  1. Re: Traveller Hero: Traders of the Spinward Marches Ooo, it's already Wednesday again, and that means another session of Traveller Hero tonight! I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of trouble we find out in Singer's oort cloud. We might even get us a taste of ship-to-ship combat! (Of course, if we end up facing something like a Broadsword-class or a Zhodani Shivva-class, I'll be regretting these words... ) BTW, for those of you not yet in the know, I'm playing in Steve's game. My character is Captain Zak.

  3. Re: Ueknou-class Vargr Corsair Deckplans By the way, I'm embarrased... you guys are suggesting subsidized liners, while I got my wires crossed and looked up the subsidized merchant... doh! I'm looking over the liner deckplans right now, and I'll see what I can cook up.
  4. Re: Ueknou-class Vargr Corsair Deckplans Oops, my bad, looks like I do have the Stellar/Bastian deckplans! Well, just for kicks, I might draw up both the Stellar/Bastian and the Type R.
  5. Re: Ueknou-class Vargr Corsair Deckplans
  6. Following up on my version of the Beowulf Free Trader deckplans, I humbly present to you my version of the Ueknou-class Vargr Corsair deckplans. From here on out, I'm offering two versions of each set of plans: a 1.5m square grid version (for Classic Traveller) and a 2m hex grid version (for Traveller Hero). Unlike the Beowulf deckplans, the Ueknou deckplans don't have any external layouts yet because I don't have access to any Ueknou illustrations at the moment. As soon as I get my hands on one, I'll add the external layouts to the Ueknou PDFs and post an update here. In the meantime, enjoy the internal deckplans. Now, what ship should I tackle next?
  7. Re: Beowulf-class Type-A Free Trader Deckplans I've updated my Beowulf deckplans, and I've included links to the new PDFs both in the original post and in my sig. There's a 1.5m square grid version for Classic Traveller, and a 2m hex grid version for Traveller Hero, so you can use whichever version suits you.
  8. Re: Beowulf-class Type-A Free Trader Deckplans Here's a preview of my version of the Ueknou-class Vargr corsair: http://members.cox.net/alathan/ueknou-preview.pdf This is just the main deck (other decks will be added later), and because it's exported directly from Inkscape it's a bit bloated in size (1 MB). I'll probably post the full deckplans on Monday when I can clean things up with Acrobat. I'll also be revising the Beowulf deckplans on Monday as well... nothing major, just cleaning a few things up and stuff. Also, I was wondering if anyone is interested in 1.5m square grid versions of these as well?
  9. Re: Beowulf-class Type-A Free Trader Deckplans Yep, I've got several deckplans from that site that I'm using as a guide to make my own. However, none of them have external views of the ships. Some ships, such as the Scout/Courier, the Free Trader, the Fat Trader, and the Close Escort have been illustrated numerous times, but some ships (such as the Vargr Corsair) are less well-illustrated. I'll just leave my Ueknou deckplans without an exterior layout until (if) I can find any illustrations of it elsewhere.
  10. Re: Beowulf-class Type-A Free Trader Deckplans I've got two decks done on the Ueknou corsair, with one more to go, but I can't find any pictures of the ship's exterior, and I loaned my Traveller CD-ROM to Steve to use for preparing his Traveller Hero game, so I don't know if it has any decent pictures of it in any of the Vargr supplements. Anyone know where I might find one on the web? I'm not too hopeful, but I figured I'd ask just in case. That reminds me, in drawing up the Ueknou, I realized I left out something rather crucial from the Beowulf... a power plant! (I don't think the deck plans I was working off of had the power plant on them either.) I'll have to fix that. I'll post an updated Beowulf deckplan sometime later today or tomorrow when I get around to it. [EDIT: scratch that, I already did include the power plant on my Beowulf... I think I'm due for a memory upgrade! ]

