Description: Found in the Bill Murray/Harold Ramis comedy Stripes, the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle is apparently meant to travel incognito into a desired area, then let loose with a variety of ordnance. based on a 26’ GMC Motorhome, the EM-50 mounts twin 7.62mm machine guns in the front, a battery of four flamethrowers on either side (set over the rear wheels), an anti-tank cannon in the rear, and a 6-shot missile rack that can extend out of the roof. Inside it has a full communications suite, including shortwave radio and navigation systems, first-aid kit, and a selection of small arms (M-16s, grenades, MAC-10 SMGs, and boxes of 5.56mm ammunition).

While the EM-50 normally appears as a simple motorhome, throwing a switch will extend armored panels over the windows, a periscope out of the driver’s side roof, the rocket rack will extend out of the roof, and side panels will drop down over the rear wheels exposing the flamethrower battery. The back of the EM-50 serves as an assault ramp, with the anti-tank cannon extending out of the roof overhead. While it doesn’t look like much, the EM-50 in this state can withstand AK-47 fire, and rolled unscathed through the blast of a 105mm HE shell (although there’s reason to believe it can’t take a direct hit).

Designer's Notes: The EM-50 was a snap to build once I watched the scenes with it in Stripes. I started with the Armored Car Hero Designer file from The Ultimate Vehicle, then simple copied over various weapons systems from the vehicle options section. I will admit that some of the Operations Systems are based on guess-work and a bit of logic, but considering that the EM-50 is a touch absurd as is, I figure that’s okay. In truth, the EM-50’s fixed mount weapons systems make it somewhat less than effective in any sort of conflict, so you might want to alter that if you decide to use the vehicle in your game.

Re: EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle

Is it armored all over? How would that be disguised?

I promise you, if it doesn't have added armor, its DEF isn't that high. I saw a motorhome with a hole where a BB ricocheted off a rock and through a side panel.

Other than that, it looks good. :)

Apparently it is. In the movie it shrugs off AK-47 hits and drives through the explosion of a howitzer shell.

Interesting.

In the real world, that would mean beefing up the suspension a whole lot.

Oh, they missed a trick; a caltrop or oil-slick dispenser. :eg:

After all, it's not like an RV can out-run anybody.

Well, remember it was a comedy. Real world was very far away.

Yes.

No papers?

No papers.

Sorry, Capt. Ramius, but you need a Driver's License. And these days, all your info is on your D.L., and can be read by anyone with the right equipment.

Re: EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle

I really just watched the scenes with the EM-50. The rest of the movie is funny... but there's a lot better out there now. If I'm going to watch a Bill Murray comedy, I'm going to watch Groundhog Day.
