I'm suprised that no one hasn't suggested Faust, or maybe Doctor Faustus?

 

I know that Lovecraft loved:D to use the word "daemon" and "daemonic" in a lot of his works. This brings me to mind his story "The Horror at Red Hook". So I could suggest Thomas F. Malone (who was the protaganist), or Robert Suydam (who was the antaganist).
