krayzdave
what does it mean when a killing attack does half a die of damage: 1 1/2 DC??
ghost-angel
Re: Another Damage Question Killing Attacks are 3 Damage Classes (DC) per 1D6. Thus a 1 Damage Class Killing Attack is 1 pip. 2 Damage Class Killing Attack is 1/2D6. (roll D6 and divide by 2, round up). 5ER p403 for the Damage Class table. Flames
Re: Another Damage Question You can buy 1/2 d6s at gaming stores... the die has the numbers 1-3 on it twice. However, for HERO System use, I like to take a Sharpie marker and put a little dot on one of the two "3"s to signify that, if used for rolling Normal Damage, that "3" does 1 BODY damage. For Killing Damage, the dot makes no difference. I have a bunch of 1/2 d6s, and, recently they came in handy when my character hit a bad guy with three separate 2-1/2d6 killing attacks in one maneuver (autofire). I just scooped up three 1/2d6s, six regular d6s, and went ROLL ROLL ROLL and gave the GM three damage figures immediately. That's one thing I like a lot about HERO System... rolling lots of dice. I hate systems where I roll one die for damage, especially since I'm just as likely to roll "1" as I am to roll "4," "5," or "8."
Coyotecloudchas
Re: Another Damage Question Note: 1 1/2d6 and 2d6-1 are sometimes used interchangeably as the same damage class. When we roll "1 1/2d6", we pick up two six-sided dice (that look different) and before we roll we just say which one is the "half die" so we know how to add them. Thia Halmades
Re: Another Damage Question Or use an off-color die; see my notes in your last question where I address the whole 1/2 vs. -1 debacle. They cost the same, but the math plays SLIGHTLY different and it lends a different feel. What really threw my players was when I redesigned maces as 1d6+3, Penetrating. They weren't big fans of Ogres with Maces after that. Point being, I simply took "6 Damage Classes" and adjusted to taste and to add variety to my weaponry. Nevenall
Re: Another Damage Question A half die is 1/2 of a d6. Basically a d3. In the context of a killing attack whatever you roll on the half die adds to the total. So, 1 1/2d6 killing attack is 1d6 + 1d3 total damage. Hope that helps. I'm not sure how basic of an answer you are looking for.
