Mike W
Recently came across a used bookshop with a large number of the Doc Savage serials, generally low number paperbacks(I think the highest was 18). Anyone have suggestions on which are the best ones?
Publius
Re: Doc Savage Gosh, I read the first few of his stories before conde nast cracked down on Doc and Shadow pdfs. It has been a while since I read any of them though for me to give any advice.
Kharis2000
Re: Doc Savage The earlier stories are better, in my opinion, than the later ones. Once Doc's adventures catch up with WW2, they stop working so well for me. If I had to put a range to it (as opposed to individual novels) I'd say everythign up to about #80 were the best. The John Sunlight stories stand out in my mind as better than average, though. If you check http://www.Blackmask.com I believe they have plain PDF cpoies of almost all (if not all) of the Doc Savage and Shadow stories, and I know that they sell inexpensive PDF copies of some of both that include cover scans and the original illustrations. Doc Tough
Re: Doc Savage Doc sez... As a Doc Savage fan I'm biased about what is a good range or not. All the novels have their good and bad points. I liked all of them, bearing in mind the era in which they were written. Doc Tough

hacksaw
Re: Doc Savage You can buy reprints of all the Doc Savage books from Amazon.com. Blackmask publishing reprinted them with two of the original novels in each book. I picked up the first 2 books and they have just arrived. --- Hacksaw
ArmlessTigerMan
Re: Doc Savage This person has reviewed most of the stories: http://community-2.webtv.net/KeiraHermes/DRHERMESREVIEWSIII/index.html lot's of spoilers here though, if you mind that sort of thing. also lots of reviews of other pulps elsewhere on the site. Actually, this is a great place to mine scenario ideas from, if you don't feel like actually reading the novels. Personal faves: The Czar of Fear, Secret in the Sky, The Sargasso Ogre, and The Fortress of Solitude

Dr. Hermes has a great site that every Pulp Hero player should check out.

The Speculations in Bronze were fun; the link between Monk and Opar in particular.
