Extra STR, Only Vs. STR Min

Re: Extra STR, Only Vs. STR Min

Anyhoo -- I just noticed that 5ER says PSLs can't counteract "the standard OCV penalty imposed by a Combat Maneuver." Can I assume that the STR Min penalty is not standard?

The strength penalty is not a maneuver. As such you can use PSLs to offset it. This is a clean approach, but doesn't give you the extra damage the strength would.

If they accomplish the same thing, there's not so huge a difference. :) What I want is to negate the STR Min OCV Penalty that arises when a STR 15 character makes a mounted Move Through with a heavy lance (STR Min 15).

It's down to SF/X -- the Limited STR represents the character's skill at making mounted charges.

STR Min Penalty is not an OCV Penalty.

Not meeting STR Min incurs an OCV Penalty, but STR Min itself is not an OCV Penalty.

They just simply are not the same thing.

Re: Extra STR, Only Vs. STR Min

Of course STR Min isn't an OCV penalty. I use "STR Min OCV penalty" as a short-hand for "OCV penalty induced by STR being less than STR Min." Can you read it another way?

Yes.

But the text of the rule you quoted stated "combat maneuvers," as such, you're free and clear no matter how you read it.

As VDM said, yes. Because you kept bringing in the PSL rule, I wasn't sure if you trying to make it part of the same ruling.
