IPE and DCV

Lord Liaden

Question

Good day, Mr. Long:

What is the effect on the DCV of the target of an attack which he can't perceive because it has Invisible Power Effects? Would the target suffer the penalties of facing an Invisible opponent as described on 5E p. 283? And would it make a difference if only the SFX of the attack were Invisible? For example, someone swinging an Invisible sword; the sword itself may be invisible, but the action of the attacker's arm holding it would be clearly visible.

Thanks for all your hard work. :)

It's really going to depend on the situation (and thus the GM's judgment). In a lot of cases, the target may suffer a Surprised penalty, or you could, as you suggest, adapt the rules for fighting invisible opponents. If only the means of the attack, but not the making of it, are invisible, that tends to diminish the effect if the victim is perceiving the making of the attack.
