ProfMarks
Greetings all, I'm new to the HERO system and fairly green when it comes to PnP RPGs in general. Getting into the HERO system, especially the Dark Champion's genre. Having only a workable familiarity with the Savage World system currently, I was wondering if there are any guidelines for SW to HERO conversions, specifically in the areas of Characteristic and Skill numeric comparisions, weapon damage, etc? I'd like to be able to 'step up' my gaming to the more detailed world HERO's has to offer, while at the same time being able to use creations from the HERO system in light rules games of SW. Thoughts?
Sean Waters
Re: SW Conversions I saw this thread and I was rather concerned, as I hadn't planned on getting any conversion done just at the moment Sorry I know nothing about Savage World. Thoughts? I've always wanted to pick up some SW stuff to see the system. Sadly, that hasn't happened yet. I do think from various posts that the two should be pretty compatible/easy to adapt. Hopefully someone comes along with more than a passing knowledge. The Question Man might also have a few handy links for you... After all, I think you just summoned him. Maur
Re: SW Conversions Well, since you can get the core book (Explorer's Guide) for about $10... All the other books do is take the core rules and extend them. I have both Deadlands: Reloaded and Sundered Skies. I think I still prefer the original Deadlands to the D20 or current incarnation, but find the current one to be vastly superior to the D20 one. ProfMarks
Re: SW Conversions Eosin, The SW system is fairly deep in application, but very easy to comprehend imho. I consider it to be an excellent 'gateway' system to help people get core rpg concepts down without becoming overly intimidated by volumes of rules. That said, I've started to learn the HERO system because sometimes having more structure prevents ambiguity. The answer, it's the GM's prerogative, while a fair point at times it leaves me wanting more guidance. As someone who hasn't GM'd before, but hopes too, the extensive rule discussion and examples included in the HERO System, while daunting, do inspire me to thoughts of interesting rp and combat. Additionally, until recently, there hasn't been a windfall of SW supplements as other systems have. Again, as a potential game master, I'd like as many story outlines or canned campaigns to learn from before venturing out into my own twisted ideas. The Dark Champions genre in particular sold me on trying out HERO.
