  1. If a character declares he is going for "memories" on Telepathy and suceeds, can he also send and receive surface thoughts (which is two categories easier)? Another words, does a character have access to all the categories below him on the telepathy chart?
  2. Ok. My combat move is 10, I use non-combat and move 10 (thats only a half phase) then I hold my other half phase. Someone comes up to attack me, I abort to dodge. My OCV and DCV goes back to normal (cause I declared a new action right?) and I get the +3 from dodge. I can do this? Effectively moving my entire normal combat move in half a phase and keeping all my defense. Some people have told me its an Accel/Deccel problem, others have said you cant do it for some other reason that was never clear to me.
  3. Re: Non-Combat movement in Combat...keep reading I'm not liking the complexity of the accel/deccel rules. So, if I have a move of 10, I cant move just 10 and stop moving? I have to spend time in my next phase to stop? Most sections of the book say you can simply move your move as a full phase or half move as a half phase. Also, the math doesn't quite make sense to me. If I can move a full move in one phase why cant I move farther in the next phase since technically I have faster velocity from the beginning instead of have to accel to my full velocity for the first two hexes. For me, its all about game play. Real world physics comes second. Not sure if I like the above conclusions; but not sure what to do about it yet; separate question: What negs from maneuvers or non combat move goes away once I take a new action...right? By the way, I'm not saying I disagree really; personally I've always found Killer Shrikes logic and rule knowledge a big boon to me being a newbie. I'm tempted to request you by name when I post lol.
  4. Re: Mental Powers: Can you use Rapid Fire with Mind Control? Sweep? Thanks for all the help guys. I'm thinking I'm going to make the Mentalist at 1/2 DCV and EDCV. What do you think? Also, Can someone reply to my new thread. Its another rules question.

  6. I remember reading somewhere that you can do this, but I cant find it now in the book. Help please
  7. Re: Wow...you cant perfom a zero phase and then a full phase? Is this right? I agree that you can do it, and that its just poorly worded. But I disagee that it specifically says it under zero phase. I have FRED and it says exactly like you post says. We are reading the same words, but I disagree as to the meaning. For example...just cause it says you can use it at the begining of the phase doesnt mean you can use it before a full phase. Half actions also say you can use it at the begining of the phase. Its implied. Thanks for everyones clarification. I would have hated to break that news to the players (umm..you know that thing you always do.....well now you cant!) Actually I would have just house ruled it.
  8. Re: Wow...you cant perfom a zero phase and then a full phase? Is this right? Hmm....it doesnt specifically so you can do a zero phase and then a full phase. It does imply it. On the other hand, under full phase, it specifically says "can take no other actions". This is so basic, other people must have come across this before. I'm sure its just a case of bad wording. Has there been an official ruling on this? Anyone?
  9. I must sound like a total noob. It just seems to me like you should be able to do this. Under the description of a Full Phase action in FRED it says "you can do nothing else and take no other actions". That would include zero phase actions right?
  10. Re: One last hurdle with the Demon Armor Another great idea Pawsplay! Hmm....vehicle..... "If the lie returns to the mouth of the powerful, our voice of fire will speak again" - EZLN
  11. Re: One last hurdle with the Demon Armor Wow....I havent considered that. That might be just what I need! What is the "palindromedary"?
  12. If i'm wearing this demon armor thats built as a follower (or summon, or duplicate etc) how do I handle who gets hit? who takes the damage? What DCV do they target? Its character wearing another character. How do I build it if I wanted to have the main character take the damage and to hit? or the armor? or a hybrid (damage is split)? One day, when my toddler lets me (i'm a single father) i'm going to take the time to upload an avatar and add a signature. For now: "The possesions of the rich are stolen property" - Proudhon
  13. Re: Can Trigger do this? haha...Sean, your hilarious. Killer Shrike, thanks for the straight answers I already went the way of building the armor as a follower but it was a. too powerful and b. didnt feel right. Its armor that I'm always wearing so I had trouble coming up with who takes the damage when I get hit; my follower (the armor)? or me? or both? how do I do that? Who's DCV do the target? So I gave up and went with the trigger thing. Based on my reading of trigger, if the attack triggered during one of my phases, it wouldnt take up my actions or my attack. My next statment, it doesnt explicitly say under trigger but I'm sure it should (or maybe it says it somewhere else). You can only trigger an attack once per phase.....right?...I mean....it would just be broken if you could trigger an attack say.....10000 times per phase (takes no time to trigger and automatically resets). Anways, I wouldnt allow that. Killer Shrike.....I failed to consider the fact that I wanted to be able to use the tentacles from time to time also, so I need to buy the more expensive trigger (two conditions). Thanks First session is this sunday hehe. Cant wait, this will be my first time GMing Heroes and I'm pretty new to the system in general, but i've been reading fiercly. Note: I keep saying "I" but its not actually my character, just helping a player build it.
  14. Re: Can Trigger do this? Yep, you got me. Its about the Demon Armor again hehe. However, I find that its not that expensive for what it does. Its just a +1 Trigger! And its a free attack without taking up my action. Thanks guys
  15. Can I put a trigger on a HTH Attack, and when it triggers it attacks my opponent? If so, Do I still control who it attacks (for example if I'm unconcious when it triggers) Also, can it attack without using my actions? (leaving me free to do other stuff) If no, to any of these, then how do I build an attack that doesnt use my actions and is fairly independent of me WITHOUT using Follower or Summon? Uncontrollable only lets the attack keep going after you intiate it. I'm hoping Trigger can handle the intiating of the attack and Uncontrolled can keep it going. Thoughts?
