  2. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central I think I uploaded the wrong file. My bad. ~Gabriel
  3. Re: Supervillains and Philosophy I'd like to see something on Dr. Sivana. First, he's the prototype for Lex Luthor (most people aren't aware that Lex Luthor's character changed to mimic Sivana's during the years in which Captain Marvel was outselling Superman), and second the fight between Sivana and Captain Marvel is the original comic-book struggle between science and magic. ~Gabriel
  4. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Hmm. I didn't even consider Interpol or the CIA/Japanese covert ops. This makes for excellent back-story. Let's assume that the CIA did its usual 'support the anti-Communist movement in Asia' thing, and then didn't back him up when he needed it. Aside from the whole supervillain angle, it rings VERY true. That does two things: it gives the US government a reason to ignore his presence ("We don't want this guy spilling dangerous secrets!"), which in turn explains why he came to the USA to hide in the first place. Perhaps the CIA are the ones who arranged his False Identity? As for Interpol, I say they're after him. I usually see Interpol as being the most honest of the law enforcement agencies, and although some of them might personally think Taiwan was a better place with Kuan Ti in charge, they'd still try to recapture him for the Chinese.
  5. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Owing to my insomnia, I actually made this last night; but I was too embarrassed to triple post. In case no-one knew, they added an English language version of the newer Portuguese hero-maker. Just click on Idioma at the top of the page. ~Gabriel
  6. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Double Post! Alright, here's Kuan Ti. He's in line with Fed's version, except that he has Wood- instead of Water-based powers. They are: 3d6 Entangle RKA 2d6, +1 Stun Multiplier and Armor Piercing Telekinesis, Wood-Only (Kuan Ti is the most commonly known Chinese god of war, who was once a mortal soldier that proved himself worthy. I think it's a good fit.) ~Gabriel P.S. I'll have to redo the pic in order to change the color of his armor.
  7. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central That is almost identical to the re-envisioning I was just working on right now. Except that I completely forgot about Linguist and Well Connected. I was looking through my book on Chinese Taoist immortals and had settled on Zhu Rong, Heaven's Executioner and God of Fire. But Wood has a lot of possibilities too... Anyway, thanks for the help. I preferred him as a semi-brick, and your writeup seems to be a very fair execution of that. ~Gabriel
  8. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central I got the idea of a Flash doing KB from Steve Long's UNTIL Superpowers Database. I'm not that attached to it by any means, but it wasn't a powergaming choice...
  9. Re: Supervillains and Philosophy Subtitle Suggestions Supervillains and Philosophy: Because Good Is Dumb ~Gabriel
  10. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central I'm not one of those people who assumes that every strong brick is a Superman clone or every magnetism controller is a Magneto clone, but actually calling your multipower Master of Magnetism doesn't seem quite right... ~Gabriel
  11. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Alright, wrote in the background and added Martial Dodge. I also realized that I was spending too many points for SPEED and CSLs when I could just raise his Dex and save a few points. So I did that and eliminated the CSLs, leaving him with the same overall OCV/DCV, but faster reactions. I used the extra points I saved to get the Defensive Maneuver skill. And, of course, I redid the Disads and modified a perk that didn't fit with his background. ~Gabriel
  12. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Very true. I thought I'd already changed that. Sounds good. He's the first man to escape from the Chinese super-prison. I figure the government wants him back one way or another, in order to save face. I tend towards non-standard character backgrounds (i.e. newspaper clippings, short stories), and I haven't had time to condense them into a traditional narrative. I'll get on that. And I wasn't sure Martial Dodge would really be fair. His base DCV is 9, and he has a +1 All CSL. With Martial Dodge, he'd be able to get a DCV of 15. I wanted to ask if that would be acceptable before I threw it on his sheet. ~Gabriel
  13. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Hm. I may have to consider a second submission that doesn't step on anybody's toes. In any event, revised version attached. ~Gabriel
  14. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Or you could reflavor it as a limited form of Life Support. Longevity: 7 years, perhaps? ~Gabriel P.S. Not trying to start a carnivore/herbivore argument, just kidding around.
  15. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central I resent the idea of taking vegetarian as a psychological limitation. ~Gabriel
  16. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central I took Martial Strike and Sacrifice Strike, he's just doing 1 DC less damage than you suggest. I consider his defenses a wash despite being 2 points lower because he has a Force Wall and activated missile deflection. ~Gabriel
  17. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Please tell me that's new, and I didn't just overlook it. At the moment Ao Kuang has 8-10 DC attacks as opposed to the standard 9-11 DC for a martial artist (of the same speed and Dex). Should I give him another rank of +1 HTH DC, or would the damage be considered a trade-off for the armor multipower? ~Gabriel
  18. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Out of curiosity, how do attacks and defenses scale as speed drops? Would 13 DC and 30 defenses be normal for a 4 speed brick? ~Gabriel
  19. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central That's a really excellent idea. And I really should switch something out for Martial Dodge. ~Gabriel
  20. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Alright, I can deal with being dependent on the armor. ~Gabriel
  21. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central While I do like saving points, my first thought was that one of Fed's concerns about a few of the characters who applied for Silverstone was "you'll be a chump if somebody catches you unawares." If I move half of my total defenses to a suit of armor (which, being an OIF, I will probably lose at some point), a force field AND missile deflection that I need to activate, it seems like I'm just begging to be put down. At typical attack for the campaign would knock me senseless in a single hit. I mean, his defenses are already 5 points below the standard in both PD and ED. Making more than half of his remaining survivability conditional seems to make him pretty flimsy. And he's a former supervillain, so if his cover gets blown he WILL get ambushed. Is that going to be less of an issue in your campaign? Honestly, I didn't want the character to be too dependent on the elemental powers, so I limited the conditions under which he could use them. If that's not an issue, might as well remove the limitations. ~Gabriel P.S. In Hero Designer it says "KS: Criminal Underworld", but for some reason it refuses to export correctly...

  24. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Fed, I'm not taking sides in this debate, so don't take this the wrong way... ...but, for the sake of argument, your character seems to be a super-strong energy projector with good defenses and the ability to directly control an opponent's movement. While on its own the directional change isn't a big deal, it's a potentially unbalancing addition to the rest of his abilities. At least enough to raise a few eyebrows. And it seems to have raised Doc's eyebrows. That's what I'm seeing, anyway. ~Gabriel
  25. Re: Catalyst: A Champions campaign on Hero Central Alright, I had some free time, so I simply redid the character from the ground up. My intent this time around is for him to be a martial artist with the armor multipower. That's it. Nothing fancy. I used Black Arachnia as a reference.
