  1. Here are two questions we were not entirely sure about. All questions are for Heroic Campaigns. 1) Is it possible to counteract a ½ DCV penalty (i.e. from shooting a bow) with Penalty Skill Levels? 2) When you use the Killing Strike Martial Maneuver with, say, 15 STR (and maybe even an Extra DC for Martial Arts), can you use all the Damage Classes together (i.e. total of 5 DC with STR and 6 DC with the Extra DC); or is damage limited to twice the base HKA (as with "real weapons"). Ok, now obviously, the maneuver isn't a "real weapon", so the limit should not apply here, but OTOH it seems a little strange, that your damage suddenly drops low, if you pick up a dagger (assuming, i.e., you have the maneuver learned with Unarmed and a Weapon Element)!? What are your thoughts on this? Also, what do you think about the following House Rule about that damage limit (twice base damage) for "real weapons"? House Rule - Instead of max. twice the base damage, the max. damage is base damage +4 DCs. It makes the smaller weapons a bit more useful overall, and the big ones a bit less drastic. Bye Thanee
  2. Re: Changing the roll low to hit and skill check to a roll high to hit and skill chec I see, I see. Bye Thanee
  3. Re: Changing the roll low to hit and skill check to a roll high to hit and skill chec @neaceul: Instead of remaking the table, you could simply have used mine... Bye Thanee
  4. Re: Fantasy Hero - Talents - Storm of Steel (for up to HKA 4d6)
  5. Re: Fantasy Hero - Talents - Storm of Steel (for up to HKA 4d6) Agreed. Bye Thanee

  7. Re: Changing the roll low to hit and skill check to a roll high to hit and skill chec
  8. Re: Fantasy Hero - Talents - Storm of Steel (for up to HKA 4d6) Aha, ok. Too bad (but probably fair enough). Bye Thanee
  9. Re: Fantasy Hero - Talents - Storm of Steel (for up to HKA 4d6) It took me a while to figure out, what Storm of Steel actually is, when I first read it (a while ago)... it doesn't exactly say that it is a "Naked Advantage", but it could be deduced from the cost and the description. It is simply a Naked Autofire (5) for up to 4d6 of HKA with OIF and Requires Skill Roll. I see, so with a +1/2 Naked Advantage, you gain extra DCs from other sources at a 2:3 ratio. Makes sense. EDIT: Ah, yes. Found the table in 6E2. I suppose this also applies to using regular weapons "out of the box", because they are built with the Reduced Endurance +1/2 Advantage, then, right? And it also means, that a 2d6 HKA Axe, for example, already applies as a 3d6 HKA (or 45 Active Points in total) against the limit of the Naked Advantage (which is 4d6 or 60 Active Points total for Storm of Steel). So, even if there was a 4d6 HKA weapon, you couldn't use it with Storm of Steel, because it would be more than 60 in Active Points. That "STR used this turn" part gets me thinking... do you only pay ONCE per turn (or rather phase) to use your Strength? i.e. if I use a weapon (equipment) with 2d6 HKA, 0 END cost and a 15 STR Min, so I have to use my 15 Strength (3 END as it is a heroic campaign)... and if I then use Storm of Steel (making 3 Autofire Attacks), do I only pay 3 END for my Strength (once) and the 3 for Storm of Steel (once)? So 6 END total? That is, assuming for now, the weapon does not cost any END to use even with Storm of Steel (the potential problem you listed above). Or do I have to pay for my Strength for each attack (and therefore 12 END total)? EDIT: Just looked into the Endurance rules, and it does say "per phase", so the 6 END seems to be correct. That makes this Talent a lot more useful than I thought (because END is much less of a limitation). I don't think that will come into play. That makes sense, considering, Reduced Endurance is twice as expensive, normally, when combined with Autofire. So here it is only half as effective. Bye Thanee
  10. Re: Fantasy Hero - Talents - Storm of Steel (for up to HKA 4d6) And another, related question... Storm of Steel has an Endurance cost. The Attack used with it has an Endurance cost (i.e. for the applied Strength). When I attack using this Talent, do I pay the Endurance for Storm of Steel (once) plus the Endurance for the Attack I use (multiplied by the number of Autofire Attacks I want to make)? Is that the right way? Bye Thanee
  11. I have a question regarding the Storm of Steel Talent from Fantasy Hero (or "Naked Advantages" in general). Is the limit here only the HKA itself? i.e. if I actually have a HKA 4d6 power, can I use this and still gain the benefits from... - Strength - Combat Levels - Maneuvers - Extra Damage Classes (Martial Arts) - Talents (i.e. Weapon Master) ? Bye Thanee