  16. Ok. 1pt CSL's. One attack with one specific weapon. The weapon is a specific sub machine gun. Could I buy a bunch of 1pt CSL's and use it to attack with autofire, rapidfire etc...basically, am I allowed to use manuevers with my one point CSL's or not. Also, If I attack lots of times in one phase (via rapid fire) I get my pluses to each attack? or I have to divie them up? If I cant do these things then I assume 2pt CSL's would work?
  17. Re: More than just Uncontrolled...help please Ok. I started to like the Summon idea. But the living demon armor (think spawn) is always with him! Even while asleep etc...it can intiate its own actions and anything it does doesnt use up the characters actions (when it attacks or whatever). How about Follower instead of Summon? Follower is already assumed to be always there. Already assumed to be loyal. Can act on its own etc...dont need to buy the +1 Specific being. But, he has to have disadvantages of Follower too. Primarily that it can be killed. The expensive part about doing it this way is I'll end up dumping a lot of points so the armor wont be killed and then whatever I have left is its powers that would help me (the attacks, and UOO armor, UOO regen). I'm a 150pts character with 100pts of disadvantages so thats: 30pts for the first 150pts of the follower, then 1 for 1 ration thereafter. Right? Or do I keep the good ration up to 250pts?
  18. Ok, I am trying to simulate two things. 1. I'm trying to build an attack power that will continue "attacking/defending" the charcter even after he's stunned or unconcious. I make it constant, I make it Uncontrollable. But, I want this attack power to sort of have a will of its own. It starts attacking in combat, but its actions are completly seperate from the characters (it doesnt take the characters actions). It defends the character sort of like a follower but it doesnt have the disadvantages of a follower. (its a suit of living demon armor). I dont think it fits as a focus either. 2. A similiar thing except for forcefield. By making forc field Uncontrollabe or Persistent it will stay on after the character gets stunned or unconcious BUT I want it to be able to turn itself on if the character gets knocked out (by suprise for example) so it can protect the character while he regenerates or whatever. I guess I can do this one with a trigger. What about #1 though, thats a little more tricky.
  19. Re: Ranged Martial Arts and TK or Entangle Good thing I read this thread. I was just building a character with a similar power and I also didnt realize there was a range penalty. It just feels wrong. I'm going to buy the LOS advantage so it works off of line of sight instead of the normal range, that will get rid of the range penalty. I think you can do that, Hero Designer is pretty good at warning me if I cant so I'll plug that in when I get come. I'm going off of Heroes Fifth Edition Revised. I dont have any other books Dean
  20. Freakin A, my boss is finally gone, I can stop working and post! lol. Ok, I have a PC who wants to specialize in the drain power. He wants to be able to drain "any characteristic or power". Switching on the fly but only draining one power at a time. I started by going to page 111-112 in 5th Edition Revised. Thats the Variable Effect and Variable-Mulitiple Effects section for Adjustment powers. I cant do exactly that with just those two. Variable Effect keeps building up "now you can drain 2 things at the same time...now 3...now 4.." Not what we're looking for. At most it says "within a related group of special effects" Like draining all Fire based powers for example. Ok, so now I move on to Variable Effect - Multiple Special Effects. At +2 it finally says it affects "all special effects" However, to buy +2, you are first required to get at least a +1/2 in Variable effect which we dont want or need cause we dont want to drain multiple things at the same time! I dont think it would be an abuse to ignore needing to get the other +1/2. Actually, in comparison, you can get "Cosmic +2" for VPP to being able to spend your points in anything. Another weird thing was that when I was building this power using Hero Designer, it didnt have either of these options per se (unless I did it wrong). What I found was an advantage called "Variable Special Effects" Page 278 Revised, Which allows you to change the special effect of a power to anything; I'm not sure that would work with this Drain. We're not exactly changing the special effect of our power, we're changing the power itself so it can effect any other power instead of picking one. Ok, Thanks for reading my long post. Thanks ahead of time for all the advice. This site has been an awesome source for newbs like me.
  21. Re: Android Resistance Eternal Sage, we think alike! Great post. To add in on the other debate: The campaign setting is one in which Mentalist Powers and "machine control/hacking" are both very rare, so I think I'm going to let him classify himself as a "machine mind" without extra points. He will take the "can not be stunned" and "no bleed" but not the "Takes no stun". He cant get stunned but he can get knocked out.
  22. Re: Android Resistance Thanks guys, I didnt know of the Automaton section in the book, but now I found it. It is exactly what I'm looking for, I'll probably just charge the PC more points for the same power since he cant normally buy it. Also for game balance I'll charge him 15pts for being considered a "robot mind".
  23. I'm trying to build a robot that is immune to being stunned, immune to bleed and has no mind (effectivly immune to mental attacks). Suggestions? The more specific the better. Thanks again guys!
  24. Re: Possession Thanks everyone. I think the best way to go is Transform via DocSamsons layout. To Everyone who suggested Mind Control: I'm not sure how you would actually accomplish the long term "I'm in his body and now my body is dead". Someone mentioned MK with TK, I assume TK stands for Telekinesis? Confused about that one.
  25. I'm looking to build a non-corporeal character who can permanently possess someone else's body and gain their physical characteristics but not their memories, skills or powers. This would be separate from my natural non-corporeal form but would be permanant until canceled. I'm new to Hero's and thus far have not found an easy way to do this. Also, i'm interested in two variations: 1. Possessing someone (that kills them in the process) 2. Possessing a body thats already dead (probably simpler and less expensive). Thanks Dean
