Background/History: Feng Shing looked sternly at his terified student.

"Master, we must flee! Master Bao Yu is coming!"

"Quiet, disciple." Said Feng Sing.

But the disciple would not be silent. "Master," said the disciple, "Master Bao is the strongest man in China! I have seen him bend steel, push down a wall, and even lift an ox cart into the air!"

"What?" said Feng. "Have your lessons been wasted? Strength means nothing in a fight! Absolutely nothing!"

"Master," said the disciple, "the ox was still attached to the cart when Bao lifted it!"

Master Feng grew angry. "Foolish disciple. Strength is nothing! Skill and fighting spirit are everything!"

"Master," said the disciple, "Bao is coming! He is too strong! We must flee!"

Master Feng's voice was cold. "I must show you, disciple, or you will never learn. Physical strength is nothing, nothing at all." And with that, showing the muscle control only a master may possess, Feng twisted his own neck violently to the right, snapping it instantly! Feng's now paralyzed body fell to the ground!

"Aiee!" screamed the disciple!

"Shut up, you!" said the Master. "Now load me into that wheelbarrow, and using my fighting spirit and skill alone, with no strength whatsoever, I shall defeat the mighty Master Bao!"

And the rest is history.

Personality/Motivation: Feng is a typical crotchety, demanding, and "wise" Kung Fu master. He's abrasive, hyper-critical, condescending, and more than a little xenophobic. He's also a lunatic. Despite this, he somehow manages to persuade people both to follow him and to believe that victory in combat should be attributed to him, and not, say, to the student actually pushing the wheelbarrow.

Feng feels an intense rivalry for all other Kung Fu masters, most especially those foolish enough to suggest that physical strength has something to do with ability in combat. He will do all he can to prove that his own Kung Fu is superior.

Feng does have a sense of duty to his own disciples, and will do what he can to protect and guide them.

Quote: "Foolish child! Strength means nothing!"

Powers/Tactics: Feng is paralyzed from the neck down. In a fight, he relies on one or more of his disciples to load him into his armored wheelbarrow. From there, the disciple will charge into battle, hitting enemies with the wheelbarrow and using it to block, while Feng instructs, rants, and lectures.

Feng's Presence Attacks can be surprisingly effective, and with his high Analyze skills his advice is often useful (remember that complimentary skill rolls let one character assist another). If the Extraordinary Skill Use rules are in play, Feng can sometimes use Oratory or Persuasion to significantly change the course of a battle. He should always be permitted to persuade gullible NPCs that he, not the person pushing his wheelbarrow, deserves credit for his victories.

Feng's wheelbarrow is armored, and most people find it difficult to intentionally target a quadriplegic. Feng's DCV should be 11 in most conflicts (he's always prone, but DCV can only be halved once)..Of course, against foes who don't mind targeting a quadriplegic, Feng's DCV is only 6. Somehow, despite his vulnerability, he never seems to get seriously hurt in combat.

If Feng's disciple is hurt or killed, he will attribute this to the disciples excessive reliance on Strength.

Campaign Use: Annoying comic relief enemy, rival or ally, especially for a Martial Brick. Mentor for the stranger martial artists in the group.

Appearance: An older Chinese man in a martial artists fighting uniform, lying in a wheelbarrow. His almost fleshless arms and legs are proudly displayed.

Character by Robert Dorf, 2007

Theme Song:

Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Coming to save you-oo!

Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Master of Kung Fu-oo!

Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Strength means nothing woo-oo!

Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master! Yeah!

Re: Character: Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master

A few years ago Quest magazine (the publication the MDA gives out for people with muscular dystrophy) had an article on self-defense tips for disabled people, including a photographed demonstration of a quadriplegic subduing a would-be mugger with his power wheelchair.

So your idea isn't all that far-fetched, eh? :)

"A true master needs no power wheelchair; only his Fighting Spirit!"
