  1. I noticed in Hero Designer that Martial Arts didn't have a button for any modifiers. Can martial arts have any limitation or advantage placed on them? Thanks, Brian

    Monk

I have a player that is playing a monk-like character. He uses martial arts, open hand and he doesn't wear armor. He would like to have more benefits for his character. Since we are playing fantasy other players don't have to pay points for their armor or for their swords. 1. What are the benefits for not using a weapon or armor in fantasy? 2. I am looking at adding a limiation to some of his abilities - only while not wearing armor or open fisted. How much is that worth? What abilities would you allow them to apply that to? Do you have any other ideas to help make the monk-like character cool? Thanks, Brian
  3. Re: Immune to Magic Thanks for all the suggestions. I do apologize for saying Immune. I am looking more for dampen and not complete immunity. Lots of good things I will have to add to his character. Thanks, Brian
  4. I have a character that has a unique ability in that he can dampen and effect Magic around him. He naturally does it. I am curious how others would demonstrate this. I have given him several abilities. Power Defense, Mental Defense, Armor and Flash Defense (only versus magical attacks), + to presense to resist magical presense attacks. I am also thinking of a suppress always on? Basically I don't want him to have think or react to an attack. His natural defense protect him. Any thoughts? Brian
  5. Here is the effect I am looking for, what powers should I buy? These are being done with wind. If you could add in any actions to do them as well I would appreciate that (for example grab/throw). I want to use to lift a friend or foe and put them up on top of a building (like Storm). I want to "fly" my friends around. I control it. I want to lift someone up and hold them in the air. I want to pick someone up and carry them very high into the air and drop them. Thanks, Brian
  6. I am a little confused by Usable as an Attack with Flight. On Page 277 under Dangers of Usable on Others, you say "For Example, Flight Usable As Attack is of duibious legality, since Telekinesis is the appropriate and legal way to achieve the same effect in most circumstances." Yet, under Usable as Attack you give the example of Flight Usable as an Attack. Can you help me know when TK is fine and when they should have Flight Usable as an Attack? The character has TK based on air control. They have bought flight. They now want to lift others into the air. Is that TK or Flight as an Attack? I think of Storm as a good example of this. In X-Men she lifted Wolverine up to Rogue. Was that TK or flight usable as an attack? Thanks, Brian
  7. Re: Long Range Archery Just to clarify... PersonMan fires a bow at a mannequin with no movement and a dcv of 3 at a range of 100", SomeGuy fires a bow at someone with a dcv of 3 at a range of 100", but that person can move. Since the arrow takes time to get to the person, can that person move out of the arrow's path? Another example... someone stands in front of a target. The target is dcv 3 and the person is dcv 3. The arrow fires, the person sees it fire. Can the person move out of the way as the arrow travels? Another example... someone is riding a horse at a castle. He sees an archer on the rampart that fires a single arrow. The person reigns in the horse just in case the archer lead the rider perfectly. I hope these examples clarify my question. Thanks in advance for any help.
  8. I was just wondering if there was any special rules in one of the books about Long Range Archery or has anyone come up with rules? I have a player that feels there should be some special rules. Since if you shoot a long distance with the bow, the arrow does stay in the air for a decent amount of time. So if I shoot an arrow at a bad guy that is about 100" away. He can see me shoot see the arrow go up and have time to sprint x amount of inches to the right or left. Basically totally get out of the hex that I would be aiming at. Instead of abort to dodge, can they abort to dive for cover? Thanks, Brian
  9. Re: water - ice - gas I understand that. If they are going to do any of that stuff, they will have to buy the appropriate power. Here is an example of what I am talking about. There is a small pond. It is frozen over. I would like the character to be able to change the ice to water so the pond is no longer frozen. Or if they come across an unfrozen pond, I would like them to be able to freeze the pond over. Also, they could evaporate the water in the pond. If they want to effect anything like entangle or other stuff, then they will buy that power. Right now, I am just working on the pond. Thanks, Brian
  10. Re: water - ice - gas Nice, but probably not that much control. I am torn, cause I would like it to be able to effect larger area, but it can't "create" ice, unless there is a pool of water there. I was originally thinking transform, but now I am leaning towards change environment with temperature change...maybe only effects water, not sure what limitation that would be... Thanks for any help, Brian
  11. I have a character that I would like to be able to change water to ice and back and water to gas and back. Can this be done with one power? How should it be set up? I was thinking change environment or maybe transform. Brian
  12. In the back of Monsters, Minions, and Marauders there is a section for Human Adversaries. They say the are generic character sheets representing "typical" human NPCs and enemies. Now my question is are these what is the average out there? I ask this because most of them are 75+ points and some are over a 100 points. So basically if I have a city and it has City Guard and the players encounter a basic patrol. I can use this template for the guards? The main reason this comes up is that I have a player that insists that most people out there do not have higher than an 8- in a skill. Maybe someone in a large city might have an 11- and then the best in a kingdom would have maybe a 14-. The characters in the back of the book have 14- in skills and that gives me a good start to convince him that his skill rolls are too low. Just looking for some opinions. Thanks, Brian
  13. For 4 pts you can take a HTH Damage Class. From my understanding you can apply one to increase your Non Killing by one damage class and it takes two to increase your killing by one damage class. One of my players would like some clarification on this or perhaps a rationalization. Why is there difference between killing and non killing. For example in both powers that deal killing or non killing one damage class costs 5pts. Also, when using combat skills it takes two combat skill levels to increase both killing and non killing. Am I wrong in this? If not, is there reasoning that I am missing? Thanks, Brian
  14. I had a question concerning martial arts, particulary Offensive Strike. It is supposed to add +4DC. Now, if you buy your martial arts to be used with a sword does that mean it gets +4DC killing damage? I noticed that when you buy martial maneuvers that there is a difference in the price between extra killing damage and extra normal damage. It strikes me as odd that I have to pay extra points to get killing damage with a martial maneuver but if I pick up a sword then my cheap normal damage becomes killing? Thanks, Brian
  15. Re: Garotte and Bola Well as far as the Garotte was concerned I was looking for more of a clarification of the rules. Since the Garotte is talked about in the Ultimate Martial Artist. From the rules discussed in there this is how I think it works. You must first make a grab attack. Now for this do you have to do the called shot to the head or can you just name two limbs that you grab? Then you have to spend another action doing a called shot to the head with the garrote. They are at half dcv, but you are at -3 ocv and another -8 for doing a called shot to the head, is this correct? Once you make the attack with the garrote are they still considered grabbed? The garrote is a two handed weapon, so this also doesn't make much sense to me. Also, once successful with the attack can you just do damage on each of your turns? Since Steve discusses the Garotte in the Ultimate Martial Artist on page 177 and give stats for it, I was hoping he had a good idea of how he wanted it to work. As far as the Bola is concerned, I am just curious if anyone has any stats that they are using for it. I am using it in a fantasy campaign. Thanks for the help, Brian
