Targets On Two Worlds

In 1981 DC Comics published Justice League of America #195 "Targets On Two Worlds". The three part story had Ultra-Humanite gather a number of supervillains from Earth One and Earth Two with a plan. They would kidnap ten superheroes, and send them off into hyperspace causing all the superheroes from one of their worlds to disappear. I was thinking that this would make a great scenario for a Justice League/Avengers crossover (better then then actually Justice League/Avengers crossover which had great art but made you want to scream "Get on with it already!")

First, who would the masterminds be?

Lex Luthor and Dr. Doom would seem the obvious suspects. Both have scientific backgrounds and the resources to exploit the sudden disappearance of superheroes on their worlds.

Next, who are the victims?

They would have to be from a number of different groups, with a variety of different powers and abilities. They would also have to have an arch enemy who would be happy to help get rid of them.

Luthor would want Superman out of the way.

Dr. Doom would want Mister Fantastic gone.

Who would the other victims and villains be?

You could bring in Brainiac. He has great multidimensional experience and wants most heroes (mostly Supes and Bats) out of the way. This takes care of DC.

On the Marvel side there is Mastermind. He has reason to eliminate the entire X-Men and Avengers and great mental ability to be able to pull it off.

In the original story the targets were Earth One - Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Batman, Atom, and Firestorm, and Earth Two - Superman, Flash, Hawkman, Johnny Thunder, and Hourman. The villains were respectively Cheetah, Mist, Signalman, Plant Master, Killer Frost, Ultra-Humanite, Rag Doll, The Monocle. Brainwave, and Psycho Pirate.

I think twelve targets from both the DC and Marvel Universes.

Perhaps it could start with Dr. Doom attacking New York City because he blames The Fantastic Four for stealing his time travel device (they didn't), and in the confusion The Invisible Girl disappears (She's secretly taken with an sonar aimed paralysis beam while invisible out by Madame Hydra/Viper/Ophelia Sarkissian) [What, is she played by Jamie Lee Curtis?]

Dr. Doom is driven off, and denies having anything to do with the Invisible Girl's disappearance. Meanwhile in Metropolis Bizarro goes on a rampage. Superman, Supergirl, and Steel try to reason with him, but he's under mind control and has to be beaten physically. He slams Supergirl into a building and a hidden Chronos teleports her into a kryptonite cell filled with anesthetic gas.

While Superman and Steel have defeated Bizarro, and search for Supergirl, in the Los Angeles of the Marvel Universe Absorbing Man and Titania attempt to rob a gold shipment, but are intercepted by Iron Man, Arachne, and Black Widow who are acting on a tip. Absorbing Man touches the Gold and becomes metal, and goes after Iron Man while Arachne uses her psychic webbing to pin Titania while Black Widow blast open a water tower and then uses her widow's bite to shock the soaked Titania into unconsciousness. When they go to help Iron Man, a civilian gets in the line of fire and Arachne saves him. However, he turns out to be Kraven The Hunter who uses his paralyzing blow to capture Arachne, and takes her away without Iron Man or Black Widow being aware of what happened to her.
