McCoy
Re: Captain Average!!! As I think about it' date=' Agent X's comment has some merit. It's easy to name superheroes in the top half, but how many rank in the bottom half? What are some examples? Off the top of my head: Daredevil, Black Widow, Moon Knight, the Wasp, Tigra, the Falcon, Shang Chi, Captain America (in terms of raw power), Batman (ditto), Quicksilver, Hawkeye, Kitty Pryde (whatever she's called these days), Cyclops, Angel, Nightcrawler... it starts to get difficult after awhile. That's fifteen names. I might be able to double that, not counting most of the DC heroes I'm not familiar with. But I guarantee I can easily tick off more than thirty names of high-powered superheroes. So maybe Supreme Serpent is right - for a "median power level" we might need to aim higher.[/quote'] Depends on where you draw the line. Golden Age gives you lots of Mystery Men such as Green Arrow, Dr. Midnight, Mr. Terriific, as well as Gods in the fom of men such as the Specter. In 1959, Kal-El may have been just about the middle. Logan D. Hurricanes
Re: Captain Average!!! I was always under the impression that the Beast is stronger than Power Man. As far as I can tell, Beast's strength levels are all over the board. Sometimes he's Cap's level, sometimes Spidey's, sometimes he's a demi-brick. I think he's more susceptible to writer preference than most. But then, he's one of the most mutated mutants out there. He has more forms than any non-shapeshifter should have to worry about. Want to change his strength? mutate him some more. Poor guy.
Steve
Re: Captain Average!!! I would agree that Booster Gold and Nova are middle of the road characters, powerful but too powerful, capable but not too capable. Namorita (Namora?) would fit that category too, but my knowledge of Namor's relative comes from New Warriors about a decade past. Heck, Booster Gold's powers came from ripping off superhero gizmos and trinkets from a museum and heading for the past, so he's about as generic as you get. Still, this can be used to decent effect, as the current Manhunter is showing. Nova always seemed to me to be a good example of how a 250-350 point Brick in Hero terms would appear in comics. He's a working class hero. My 500th post!
