40k/Desthwatch to HERO?

Are there any conversion guides out there? Or is it a matter of they go up and GW sends out C&D orders shortly thereafter?

I'm looking to run Deathwatch for some friends, but don't care for the system much. I'd prefer to not reinvent the wheel and making a port when someone has done one (and probably better). Any suggestions?

I don't know how to attach files, and I don't have any kind of file uploader account thing.  But I did a bunch of 40K writeups several years ago.  If somebody tells me how to attach things without me having to sign up for anything or do a whole lot, I'll post the hero designer files.  As it is I'll just post the text from them.

These aren't really "conversions" as in straight numbers to numbers, more like eyeballed estimates.  I went with the idea that 40K stuff is powerful, compared to normal modern tech.  Space Marines are tough, compared to normal humans.  But they aren't going to be competitive with superheroes, by any means.

Going with the idea that a lasgun is pretty much an M-16 equivalent, I went with:

WEAPONS

Laspistol: Killing Attack - Ranged 1d6+1, 4 clips of 16 Charges (+1/4) (25 Active Points); OAF (-1)

Space Marine

Here I went with the idea that they're enhanced to tremendous levels -- when you compare them to normal men.  Theoretically you could get a natural unaugmented human who was at a Space Marine's level, but it would be quite rare.  I've always felt that Space Marine combat performance doesn't actually measure up to their legend.  "Better than 100 normal men" blah blah blah.

All this stuff is 5th edition, by the way.  Heroic level, they don't pay points for equipment.

Genestealers

These guys are really fast and deadly, and they come at you in a swarm.  They're not necessarily that durable, though.  Again, very lethal in a heroic campaign.  Not going to hold up against Firewing.

Other guys, like Orks, Termagants, and Eldar Guardians, are just going to be like normal humans who carry a special gun.  Orks probably have a Con in the 15-18 range, maybe an extra Body or two.  Termagants might have 8" of Running, but otherwise they're pretty much just a really ugly guy with a weird gun.  And the average Eldar probably has a Dex in the 18 range, with Aspect Warriors getting in the 23 range.

Every additional wound someone has, I usually give them an extra 3 Body or so.  So a Space Marine Librarian or an Ork Nob probably has about 15 Body, while a SM Captain has about 18.  Ghazkhull or somebody like that might have in the mid-20s.  But generally, their defenses are going to remain relatively low, so you can actually put Body damage on them.  You get a great roll with a plasma gun and you might kill that Warboss in one shot.

That's all I ever did with it.  It was a few years ago when I was still interested in 40K.  I didn't mess with vehicles or anything.  And you can tell my interest in certain groups (like Orks) was less than others.  Overall I kept thinking of it as "fantasy in space" when I was gauging how powerful something was, so I looked at Fantasy Hero stuff a lot.