  12. Re: How to get swords on your starship This reminds me of a novel I read many years ago, Homecoming by John Dalmas. If I remember it correctly, mankind establishes its first interstellar colony, and then disaster happens, all contact with Earth is cut off, and the colony doesn't have a starship. 800 years later, the colony has finally grown and developed to the point it has built its first starship, and they send a mission back to Earth to find out what happened. Earth, it turns out, fell victim to a plague or something, and by the time the colonists returned 800 years later, Earth was in the middle of its second medieval age. A warlord manages to capture one of the ship's shuttles and its crew, and the captain of the ship has to decide whether to give the warlord firearms and his other shuttle in return for the return of his crewmembers, or should he trust another band of viking-like barbarians to help him get his shuttle and crew back. Might make for an interesting game if the PCs are the contact group sent down in a shuttlecraft to explore the planet and find out what happened... then they get captured by barbarians and have to find a way to get their ship back, or find allies to help them... meanwhile the barbarians could have figured out how to fly the shuttlecraft (perhaps it's largely automated or voice-controlled) and are wreaking havok on their enemies with its fusion torch engines and missile racks... Or maybe the PCs are the barbarians who have captured the shuttlecraft...
  13. Re: Beowulf-class Type-A Free Trader Deckplans And then after that I might draw up an Ueknou-class Vargr corsair next...
  14. Re: Beowulf-class Type-A Free Trader Deckplans Ahh yes. Seems an odd way to handle it though. I had thought the Recovery represented the drive's fuel requirement, but now I think about it, it wouldn't take a full week to refuel a ship... Speaking of fuel... in other Traveller incarnations, a ship typically requires one tenth of its displacement tonnage in fuel per jump rating. For example, a 200-ton ship with a Jump-2 drive would consume 40 tons of fuel to make a single 2-parsec jump. It doesn't look like that's represented in the above stats, or am I missing it? (Power plants consume fuel too, that's covered with a custom modifier, so I'll just stick to the jump drive for the moment.) I know HERO doesn't normally deal with fuel consumption in a specific volume-per-time fashion, but it was always an important consideration for starships in Traveller (partly because fuel requirements limit the interior layout of the ship), so that's why I bring it up.

  16. Re: Beowulf-class Type-A Free Trader Deckplans Ooo, that's a really good point! Good catch there, Steve. Also, I noticed the jump drive has Extra Time (1 Hour, -3)... I assume that's the power-up time for the drive. But shouldn't it also have an additional Extra Time (1 week, -4½) for the time it takes to actually complete the jump?
  17. Re: Traveller Hero, Revised deckplan sample
  18. Re: Beowulf-class Type-A Free Trader Deckplans Thanks! I'd be more than happy to make more. Anyone have any requests to start things off? It's pretty much a stock far trader: 49 dton cargo bay, Jump-2 drive, 1G maneuver drive, beam laser, missile rack, sandcaster... just enough to get a bunch of travellers into trouble. I don't have the HERO stats in front of me, but Traveller Hero should have a full set of stats for free traders and far traders when it comes out.
  19. The Beowulf-class Type-A free trader has always been one of my favorite ships in Traveller... it just has a cool form factor, and as a stock free trader, it's a staple of travellers across the Imperium. Since our gamemaster (Steve) is starting up a Traveller Hero game, I decided to draw up my own version of the classic deckplans for this ship, sleightly modified for my own tastes and complete with a 2m hex grid, to try to convince him to let us have one for our group. If anyone else is interested, here's a link to the PDF of the deckplans. It's a 576kb file, so it shouldn't strain anyone's PDF browser plugins. If there are any problems viewing or printing it, let me know. EDIT: I've updated my Beowulf deckplans, and you can now download them in two versions: with a 1.5m square grid (for Classic Traveller) or 2m hex grid (for Traveller Hero); each file is about 630kb. I'll also be including links in my sig for them as well.
  20. Re: Traveller Hero, Revised deckplan sample Awesome, shadowcat! Thank you for all of your hard work.
  21. Re: Traveller Hero, Revised deckplan sample Except for the fact that the map key says the hexes are "2mm" scale instead of "2m", and that the new 2m hexes look to be about the same size as the old 1.5m squares (meaning the ship just got a lot bigger), it looks great. EDIT: BTW, I can live with 2m hex = 1.5m square thing, that's not a big deal... I'm just glad to have hex-based deckplans. The 2mm thing might confuse people though. PS: if you wanted to make the hexes true to scale, just enlarge them by 33%...
