Farkling
How would you build one? The ring that you can "cast" a spell into for later recall. My KISS instinct is to simply have the ring written up as OIF (or IIF), Independent, and the power is a naked Trigger advantage. This means there will be some spells that ye small rings cannot store as there will be an AP limit. What are the views of the folks out there. I plumbed Shrike's website for sample magic items....but there weren't any.
Snarf
Re: Spell Storing Ring I like it! Another way to do it would be a naked delayed effect advantage, in campaigns that use delayed effect.
AlHazred
Re: Spell Storing Ring I'd go with the Trigger idea, which is how I've used it in my game. It works pretty well; I haven't really seen a case where the AP limit really bothered anyone. Maybe the ring has a "spell level limit"? ghost-angel
Re: Spell Storing Ring Another way to do it would be a modified Mimic Variable Power Pool. Use the following Control Cost only limitations: Only Spells cast on Ring (-1/2), Only exact duplicate of Spell Cast (-1/2), Requires Spell be cast On the Ring (-1/2) [modified from the Mimic Pool on pg210 of FREd] and OIF or IIF to simulate the ring. With a VPP you can cast several small spells or one large spell to be stored in the ring. If you only want one spell at a time regardless if how much of the VPP it actually takes up add an additional limitation "One Spell At A Time" worth -1/4 to -1/2 depending on the size of the VPP versus the size of the average spell in the campaign (if all are about the same size and the VPP matches it exactly then it's worth -0 as a Limitation). How's that for flexibility? Assuming Rings of Spell Storing allow more than one kind of spell to be stored.
Farkling
Re: Spell Storing Ring Hmmm....and the pool simply "buys" the spell without the requisite limitations that the mage has....hmmmm. That has possibilities for some other artifacts that I had not considered. Tres Cool
