Secret Service question 3: the First Lady's detail

The First Lady is an ophthalmologist with her own practice. A lean blue-eyed blonde, she wears the same dark-blue scrubs with the practice name in gold her staff does.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, she sees patients in her office, which is located on the first floor of one of George Washington University Hospital's parking structures.

The staff starts drifting in around 8 am and waits in the fast food place that it shares the first floor with until Paula, the office manager, and one of the First Lady's agents check the office out. Once its clear, they go in.

From 8:30 to 9 am, they catch up on paperwork. Patients are seen from 9-noon and 1-5. Noon to 1 is the lunch hour.

Wednesdays is the day the First Lady operates. She arrives at the hospital between 7:10 and 7:15.

At the Secret Service's request, she let's an agent driver her in her Mustang and wears body armor under her scrubs.

Am I forgetting anything?

It's Executive Orders, which I'm currently reading.

I chose her car because it's less noticeable then a helicopter and it's only a short distance from her the white house to her office. Johns Hopkins is over 70-miles from the White House.

I should change the coloe of the scrubs she and her staff, and some of the Secret Service agents wear from dark blue to ceil blue, which is, as I understand it, a very popular color. (Ceil blue is the color of the scrubs worn by the doctors on Grey's Anatomy.)

She could also wear a wig while in transit, to blend in a bit mire.

There are probatly two Escort Vehicles, each with between two and four Agents (more if there is a serious threat).

Parking Space is a problem,as are Buildings with serious Sniping Positions.

In all probability, the First Lady's route and the building garage are swept by D.C. Police, the University Police and the Secret Service for hazards and that her parking space is out of reach from a sniper.

There's probably a Secret Service agent in the fast food restaraunt before her staff arrives.

The First Lady and two female members of her detail wear identical scrubs. Before leaving the White House, the First Lady puts on a brown wig and one agent puts on a blonde wig, identical in color and style to the First Lady's hair. The decoy sits in the rear of the car while the First Lady sits in the shotgun seat.

Re: Secret Service question 3: the First Lady's detail

A bit about the current First Lady in the campaign, she likes to keep as low a profile as she can.

That's why she wears scrubs instead of regular clothes Hrer scrubs also let her blend into the hospital community. When her husband began his campaign, she made sure thecolor of the scrubs worn in her office was identical to that worn by the university's medical, dental, nursing and dental hygiene students as well as most of the interns and residents. Protective coloration she calls it.

She also prefers either her five-year old Ford Mustang or a Secret Service Chevy Suburbin to either a limo or a helicopter. To her, it makes sense. After all, why use a helicopter when the office and hospital are less than one mile from home?

She'd prefer not to have traffic stopped when she travels, but ifit has to, she'll accept it.

Up until now, I haven't named the characters in these discussions or told you much about them. Now that I've named them, I've decided to share that information with you. Although the names are identical to the ones in Tom Clancy's books, the universe isn't.

The President is John Patrick "Jack" Ryan, PhD. (in history), KCVO (Knight Commander of the Rotal Victorian Order). Jack is a former marine, intelligence officer and U.S. Senator from Virginia.

Caroline Muller "Cathy" Ryan, M.D., F.A.C.S. (Fellow American College of Surgeons), is Jack's wife and a board-certified eye surgeon. Since she's a top-flight eye doctor and has cared for the eyes of Presidents, Vice Presidents, Cabonet Officials and other high-ranking officials, she's well-known to the Secret Service. She has short blonde hair, worn in what is commonly called a "no muss, no fuss" style, In high school and college, she was on the swim team and was a member of both the archery and fencing clubs. Cathy still works out and is in excellent shape.

Andrea Price, who heads Jack's Secret Serrvice detail, is just like the one in the books.
