  1. Re: Common 6E House Rules Any specific reason for this? I actually like the fact, that there is no general appearance characteristic, but other ways to model appearance (i.e. Striking Appearance as a replacement for COM and Distinctive Features, of course). Bye Thanee
  2. Re: Common 6E House Rules Even though it is for 5th edition (not that big a difference, I know ), I am definitely going to buy that book (it is already on the shopping list ). Bye Thanee
  3. Re: Common 6E House Rules So, would it be better IYO to drop the Agility Skill Levels to 4pts, too, then? Assuming the DEX cost drop is a given... Bye Thanee
  4. Re: Common 6E House Rules Well, maybe I should also mention, that we will play with the Characteristics Maxima, so this might be true up to DEX 18, but beyond that it quickly turns around. And as you say, even the other Skill Levels aren't really a good competition against buying the Characteristics up. I can live with that. The Skill Levels still have a place, they just won't be super common. Bye Thanee
  5. Hiyas! So... we are finally getting our HERO 6E Sword & Sorcery style campaign rolling, and I'm interested in hearing about common house rules used with the new rules set. One thing I have often seen here and which we will adopt is changing the cost for DEX to 1pt per +1 (not 2pts per +1), and likewise with Lightning Reflexes (double bonus for the same cost). We will keep the 6pts for Agility Skill Levels, though. We will also have Everyman Skill Familiarities count towards learning the skill later (just because it makes sense). The melee weapons table will be reworked and closer to the one found in 3rd/4th edition. Anything else you find noteworthy or worthy of consideration? Bye Thanee
  6. Re: FH 6E 175pt Characters Another great collection. Thanks for posting! Bye Thanee
  7. Re: Turakian and Valdorian Age in 6E? Thanks! That's pretty much what I thought (they do sound more "fluffy" than "crunchy" ). Bye Thanee
  8. Hiyas! The setting books for FH 5E, namely The Turakian Age and The Valdorian Age look interesting, but how useful will they be, when I never play 5E but only 6E (have played 3E/4E before)? Would it make more sense to wait for them to get reprinted for 6E or is the material presented in a way, that the underlying rules are less of an issue? Bye Thanee
  9. Re: FH 6E 175pt Characters That's quite a collection there. Bye Thanee
  10. Re: FH 6E 175pt Characters I have seen a "spell book" entry under NPCs. Bye Thanee
  11. Re: Free Mapping Software? I doubt you will find a free software with the power (or even nearly so) of Campaign Cartagropher (and similar products). What kind of maps do you want to make? Campaign (i.e. world) maps? City maps? Location (i.e. smaller more specific areas) maps? Encounter maps (to use with miniatures)? Bye Thanee
  12. Re: FH 6E 175pt Characters Thanks, I will. And my thanks to Beast as well, of course. Bye Thanee
  13. Re: FH 6E 175pt Characters Hmm... I actually tried that on the linked site, but to no avail... so I figured you meant the links posted here. Lemme see again... ok, now it works. Thanks! Bye Thanee
  14. Re: (Equipment) Axe vs. Sword I had thought about adding a DCV column to equipment, to also figure in defensive qualities, but I'm not sure if that is a good idea, yet. As for the lower OCV, that's what I did with my axe/sword writeup on page 1. Bye Thanee
  15. Re: FH 6E 175pt Characters Thanks, but I don't have HD. Those are also in HD data files only, right? At least I couldn't find anything else there... Bye Thanee
  16. Are there any threads here, where people posted their characters? Havn't seen any, yet. I would be interested in seeing some of the standard heroic fantasy kind, that people came up with. Bye Thanee
  17. Re: New books for 6th Edition The Like-To-Haves: Bye Thanee
  18. Re: New books for 6th Edition Oh, nice. FH will be hardcover this time? :) Bye Thanee
  19. Re: (Equipment) Axe vs. Sword Yep, that's what I meant above. One (really minor) thing I am wondering, though, as I read this... isn't the dagger-wielder actually MORE effective then, because of concealability/carrying advantages (which might not really come into play, so effectively are negated, but in theory)? Bye Thanee
  20. Re: Impact of Figured Characteristics Yep. It still has some rough edges and some things I simply do not agree with, but opinions are widespread and you cannot make it right for everyone. At least, HERO offers all the tools to make the game into what you want. Yep. On my reading through 6E, I also noticed some lack of guidance in these matters. There's the optional characteristic maxima table for heroic campaigns, and the characteristic guidelines for power level, but something like the old figured characteristics would also be a useful guideline for new players, I think. Bye Thanee
  21. Re: (Equipment) Axe vs. Sword Thanks for taking the time to explain your system more properly and let me apologize (again) for my earlier (incorrect) statement. Bye Thanee
  22. Re: (Equipment) Axe vs. Sword Yeah, I'm aware of that (6E doesn't even have the doubling after 20 without using optional rules). That's what I meant with the "usually". You CAN get beyond 20, but it is not within the normal range. 21+ is above the "Normal Maximum". Ok, granted, "superhuman" is a bit of a misleading term here. My bad. Yep, but the weapons are designed with humans in mind. Other races might have special racial weapon variants. Or simply other characteristic "maxima". It's the break-point where you use the weapon effectively... the way it is designed to be used. It sets the baseline for the weapon. Why should anyone design a weapon, that is not a unique weapon for a unique person, which can only be used effectively (i.e. without penalty) by <1% of the population? That makes no sense to me. Ok, now I'm a bit confused. Your "longsword" is not meant to be a longsword but some kind of extra-heavy longsword? I do not think they are. You can use a weapon too heavy for you to wield effectively. But you wouldn't do so normally. The STR Min also gives information about the commoness of a weapon. A common weapon with STR Min 10 will be used a lot, while a common weapon with STR Min 18 or even 23 will be used only be select few individuals, who happen to be that strong. I never played 5E. In 3E/4E the weapons were quite reasonable compared to each other, I think. Not perfect, surely, but alright. The 6E (and 5E apparantly) weapons have been a step back from there, which was the reason for me to open this thread. And just for the record... I definitely like the discussion here, since it offers some new and different perspectives. So far, I havn't seen anything that would convince me to move away from the (slightly altered) official system, though. Bye Thanee
