Transformers: Prime for Champions 4th edition

Following my attempt to work on Prime Optimus Prime, I figured I'd start a thread for the whole show. I'll be posting characters in pair, one hero one villain.

Tonight's pair are two of the main characters on the show. Bumblebee and the Decepticon Car Vehicon.

Bumblebee is a small but quick Autobot, more closely based on the character who appeared in the 2007 Michael Bay films than the character from the 1984 TV series. He's a sports car who suffered damage to his vocal systems, and speaks only in beeps. He works in gathering intelligence for the Autobots and works closely with a human partner name Raphael, a young computer hacker, who has a nack for understanding Bumblebee. I gave him weapons based on those he has used on the show (his blaster), and those found in the toy line (his weaponizer cannons and sword) He comes out as a 350 point character. Bumblebee has had some variants over the years. He was once possessed by Megatron's mind. He once lost his T-Cog which locked in robot mode with no weapons. He also once used the Phase Shifter artifact, giving him Desolidification and the Polarity Gauntlet, which has magnetic powers.

The Decepticon Car Vehicon is the baseline trooper used by the Decepticon. While sometimes considered "drone", they seem to have feelings and personality. They are the weakest of Cybertronians on the show (and lowest point value, a mere 250 point character), but what they lack in power they make up in numbers - dozens, possibly hundreds of Car Vehicons exist on Earth. Their vehicle modes are all identical sinister black racers, forms chosen to blend in with the human world. Each Vehicon carries a simple blaster, which usually misses it's target (in fact I don't think on the entire run of the series any Autobot has been seriously damaged by a Vehicon's blaster!) No Vehicon has dispayed use of any special melee weapon besides his fists.

Re: Transformers: Prime for Champions 4th edition

I don't recall Vehicons being bad drivers, they just have the aim of a Stormtrooper. They always miss when it is important.

I based many of the characteristics on the Tech Specs from the toy boxes. Dex is based on their toy's "SKILL" stat. Bumblebee had a "SKILL" stat of 6 out of 10, so I gave him a Dex of 12 out of 20. Vehicon has a "SKILL" of 4 out of 10, so he got a Dex of 8 out of 20.

Anyways, here is the second pair of characters from the series:

Ratchet is the resident medic and scientist of the Autobot team. His is clearly based on the Ratchet from the 1984 cartoon series, with hint of the Ratchet from the 2007 movie and the Transformers Animated series. He is a bit older and more cautious than most of the Autobots, and usually stays back at base with Agent Fowler, but if required he be lethal in combat with his blasters and battle blades. He turns into an ambulance. For a short time Ratchet used synthetic energon to boost his capabilities, but it acted like a drug in his system, making him unstable, so he discontinued it's use. Base model is a 350 point character.

Knock Out is the resident tech and default mad doctor of the Decepticons. He is an original character for the series, although there have been minor characters named Knock Out in Transformers before, they were nothing like him. His toy bio paints him as a weapons designer, but on the show he's more the medic. He becomes a sports car, and is very proud of his looks. He has a tendency to go after those who wronged him or his allies with a vengence. Often works with Breakdown as a lethal team. He has a blaster and saw weapons in his hand on the TV series, and carries a Shockblade (sword) weapon in the toy line. He has used the Phase Shifter artifact. Comes to just over 300 points.

Re: Transformers: Prime for Champions 4th edition

Oh that note, I updated Knock Out to include two more weapons, his energon prod and his drill. That Decepticon has a lot of weapons...

Today's pair of characters are the zombies of the Transformers: Prime world. Both Cliffjumper and Skyquake appeared in one episode, got killed, then brought back as zombie Transformers. These are their original LIVING forms (I might do zombie writeups later).

Cliffjumper is an Autobot Commando. He's basically the 1984 Cliffjumper on steroids. He's Arcee's partner, who came to Earth in response to a beacon sent by Optimus Prime (borrowing from the 2007 Transformers movie again). He appeared in the pilot episode, where he was killed, then used as an experiment to renanimate Transformers by Megatron. He turns into a muscle car. He has blasters in the TV series, and as a toy carries a mace weapon. Comes to just over 300 points.

Skyquake is a big, honorable Decepticon jet, and the brother of Dreadwing (same animation model, but Skyquake is green, where Dreadwing is blue). His appearance is based on an obscure Generation 1 character of the same name, but his personality (and that of his twin) are more closely based on Dinobot from the Beast Wars series - the honorable, but violent warrior serving a less-than-honorable master. He first appeared, and was killed in the episode "Loose Cannons". His weapons are called a Tornado Cannon as a toy, and as a grenade launcher on the Hasbro web site, so I gave him both. He also has a sword in his larger toy. I added a limited form of Mind Link to his twin brother Dreadwing. This big bruiser Decepticon came to over 400 points.

Re: Transformers: Prime for Champions 4th edition

Today's update included the two muscle-mechs of the teams.

Bulkhead is based on the character of the same name last seen in Transformers Animated, but with a bit more of a combat edge. In fact he strikes me as TFPrime's answer to Springer, a big, green, strong, smart former Wrecker. Bulkhead can convert his hands into battle maces or blasters. He turns into a truck. His human partner is the trouble-seeking Miko. A 350 point character.

Breakdown is a long-time rival of Bulkhead. He turns into a blue truck. Pretty evenly matched, Breakdown is more of an original character in the series (although the name Breakdown has been around since 1986!). His hands become hammers and he has a shoulder mounted blaster. He often works with Knock Out, as his assistant and detailer. A 350 point character.

