  1. On page 226 of volume 1, there is a flash power example called Shrieker Alarm. It does not have the area affect advantage. Does that mean when the alarm goes off only one person will hear it? Same question for the stink bomb. I am trying to make a blinding light that will affect all people who see it and I am trying to figure out whether or not I need to buy AE. Apologies if this has been answered before, but these forums are very slow and my searches seem to always end with the site timing out. Nox
  2. Re: Staring into the sun I ended up going for images (light only) for the lighting of the sky, +DCV linked to images to reflect that it is hard to look directly at him. For now...that's all I can afford, pointwise. It will do. I eventually will try and link in a flash attack to make them PAY for looking upon my glorious self. Thanks a ton for the help.
  3. Re: Staring into the sun Some great ideas here guys, thanks very much. Yes, I would love to megascale the range, but honestly the amount of points that I have to play with won't allow it. What I wanted was to see what you guys felt would be the effect of staring into the sun and scale it appropriately. Right now I think I am going to go with the darkness idea, and hook in some +DCV to refelect that it's hard to aim at a brightly glowing target, also maybe linked to a change environment dark to light...
  4. Re: Staring into the sun Forget about the character or the effects that I want. I am not looking for specific effects. I am looking to duplicate what happens when you try and look directly at the sun. So what effects does that have? -PER, or it's a flash attack that takes away your perception for a time, it would also be very hard to aim at the target. So I could see -OCV and -PER for a time. And it should be passive enough so even if the "sun" does not see the target, it still affects the target if the target looks directly at the "sun". It also sheds light so it would offset darkness penalties for others etc...you know, like a walking sun.... For the specific effects I am not overly worried. It's the "passive" nature that is causing me issues. Darkness is a thought, but it has a finite range...if the "sun" is half a mile away, and you tried to stare at it, it should still blind you. But if you turn your back to it (or avert your gaze), you would be just fine (hence you are not in the "darkness" radius)... Maybe a 0 END AE Radius flash attack that is always on (for the blinding) linked to an change environment "Light" to illuminate the way? That is where I am currently leaning... (and thanks for moving the thread Steve...my bad)
  5. I am looking on how to do the following power: A character who glows as brightly as the sun, and therefore looking directly at him should be very hard. I have been thinking of flash attacks, damage shields...but really I can't think of how to do it so it is "passive" and happens when someone looks at him rather than when someone attacks him. Any thoughts? Nox
  6. Re: Works Well in the Source Material, not so Well in the Game The Mines of Moria When in a book or movie, the characters end up in some truly amazing and dangerous place, but they are just trying to make it through to get to their destination and so only see a small part of it. A group of gamers would have explored those caverns from top to bottom. Ensuring the tardiness of the Ring and therefore guaranteeing the destruction of middle earth...
  7. Hey Steve, Ok - so I have this power (this is an example - I don't actually have this power): "French Fry of Doom." It allows to take any french fry and use it to zap someone with hot oil. I buy it as: 6d EB special effect: hot oil Focus: any french fry So I can pick up any french fry and out pours hot oil. Now the focus limitation is as such: OAF: Any French Fry Durability: unbreakable Does this mean that any french fry I pick up and use as a focus is unbreakable? If it was: OAF: Any French Fry Durability: breakable Then the french fry would have a minimum DEF of 3? (The DEF would actually be 6 because a 6d EB is 30 active points/5 = 6 DEF). Now logically, that makes no sense but I can't find anything about it in the rules. We've houseruled it to be the same as a regular french fry (so basically "fragile" even if it was bought "unbreakable"). Basically, if you choose a single french fry as your focus (Ie. "The Magic French Fry of Ronald" is my focus) then it can be unbreakable. If it's "any french fry" then it's just a normal fry (and should probably be fragile) regardless of what the focus limitation says. This makes sense to me on some level, but strictly according to the focus rules, it would seem that if I made the focus "unbreakable" then any french fry I pick up to use as a focus would then be unbreakable. Is there anything in the rules that I am simply missing? Is any french fry used as a focus considered unbreakable if it's a focus and bought as unbreakable? If I then drop the french fry to the ground, it now becomes breakable? I realize I can make it fragile, but what if instead of a french fry I used a sword? (IE. "with any sword in my hand, I can launch a 6d fireball" instead of "this sword launches fireballs" - is the sword unbreakable even if it's "any sword"?). Or how about "any image of a sword" - so it could be an image on paper (fragile?) , or an image carved into diamond (unbreakable?)... I am fairly certain that the GM should force the player to buy "fragile" if he chose the "any french fry" focus, and that's that. But my GM currently says that even if the focus is bought as unbreakable, if it's defined as "any french fry" then it is just a normal fry, regardless that the focus is "unbreakable". Thanks in advance. Nox
