Basil
Seems "cyberware" is not-so-future tech. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2004444841_brain29.html
Jomster
Re: Cybernetics comes closer And then there's this from the rather wondeful Moorfields eye hospital in London... http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2214820/boffins-build-bionic-eye Yes, you are reading that correctly... bionic eye!!! BobGreenwade
Re: Cybernetics comes closer At this rate, by mid-century Steve Austin will seem quaint. By century's end, so will Tony Stark.

1EyedJack
Re: Cybernetics comes closer I think we will be growing replacement limbs and organs before the full on technical feisablity of a true amalgiamtion of man and machine. The series 2058 on discovery made some pretty interesting predictions along those lines.

The series 2058 on discovery made some pretty interesting predictions along those lines. While I don't disagree with your basic statement, in some cases growing a replacement limb from one's own DNA isn't practical -- for example, genetic flaws that cause the absence or deformation of limbs (maybe not all such flaws, but some), or body chemistry that somehow makes such surgery hazardous or impractical. Thus while most amputees and others with such a need will use grown replacements, not all will. Plus, the idea of just having two cybernetic extra arms without dealing with surgery (just strap 'em on) has some appeal for me.
