combat maneuvers

I've always struggled with what would be the best way to get combat maneuvers for characters who know more than one fighting style. So far I've thought of two ways to resolve this.

 

1. I would not make a character pay twice for the same maneuver if the two are basically alike (e.g. a Taekwondo kick and a Muay Thai kick) despite aesthetic differences. However, a martial strike with an unarmed attack should be paid for separately from a martial attack with a weapon. This also goes for weapons with different styles (rapier and battle axe).

 

2. I just buy the maneuvers once and buy the weapon and knowledge skills to show the character's proficiency.

 

Option 2 would be more cost effective, but option 1 would be more realistic. What would be the best way to handle this?
