  1. Re: The things I've learned playing a munchkin

Use a DM shield as a player. If the others can't see your dice, it dosen't matter how bad your character is

[Not me, I knew someone who actually did this. Sigh]

Speaking of cheating... If you're going to cheat, it's helpful to start by pretending to botch a relatively unimportant roll; your subsequent "luck" will be more believable if you don't appear to be "lucky" all the time. :sneaky:
  2. The tables in Villainy Amok often make note of a "benchmark character."

How do I best decide who the benchmark character is - e.g., should I generally use the PC whose powers are the most similar to the intended villain's?

  3. Re: Challenge: "Pope" as a Package Deal

Heh. Nice' date=' except that I'm not so sure he [i']detects[/i] such an answer
Yeah. I liked the idea so I built it this way, is all. :)

I think it is more that it is true by virtue of him having said it. Maybe a MegaScaled, Area of Effect Mind Control that only works against those of Catholic and related faiths (-1/2, 'cause there are certainly plenty of 'em)?
My idea would be a bit much, but I'm particular to: MegaScale AoE Transform (texts and memories about Catholic doctrine into updated versions). This one probably wouldn't be Limited to Catholics, though it can be.
  4. Re: Challenge: "Pope" as a Package Deal

I think we are missing a few of his biggest bennies: His Pope-related Superpowers!

Papel Infallibility - The Pope CANNOT be wrong on matters of official doctrine. He declares something is religiously correct, and it is. Or, depending on how you look at it, any decision he makes on matters of faith will be nudged by God to be correct.

Seeing as Hero doesn't do absolutes well, this could get expensive.

For the pope as arbiter of divine will:

Papal Infallibility: Detect Correct Answer To Questions About Catholic Doctrine at +5 to PER Roll, Discriminatory, Analyze.

Assuming an Int 13-15 pope, that gives him an 18- PER Roll, though for perfect infallibility, using the "Absolute Effect" rule from Fantasy HERO is advisable.

  5. Re: Stat Inflation

Like STR isn't already too cheap...
You said you increased the cost of STR in your campaign, so it shouldn't be too cheap for you any more...?

If someone else doesn't do that even though STR is too cheap for them, well yeah - of course that's a problem with STR, rather than with applying Limitations to it.

  6. Re: Stat Inflation

    Storn.

I like the STR Min on weapons. They represent the fact that you have to have a certain level of physical ability to weild a weapon WELL. It isn't saying that the average guy (STR 10) can't wield a great sword, but it is saying that avererage guy can't weild a great sword WELL.

You do know that if you use two hands to weild a one handed weapon the STR MIN is reduced right?

You are correct the average merc doen't have an 18 STR. So how come they can wield the sword so good? Combat Manuevers and Combat Skill Levels.

Also an option for such characters: +STR; Only To Meet Min STR Of [swords or whatever].
  7. Let's say I have something like:

Major Transform (living creatures into [whatever]), Area of Effect (e.g., Radius or 1 Hex with MegaScale).

How do I build this power to enable it to affect creatures in several buildings at once (or in several rooms/floors of the same building separated by walls/doors)?

There's Indirect but if I read it correctly, it just changes where the power comes from, meaning it can hit targets inside one building but not in several buildings at once (assuming there are walls/closed doors between them).

I think adding Autofire is an option, but IMO that'd get a bit complicated for bigger powers.

I also looked at Penetrating, but it seems it wouldn't help here... At least, I think so.

So how do I Transform the inhabitants of a small town (or whatever), apart from making them go outside first? ;)

I'm not that experienced in using HERO, so it's possible I'm missing something but in any case, I'm not sure how to go about this. Any help would be very cool. :)

  8. Re: Character for Review - Avatar

"Ãœbergabe oder' date=' stirbt Ihre Wahl" (“Surrender or die, your choiceâ€)[/quote'] How about: "Ergib Dich oder stirb - Deine Entscheidung."

Just my 2 (Euro-) cents - YMMV, of course. :) Though in any case, "Ãœbergabe" can mean "surrender" mostly for certain military purposes, referring to the surrender of installations, settlements and such. It's also difficult to construct the sentence with it in German. Instead of it, I would use: "gib auf," "ergib Dich," or some such.

    (I'm Austrian, BTW.)

  9. Re: Drizzt & Artemis Entreri

All I can say is' date=' my character Drizz'tminster will blow this guy away...[/quote'] A D&D character of a slightly lower power level than his isn't too unlikely to do just that, IMO. Especially if he has player character equipment.
  10. Re: YOU KNOW THE d20 WELL HAS RUN DRY WHEN...

"bare female nipples"? There goes the 1st edition MONSTER MANUAL' date=' and DETIES AND DEMIGODS. Oh, an some other AD&D modules who's exact names escape me.[/quote']And much more recently, the 3.5 Monster Manual (dryad) and IIRC something in d20 Past. Probably the siren.

For the curious, both books have art galleries containing all their pictures on the WotC site.

Not that WotC themselves are bound by this, AFAIK.

  11. Re: YOU KNOW THE d20 WELL HAS RUN DRY WHEN...

Who else here thinks this would actually be a big seller? ;)
Heh. Do a Google search for "Book of Erotic Fantasy." ;) (Not completely work-safe, I suppose, BTW.) And yes, I believe at least one of the people responsible is a former WotC employee.

Note: I haven't read it, so I can't comment on content, but it sure seems to spark off a lot of near-flame wars when it's discussed on the interent.

  12. Re: YOU KNOW THE d20 WELL HAS RUN DRY WHEN...

    2. WotC lays off an employee and for the first time that individual DOESN'T turn around and start up a d20 publishing company of his own and compete. The d20 community is shaken to its core as to the implications.
These days, they might well join up with existing d20 companies instead of founding their own. The companies they'd join likely have been started by other former WotC employees, mind. ;)
  13. Re: Higher-point-level Fantasy

The major FEEL difference between Fantasy Hero at high level and D&D at high level is hit points. A high level D&D character might very well have 100 hit points (in Hero a normal human has like 8-10 body' date=' in D&D a normal human has like 4-5 hit points), if you directly converted THAT aspect of the game you would end up with characters with 200 body.[/quote'] Right, I'd convert large hp amounts by giving the character Combat Luck and similar powers as well as a lot of Body.

Well, unless they're primarily based on something like race (e.g., tyrannosaurus).

  14. Re: Video Games

It just occurred to me that technically someone should be able to remove the mushroom or the fire flower with the write-up I have now. It's a bad simulation because you eat the mushroom once and the effect is permanent in the game. I'm not sure how you make a focus non-removable' date=' maybe an Always On limitation.[/quote'] Expendable Focus or maybe Charges.
