Breakfall with passengers follow-up

I read your response to the Breakfall with passengers. Could a character choose to take the falling damage himself and protect his passenger by making a Breakfall roll at -2 (assuming he did not make it by -4)? If possible, would he declare this before making the roll? Thanks.

I’ll leave that one up to the GM’s discretion, but it certainly seems like an appropriately heroic thing to allow at whatever penalty the GM considers proper.
