire, or physical force, or...)? So two books... Hrrm. Since I do not plan on using the champions universe (I've got my own in mind), is there a sample for the format used or an example of someone's own world info? I'm not looking to use someone elses info, but rather I want to have a foundation/floorplan for mine. Does anyone have an example file I could take a look at? Suggestions for things I should cover before starting my game? Again, I don't need a copy of your world, just an idea of things I need to cover. I've got a fair idea, but it has been so long I'm sure I am missing some important concepts. As to the books - thank you for the information, all I have to do now is scrape up the funds. Thank you for your feedback, it gives me something to work with! Oh - a thought! Does anyone have their world on a web site I could peruse?
  24. Re: Setting the range of powers Yansuf - Almost everything I asked was campaign specific. I'm trying to avoid re-inventing the wheel. I was looking to see if anyone had broken down their world in a similar way to what I was looking for. Even if I do not share the same beliefs/want the same flavor, it would still be invaluable to see how others have done it. For instance, the range for blasters (and what type of energy they are) doesn't need to match others games. But the logic & range they give them would still be useful. For example, perhaps I didn't break it down the best way, perhaps budget would be a more accurate method. A 15d6 blaster is possible, but it costs over 2 million and leaks radiation, killing the user within a year. Perhaps energy types I haven't thought of, or rather then worrying about total points, I should instead focus on DC limits. Beazulbob
  25. Re: Setting the range of powers Wow - crickets! Ok, I guess I've missed the pulse with my query. Well, further questions: Has anyone compiled a list of energy types? Has anyone got a guideline to how many heroes in a city of X size on average? Has anyone got a mechanic for determining the average total points of folks? Has anyone figured out the dispersal range for magic, science, mutation, etc origins? I ask because: You can attach all kinds of descriptions for EB, but for purpose of vulnerabilites and extra defenses, it would be kind of nice to know. In preperation for a game, I'm thinking I should have a rough idea of how many heroes are activ6e in a city, state, and country. The rough power range curve (there is a guy with 1000 pts in the world, but the next highest is no more then 650. The average hero is 200-300 point range. The equivelent of the avengers averages 300-400. Etc. How common are aliens & their artifacts on the world (& what impact it has on developing technology)? Are you using mutants, and if so, at what % of the population. What are the limits/range effects of psionics? As an additino - the % of heroes & there power level determines the common awareness of folks, how much reaction to their existance, and such. I'm not looking for someones specific list, just an idea of what people have organized & concepts they have come up with. Basically a champions power-bible. Anyone out there besides the darn crickets (written on -20 points). Beazulbob
