  1. Long story short, an element of the plot in a 5th Edition Game required the following Question ... "So, who actually posed for UN-CAPED; seriously, I know some heroes and villains have been in their, but who in the Hero-verse actually did this?" so -- yah, this actually was kind of important - and it was decided that I would answer it next game - there are A LOT of heroes and villains in both the the 5th and 6th ed Heroes & Villains books out there, and I have NO idea who would be willing to be in this mag. SO - I am asking all you other Hero Fans (Steve, I am looking at you - btw, it's the fellow with the Blue Cane you met at Jen's Fantasy Hero Game; HI!); who on earth posed for Un-Caped? Your Thoughts?
  2. I am sure this question has been asked but, is it possible for a speed past 12, and if so, do you start dubbling up in the 'how many phases you go on' table (ie - speed 13 goes on all 12 phases, and twice on 12, 14: all 12 and twice on 6 and 12, etc.) one of my players asked.
  3. In me and Athena's (formally referred to as Sparkstealer in previous post) Champions (and Teen Champions) game. We actually consider a bit of realism when it comes to PCs appearances. When they make the character, we ask them to describe them in as much detail as possible then using models and other resources, Athena (a talented artist) recreates the head shots and we decide what the COM score should be based on that (I do the same for other stats. for example, I do not ask that the DEX score is, rather I ask a few questions to see what sort of actions and skills relating to DEX the PC can perform; can the character walk on a 3 inch beam, etc.). The Big Black Book has a nice guide (i.e. examples) of what various scores mean (CON 15 being compared to a wolf for example); however, it stops at 20+ So my question (finally), what precisely is a 26 COM (I am having trouble visualize it)? Reason I ask is because of an NPC Athena created. She pointed out that human max is actually 30 (though it dose cost more to go above 20 for those with the Human Maxima trait) and that 26 was possible. I can not argue with that, but if 20 is Helen of troy, what is a 26? I guess I am wondering if you have a chart hading in your office some place. Thanks in advance, Mir~~ PS: Got Ultimate Skill, Thanks for your advice on Maltese a few months back. It has indeed proved to be very helpful
  4. Me again, this time with a temporal question. I have a character who has the ability (with a single charge) to pause and then rewind a short time (maybe 5-10 seconds) over a megahex area. The effects of this are plainly visible only to those inside the area (18m diamater); to those outside, the first sequence of events never happened. I've thought of several possible ways to do this - Transformation, Change Environment, Interdimensional Travel - but none seems to fit very well, and combos just seem unwieldy. So, how would you suggest combining an area effect with a time alteration effect, I am at a loss. Mir~ P.S. Thanks for the Maltese advice, saved my butt with that one ... you just sold me your upcoming Skill book
  5. Re: Maltese language I got the following answer - and I like Looks like I was not too far off -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Re: Maltese language Fortunately for you, I have a greatly expanded Language Familiarity Table that will appear in The Ultimate Skill right here with me. It has three points of similiarity with the various forms of Arabic, and 1 point of similarity with all the other languages in the Hamito-Semitic (or Afro-Asiatic) Family. Based on a quick few minutes of research it might have 2 points of familiarity with Sicilian, but since the Expanded LFT doesn't happen to include Sicilian that's not shown on it. I'm glad you posted this question. It's always fun to learn something new about a subject that interests you. __________________ Steve Long HERO System Line Developer
  6. The following was placed in the Hero-Rules discussion for Steve Long to answer; however, I am now curious what some of you may think - so I reposted here as well. Enjoy. Me and Sparkstealer (who will sign up onto the forum one of these days) run a game (a couple of games realy) here in Greensboro, and ocationally, some odd rules questions come up - here is the latest: Maltese - we have a charater who has it as a native laguage; however, we are not sure how to define it as far as familuarity goes. Here is a basic Description: Maltese is a Semitic language of the Afro-Asiatic language family. It is derived from, and most closely related to, Arabic. Maltese also shares similarities with other North African Arabic dialects; however the language has adopted many loanwords, and even phonetic and phonological features, from Southern Italian, Sicilian, and English. It is about 60% Arabic, 40% Romance. Laguage Tree is as follows: Afro-Asiatic (Large Group Like Indo-Europian) -->Semitic ---->Central Semitic ------>South Central Semitic -------->Arabic ---------->Maltese So far I have surmised that Maltese be in a 4-point thin round-box with Arabic (like German and Yiddish; currently, Arabic shares 4-points with no other laguage), which would put it in the same 3-point Thick round-box as Arabic and Persian, and in the same 2-point thin box as Arabic and Hebrew. It would NOT be in the same 1-point Thick box as the rest of the Indo-Europian laguages, but WOULD be in the same Thick box as Arabic, Hebrew, Berber, and Hausa (all part of the Afro-Asiatic language group). What I am not sure is how to connect it to Sicilian. I would guess that Sicilian would be part of the 3-point Thick round-box as Italian, Sardinian, and Rumanian (Sicilian is as different from Italian as Sardinian - i.e., not a dialect of Italian as often belived). I thought prehaps that much as there is an astrix between Yidish and Hebrew (indicating a 4-point relation) there may be something simalar with Maltese and Sicilian. That was our best guess ... any thoughts Mr. Long? Mir'Kossia