Re: Transformers: Prime for Champions 4th edition

I had trouble figuring out a theme for today's characters, so I'll just go with the fact that both characters wear high heels.

Arcee is a tough female Autobot who turns into a motorcycle. She's seemingly based more on the 2009 movie Arcee character than the Generation 1 Arcee. Her toy lists her function as a stealth fighter, so I threw in some stealth skills. Arcee possessed very obvious size shifting in the series, turning form a normal sized motorcycle into a giant robot at least double the size of the motorcycle. Her current partner is the young heroic human Jack Darby, but she used to be partners with Tailgate and Cliffjumper, before they were both killed in seperate events. She holds grudges against the Decepticons Airachnid and Starscream for killing her former partners. She's used the Polarity Gauntlet and the Apex armor on occasion. Comes to just over 300 points.

http://home.comcast.net/~mathewignash/PDFs/ARCEEP.pdf

Starscream is the former second in command of the Decepticons (and occasionally leader, when Megatron is injured or missing). In the War for Cybertron video game he is depicted as a former Autobot scientist who joined the Decepticons out of fear, but that's pretty much overlooked in the TV series. On occasion he's gone rogue and played it solo, even selling information to the Autobots in trade for repairs, but no one trusts Starscream, and for good reason. He's always looking out for himself. He's used the Apex Armor (read: Marvel's Juggernaut powers) and red energon (read: The Flash speed) for power boosts on occasion. For a while he lost the ability to transformer or fly in the series, but these powers were later returned. Several clones of Starscream have existed in the series too. They should have similar stats to that of the original, including full memories. Comes to just over 400 points.

Re: Transformers: Prime for Champions 4th edition

Might as well throw in a holiday update with the leaders of the two factions:

Optimus Prime is a former archivist who raised to the rank of Prime for his heroism during the war for Cybertron. He is the current leader of the Autobots, although he only has direct contact with those on Earth. He has a great respect for and is VERY protective of human life. He has a variety of weapons, including swords, blasters and his "Weaponizer" cannons. He has wielded the Star Saber and the Forge of Solus Prime on occasion. He turns into a semi-truck. Comes to just over 500 points.

http://home.comcast.net/~mathewignash/PDFs/OPPRIMEP.pdf

Megatron is the tyranical leader of the Decepticons. He despises humans, Autobots, weakness, and probably most of his fellow Decepticons. He values loyality, but is willing to overlook backstabbing if he thinks a Decepticon can be of use to him (see Starscream). Turns into a Cybertronian jet. His weapons include his cannon and a Cyber sword. He's wielded the Forge of Solus Prime and the Dark Star Saber, as well as being an occasional user of Dark Energon. For a time he had the arm of a dead Prime grafted to his body, allowing him to use the Forge of Solus Prime, but has since lost that arm. Comes to over 500 points.

I've done a lot of updating of the write-ups as I rewatched the series recently, as well as checked out the toy line. I've added the new Beast Hunters weapons to most characters, as well as TF and WF skills they need.

I have two new characters for you too.

Smokescreen is a young Autobot who trained with the Elite Guard for the great war... but ended up stuck with guardian relics for Alpha Trion instead of making it on the front lines. He ended up missing the war when Alpha Trion knocked him out and sent to to Earth with the relics. The Autobots on Earth found this young Autobot eager to fineally get to play his part in the war. Although impatient, he's proves himself to master at improvising combat tactics, and save the Autobots on multiple occasions. He's basically the character of Hot Rod or Hot Shot from other Transformers series. He turns into a sports car. His weapons include standard blasters, a chainsaw, a net, magnetic smoke. He also has used the Phase Shifter and Spark Extractor artifacts (he considers the Phase Shifter his signature weapon now).

http://home.comcast.net/~mathewignash/PDFs/SMOKESCP.pdf

Airachnid is a professional spark hunter, she enjoys hunting the last member of any species as her trophy. If she has to exterminate all the other members of that species first, that's fine with her. She was responsible for the death of the Autobot Tailgate, who was the partner of Arcee at the time, which is one reason Arcee hates her so much. Airachinid has a number of spider-like qualities - extra limbs, the ability to spin webs, and the unexplained ability to command Insecticons. She has used the Polarity Gauntlet artifact weapon. In the series she has tried to become independent of the Decepticon, or tried to take them over from time to time, making her a rival with other Decepticons commanders. When she was last seen on the show she had been captured by the Autobots and put into a stasis pod. The Decepticon found her stasis pod after defeating the Autobots, and decided just leave her locked inside, but the day willl have to come when she gets out...

Wheeljack is the loose cannon of the Autobot team. A member of the Wreckers squad, he usually plays it alone, or works with his former team-mate Bulkhead. He's not the scientist depicted in some other series, but instead is a master swordsman and pilot. He doesn't follow orders well. He turns into a sports car.

http://home.comcast.net/~mathewignash/PDFs/WHEELJAP.pdf

Shockwave IS the mad scientist though. His hobbies include inventing more reliable torture techniques and perverting nature with his experiments with cloning violent lifeforms and bending them to his will. He turns into a Cybertronian tank.

With a wingspan of 2 football fields, breath hotter than the surface of Mercury, and an appetite for Autobots, I give you... The Predaking!

Predaking is the result of an experiment by Shockwave to clone an extinct species of Cybertronian and use it to hunt Autobots. Basically he's a gigantic robotic, fire breathing dragon.