  12. Re: OIF "Weapon of Opportunity" Ok, so I was pretty much on the right track there... thanks! Bye Thanee
  13. Some of the Talents in Fantasy Hero (i.e. Rapid Archery, Storm of Steel) have the OIF "Weapon of Opportunity" limitation. While I understand what it means, I do wonder, why is this an OIF and not an OAF? Isn't the weapon you just happen to use with the Talent still accessible, disarmable, and so on? I can see, that it shouldn't really get the full -1, mostly because it is "easily replaced" with just about any other weapon of the type, but nonetheless... why not an OAF? Any ideas? Bye Thanee
  14. Many spells in the HERO System Grimoire have the Spell (-1/2) Limitation. What is it? Where can I find a description of this Limitation? Bye Thanee
  15. Re: Some rules questions about Fantasy HERO Talents and Combat Maneuvers Of course, it's a question whether you want to play Lord of the Rings or Diablo. Anyways, anyone got some input on the first question (does it "stack" with Combat Maneuvers or not)? Bye Thanee
  16. Re: Some rules questions about Fantasy HERO Talents and Combat Maneuvers There is still Nonselective then, which does not allow you to pick targets (but does require actual attack rolls). Bye Thanee
  17. Hi! We had some questions about how the Fantasy HERO Talents are supposed to work today. Speaking of Rapid Archery, Storm of Steel, Whirlwind Attack, and so on. Can you use Combat Maneuvers (i.e. Martial Strike) as normal in combination with such special attacks? Also, Whirlwind Attack seems pretty weird, since it completely ignores the targets' DCV. Shouldn't it have the Nonselective or Selective Option for the Area Advantage? Bye Thanee
  18. Re: Fantasy Hero 6E - initial impressions Since I basically skipped 5th edition completely, it's perfect for me! Yay! I will wait a few months until the grimoire is out as well, though, so I can make one big order. Bye Thanee
  19. Re: Fantasy Hero 6E - initial impressions A quick question for those who have the book already... Are there a decent amount of spells in there already, or do I have to wait for the Grimoire coming out later this year for those? Thanks! Bye Thanee
  20. Re: Sources for Ranged Combat Maneuvers (Bows and such) Great! One more reason to get that book, then. Thanks! Bye Thanee
  21. I recently bought the Valdorian Age 5E sourcebook and I like the write-up in the sorcery section, but would like to have more pre-built spells at the ready. (Yes, I know you can build them yourself, but that's not the point.) Are there any books or other sources, that expand on the small selection? Something more along the lines of what Fantasy Hero has available would be sweet. Does the Fantasy Hero Grimoire 5E also cover the campaign specific magic types? Any ideas? Bye Thanee
  22. I have recently bought the Valdorian Age 5E sourcebook and noticed some ranged combat maneuvers in there to use with bows. Now I'm wondering, since I havn't encountered such before, where in the 6E sources I might find more info about those. Does the new Hero System Martial Arts cover this? Any hints appreciated! Bye Thanee
  23. Re: Common 6E House Rules LOL Ok, ok. Bye Thanee
  24. Re: Common 6E House Rules As for raising the cost for PRE and INT (instead of lowering DEX)... esp. INT really doesn't seem like it is worth as much as the other two, or is it? At 2pts per +1, I feel INT would definitely be overpriced even more than DEX. You would probably have to do quite a bit of redesign of anything affected by these characteristics (basically like Hugh Neilson suggests above). Also, are these three really more useful than STR, for example? Or CON? It's a bit hard to compare skill bonuses to combat bonuses, but those two are rather big, too, especially in fantasy campaigns. I think I (we actually ) will rather go with as small a list of house rules as possible, only addressing the major issues with fixes that put them roughly in line. Perfect balance is hardly achievable, but if it gets closer to that point with little effort, that's a good thing, IMHO. So, most likely... DEX +1:1pt and Agility levels at 4pts. That appears to be the smallest change that has the best effect to me. Leaving things as they are would surely also be an option, but if these issues have already come up during character generation (and they did), I feel that making a change here right away, that everyone involved is comfortable with, is the right way. As a side note, we do have extensive experience with the HERO System (just no practical experience yet with the new edition). Bye Thanee
