  1. I provided the breakdown of the spell, for those of you curious.

HOWEVER, I think you're missing the point of the question. Regardless of what the limitations should be, our question is should Kali add the limitation "Must be able to reach the ground with the staff (-½)" and thus get the 3XP back, now that she would have to fly down to the ground (and potentially in harms way) in order to be able to cast the spell.

  2. Here is the current build of the Spell:

Spell of the Shock Wave:  (Total: 201 Active Cost, 28 Real Cost)

    Blast 9d6,

    Does Knockdown (+1/4),

Area Of Effect Accurate (8m Radius; +3/4),

    Selective (+1/4)

    (101 Active Points);

Damage only affects parts of the target's body (typically feet) that are touching the ground (-2),

    3 Charges (-1 1/4),

Expendable (Material Components; Easy to obtain new Focus; dirt; -1),

    OAF: Staff (-1),

Only affects targets on the ground (-1/2),

    No Range (-1/2),

    Gestures (-1/4),

Incantations ("Bam Bam"; -1/4) (Real Cost: 13)

    plus

    Entangle 4d6, 3 PD/3 ED (Dismissible),

Takes No Damage From Attacks All Attacks (+1/2),

Area Of Effect Accurate (8m Radius; +3/4),

    Selective (+1/4) (100 Active Points);

    3 Charges (-1 1/4),

Only targets effected by initial shockwave Power loses about half of its effectiveness (-1),

    Material Components (Expendable; dirt; -1),

Linked (The Wave; Lesser Power can only be used when character uses greater Power at full value; -3/4),

    No Range (-1/2),

    Gestures (-1/4),

    Incantations ("Bam Bam"; -1/4)

    (Real Cost: 15)

  3. Forum name: It's my last name

1st TTRPG: Champions in the early 80s.

1st TTRPG GMed: Dark Champions: The Animated Series. (It only lasted two or three sessions.)

Currently playing: Fantasy Hero. "The Sword of Daden." An Epic Fantasy Adventure. We've been playing since Oct. 10th, 2017 (with an 18 month gap for the pandemic).

When start HERO: in the early 80s

  4. My wife is playing a sorceress (Kali) in our Fantasy Hero campaign. Kali has an enchanted staff (OAF) which must be tapped on the ground (Gestures) for a spell to work. When we built the spell, she was always either on foot or on horseback, from both of which she could reach the staff to the ground to activate the spell. Therefore, we didn't take a Limitation "must be able to reach the staff to the ground (-½)." However, in the course of the campaign, she recently acquired a magic necklace that enables her to fly. (We know, and play, that Complications gained during play are not worth any points, but Limitations are a different breed.) Our GM (@nlubofsky2) is on the fence as whether or not to give her the Limitation now (it would mean gaining back 3XP). He's agreed to post this query here on the forums for your feedback. What say you?

  5. The wife and I are considering moving to Boise, ID. Just wondering if there is any HERO presence out that way. Would love to join an existing campaign.

Will be bringing this table and would love to host if that works for the other gamers.

(Table seats 7; can squeeze 9.)

FYI: I'm not a GM (just don't have the skills or inclination) but happy to host if someone else can GM.

  6. 6E2 p.134 states, "A character in a Heroic campaign may push his STR or abilities up to 5 Character Points with a successful EGO Roll, +1 Character Point for every point by which he makes the EGO Roll." Our group has read and re-read this and discussed subtleties of grammar and word order. We think it means either

A character with a STR of 10 who makes his EGO roll by 3 can push his STR to

    1) 18 (5CP plus 3 for the 3 points by which he made his EGO roll)

    OR

    2) 13 (3CP because the 5CP is a max, not a starting point.)

  8. I am playing in a mostly realistic Fantasy Hero campaign. Mostly realistic at least regarding how humans interact with animals. (I.e. animals don't talk.)

My priestess, Berika, has an owl familiar, Flamebreast. I would like Flamebreast to be able to scout for danger along the path ahead. I thought of Clairsentience. But I would also like for Berika to be able to tell Flamebreast instructions like, "go back and see what's behind that boulder." How would I accomplish that given the fact that even if the two of them were standing face-to-face, Flamebreast would not be able to comprehend Berika's words. What game element, along with Clairsentience would allow that ability?

    Thanks Fellow Heroes.

  9. My priestess has a familiar. She wants to be able to send it out ahead of the party to scout the way. I was wondering if Mind Link would be the way to accomplish this. She could send him ahead and he could notify her of any problems ahead. But he, the familiar, is an owl. Would he recognize the dangers as she would and be able to communicate them with her back through the Mind Link? He might get excited if he saw a mouse along the trail but not care if he saw a band of Orcs.

Does Mind Link allow the user to read the mind of an animal to determine what it sees and interpret that information intelligently? Or would it be as useless as trying to communicate with the animal face-to-face?

If I bought Clairsentience, then she would have to pointedly stop and "switch" senses from hers to his and also would not be able to tell him to "turn around and have another look at what is behind that big rock."

Would I need both Mind Link and Clairsentience to accomplish my goals? Would Mind Link accomplish anything at all with an animal class of minds?
