Rage
Check out Phosphoresent Comics The Watch Casus Belli mini series. One of the main villains is a hulking and monstrous (looking) brick with Regen called. Johny Grond. Pretty sweet if you ask me.
Rage
Re: Champions Homage in a comic book this here is one of those new fangled pictures that we here so much about in the news. He doesn't look much like Grond but you know an homage is only an homage for so long before it becomes stealing. Like my newest character Supraman. MitchellS
Re: Champions Homage in a comic book I believe Grond is based on the world Grind, meaning to crush or pulverize. The name of the character was probably meant to represent that just as Grond's name probably was in the CU.
Rage
Re: Champions Homage in a comic book Maybe, maybe not Grond is a pretty "famous" hero character, and the writers are geeks.
beauxdeigh
Re: Champions Homage in a comic book "Grond" is a word used by Tolkein. It is the name of the Hammer of the Underworld weilded by Morgoth in battle after he had descended to Angband. The battering ram used to destroy Minas Tirith's Great Gate during the Battle of the Pelennor was named after the hammer. I suspect that's where the name is pulled from for the Champions character, and, if these guys are 'geeks', I suspect they got it from the same source. Tolkein was big on languages, though, so it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't base it on a real word.
