Solomon
I loved the first series. It had a veneer of realism on it that set it apart from most anime mecha series. "Wings" rates high on the looks department, but plotwise it's much like any other giant robot smackdown.
NuSoardGraphite
Gundam Wing: Journey to Jaburo... Funny, considering that Jaburo is from the original Gundam Timeline, which has nothing to do with Gundam Wing..but I'm just being a nitpicky Otaku. My all-time favorite Gundam series is the almighty Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, with Char's Counterattack a close second. After that they all rate pretty close together with me. The only one's I haven't seen are about 1/3 of Zeta Gundam (hurry up with those DVD's Bandai!) ZZ Gundam, V Gundam and Gundam X. (I'm ignoring Turn A. I can't take the mecha designs) oh, and I haven't seen Gundam Seed yet, but thats so new, I'm not worried about it yet.
Michael Hopcroft
Gundam Wing gets props in my book for being the first Gundam series to hit it big eher, and for strecthing the envelope on what could be shown on Amercian "children's television" in terms of story content. Although there were some stupid edits (replacing herro's "I will kill you" with "I will destroy you") and some cuts, the very idea of showing a series where the "heroes" do things that make them pracitcally indistinguishable from terrorists was mind-blowing. I honestly don't think you could put Gundam Wing on American television today for that reason. But the genie is out of the bottle and the DVDs are available. I'd love to have a complete collection someday. By the way, is most discussion of mecha anime and manga done in the Other Genres section still? I know I've discussed fantasy anime and manga in the Fantasy HERO section, but Slayers is popular enough among gamers that it seems to be the exception that proves the rule.
