    He wears a kewl black & silver bodysuit, gets his powers from radiation/toxic waste/is bitten by a radioactive wombat while struck by lightning, and his powers are something SUPER L33T! Like he shoots knives out of his hands and heals when people cut him up! Yeah baby! His code of morality could be something awesome like "kill em first... I'm the best there is at what I do!" And we'd need him to fight a giant mechanical spider right off the bat, 'cuz spiders are the most savage killers in the $%@@ animal kingdom!

     

    Radioactive Wombat bite is the ONLY way to get great super powers.

    Now this is where I was headed with my suggestion, only I would have each new "body" have a new power set. Maybe tack on an ancient curse/prophecy that the only way he can end the cycle is to die an "infinite" number of times or kill an "infinite" number of people (one or the other).

     

    Just imagine a villain who tries to get killed by the heroes so that he can tack another one onto his death count to infinity. Really messes with the whole "Code vs. Killing" when the villain is TRYING to get you to kill him.

    That's what I get when I combine reading my new JSA TP (Stealing Thunder) starring the Ultra Humanite (coolest name EVER!!!) with seeing the words "Random Character Generator." Maybe I need to get out more.

    Have a different randomly generated powerset each time the players run into him on a new adventure. Literally an "infinite" number of combinations to challenge them. The only thing that remains the same is the mind and personality of the villain.

    I wouldn't mind it even if "HERO imitated D20" allegations showed up. It is a good mechanic. :)

     

    I believe it would be a good move. I think that the biggest benefit to the changes that DnD v3.0 brought to the table (for Dnd of course) was standardizing the "high is good" across the board. Does it change the odds of success? No. Does it make it easier to use? For me and many others, yes.

     

    I would go so far as to say that I would like to see all of the HERO rolls converted into a "higher is better" scheme. It would make it easier to teach to others (no more questions of "when is high good and when is it bad") and make the system more uniform. In addition, it would also make converting the masses of d20 fans easier :winkgrin:

  6. Speaking of combining TS and Supers, didnt Top Secret/SI have a couple of suplements dealing with Metahuman agents?

     

    No idea. The adventures that I have are out of an old Dragon Magazine from back when I was still collecting it (many moons ago). I am also thinking of converting an old Gamma World module (Legion of Gold) for use. I wish I could remember where I stashed my Traveller adventures. I had a couple of those that might work too.

  7. At this point I am leaning toward STAST. The campaign will be a "supers are new to the world" type and the players will be feeling their way into it as they are new to the genre and the system. They will be playing themselves as if they were granted superpowers.

     

    The tenative plan is to run the old Top Secret adventure "Wacko World" to kick us off, with the intro of VIPER running the show at the park. From there we would head to Antarctica to check on a research station that has gone silent, using the Top Secret adventure "Whiteout" as a base. This will introduce Mechanon into the campaign. Then I could use STAST to bring VIPER back into focus.

     

    At about this time the "Powers that Be" would begin outfitting agencies like UNTIL and PRIMUS to combat the growing super "menace" to society.

     

    Any other suggestions on how to work a new campaign for a GM that hasn't played Champions since 3rd edition?

  8. Deep in the Antarctic...

     

    On assignment at the Antarctic Research Center (ARC) Professor Maldonado was testing the latest in robotics equipment and software designed to replace humans as the primary explorers of the solar system. On the night that the Pixie Dust fell from the sky, the Earth's magnetic field was adversly affected in the polar regions. Most of the world noticed nothing...but in Dr. Maldonado's lab where he was working late, an something incredible happened. Electrical currents arced from computer to computer, from robot to robot, from computer and robot to Man.

     

    In an instant the professor was knocked unconscious...into a coma from which he has never recovered. All the while his subconscious mind, the part of him that truly believed that Man could be replaced by Machine, was transferred to the computers and robotics of his lab.

     

    The being known as Mechanon was born.

  9. The point behind this "history" was that it allows me to put each player in a situation that is basically "You, the player, have just been granted superpowers by this event...what are you going to do with them now?" A lot like your "lotto" theme.

     

    Just a bit of wish fulfillment there I guess...but hey, if it helps to get them involved then it is worth it.

     

    And the reoccuring villain in this whole thing will be...

     

    drumroll please...

     

    ...Mechanon...

     

    ...who is not really fully a robot, but rather the subconscious of a renowned robotics scientist that has been projected into a computer while his body lies in a coma. Mechanon "believes" he is a robot and that mechanoids are the perfect beings. All based off of the scientists subconscious belief in the superiority of robotics.

  10. And here it is...the background for my (as yet) unstarted campaign. I am just waiting for the Sidekick rules to come out so that I can indoctrinate a new group into the world of HEROdom:

     

    Brave New World

     

    All throughout the late 90’s, everyone was concerned about the “end of the worldâ€. People built shelters, hoarded food, and prepared for the worst. On New Years Eve, 1999, the world held its breath…and let out a sigh of relief as the clock passed by the turn of the century with a whimper instead of a bang. The moment had passed, and life began to return to normal as fears of “the End†were laughed away.

     

    What no one realized was that the countdown to the end of the world had begun.

     

    At that precise moment, a new object was seen in the heavens by the US Astronomical Agency. It was catalogued and mapped, and over the next few months it was tracked. By mid July, it had drawn attention to itself by the fact that, although it got brighter, there was no lateral movement to speak of. Larger telescopes were brought to bear, more sophisticated computer functions and analysis diverted to the problem, and by September the scientists had reached a conclusion.

     

    Dr. Martin van Buren, Special Counsel to the President of the United States, informed the President on September 15, 2000, that the new star was in fact an asteroid and that its trajectory indicated a 94.6% probability of impacting the earth sometime in the year 2005. Measurements taken showed that the asteroid was approximately the size of the State of Illinois. Conservative estimates figured that all life on the surface of the planet would be destroyed. The President asked for options.

     

    Thus the greatest arms race in the history of mankind was begun. Every country in the world that was capable of building nuclear weapons began converting 100% of their production capacity into generating the most powerful bombs ever created. These warheads were attached to missiles designed to hurl them into space on a trajectory that would intercept the asteroid and, hopefully, destroy it before it was close enough to the earth to wreak havoc.

     

    The pessimistic despaired. The optimistic remained hopeful. The realists prayed for a miracle.

     

    January 1, 2005 the missiles were launched. The sky lit with fire as volley after volley flew to the heavens. Mankind held its collective breath for 10 months. October 21, 2005 the missiles reached their target and there was a night without darkness. Millions of tons of explosives cracked and fractured the asteroid. The second volley broke up the pieces. The third reduced them even further. By the time that the fourth volley struck, most of the asteroid was reduced to small enough fragments that they would break up in the atmosphere.

     

    Mankind rejoiced.

     

    Christmas Eve, 2005, the darkness of the sky was broken by billions and billions of mini meteors. Dust and debris from the remains rained down upon the earth, creating a shower of falling stars. All who saw it felt their hearts swell within them as what was referred to as “pixie dust†lit up the night…a beautiful storybook ending to an awful tragedy narrowly averted.

     

    “Pixie dust†is what we called it. The magical dust that Tinkerbelle used to give children the power to fly away to Neverland. Little did we realize how appropriate that name would be.

     

    It was the end of the world as we knew it.

    I am in agreement with RDU Neil...plug-n-play is something that HERO needs. I would like a supplement that will help my "non HERO" friends to quickly jump in and play an introductory game without taking a lot of prep time on their characters. Not that they won't want to take the time later to create the "perfect" character, but getting them started is the tough part.
