Re: Cryptic Concept Art for Nighthawk
I like it better than 4th Edition Defender's design' date=' less so than 5ths.[/quote']Blasphemy! Burn the heretic!
Why are ducks hurling objects at you?Because they're evil, obviously. They hate the awesomeness that is Tron-Defender. (Tronfender?)

Me: Hi everyone. I'm Andrew.
Everyone: Hi Andrew!
Me: I have a confession. I...I actually like Defender's redesign.

Re: Second Best Game System ?
Dug out all my Cortex stuff so I could give it a good comparison, as well as a running side by side with the rest of my Super Hero Stuff. Just not happy with it considering what it could have been even within the limits of the Cortex System. That's before getting into the stuff that's just Wrong on the handful of sheets that are provided for the game. *sigh* Ah well. One of these days Marvel will wake up and get it right again.~Rex
"Right again?" Have they ever gotten it right?
Apologies to all the FASERIP fans, but I hated that game. I've never read the other 3, so I could be wrong.

Re: What "Pulp" have you read lately ?
Between every book I read I knock back a "Destroyer" novel. I like to keep my brain in the Remo-Space.Ha! I haven't read a Destroyer in years. Far as I'm concerned, the series' Golden Age was mid 70s to early 80s.
Do they still publish them? The last I heard they were doing a reboot or something.

Re: Second Best Game System ?
Sample of play for the Marvel Heroic Roleplaying gameSounds interesting but geez, they say Hero System is too complicated?
The original thread:
http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?615607-Sell-me-on-Marvel-Heroic-Roleplaying
I tried to read the post you quoted and my brain would not allow it. Is this supposed to be simpler/better than Hero? This seems massively anal and boring.
Don't think I'll be making mine Marvel.

Re: What "Pulp" have you read lately ?
the hunt novelsJust finished A Princess of Mars. I wanted to read it before the John Carter movie came out. I've also read a few H.P. Lovecraft stories: "Dagon", "The Statement of Randolph Carter", and the "Herbert West: Reanimator" stories.
EDIT: Forgot The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Playback, and Lady in the Lake.

Re: 3rd edition Supplements
Hero Games has:The whole run of 'Digital Hero' for sale in PDF bundles which I am not sure if it dates back to 3rd edition.
Digital Hero wasn't created until after DOJ bought Hero in 2001 or 2002 (Don't remember the exact date).
Prior to that, the official Hero Games magazine was Adventurer's Club, which is also not available in PDF.
BTW can you imagine making Wings of the Valkyrie available? You'll probably see Steve write a 500+ page C.LO.W.N. sourcebook before you'll ever see that adventure as a PDF.

Re: 6th edition
WARNING: I don't know how long you've been away, but you should know that the Champions book doesn't contain the actual rules. Everything you need to play is in Hero System: Character Creation and Hero System: Combat and Adventuring. Once you have those two books, Champions might be useful, but it's not required.

Re: 11 Victoria's Secret models hit the catwalk as superheroines
Anyone else feeling nostalgic for Electrowoman and Dynagirl? Judy Strangis did things for me before I was even old enough to understand what those things were.Amen brother. Amen.
Check this out: There was an Unaired Pilot for a New Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. Say goodbye to your childhood.
Getting back to the important things...
I never said these models weren't attractive. I think they're very attractive. I just don't think they're sexy and I think it's because, usually, when you see models they're in static pictures, posed, in makeup, with great lighting. That's a lot harder to do on a runway.
And as for the "real women" comment, what are they made of paper mache? Balsa wood? If they're flesh and blood with all the right parts, I consider them real women. I don't usually discriminate based on dress size (or height, weight, build, previous gender etc.). Let's face it, they're more real than Power Girl (she's a comic book character, in case you didn't know ).

Re: Notes on current Legion of Super-Heroes members
Yep that's the issue, he basically flattens the Entire Legion while trying to prove that he is innocent. Since he can only really do one trick at a time, he's Really good at those tricks. Ultraboy still remains probably if not my favorite Legionnaire, pretty darn close to the top. Without digging out the issue, I want to say that's also the issue where he does some Vacuum exposure feats of Super Strength as well and some of his Use a Power Switch to another and so forth combo's are really well laid out in that issue. You also see what particular power actually got him in and kept him in the Legion, and what makes it different then similar powers Others have.
~Rex
I haven't read that story, but I know the one you're talking about. I really want to see that one. What issue was it? I know it was sometime before the Earthwar arc.
And I'm with you, Jo and Val are my two favorite Legionnaires, hands down. It's just a shame what DCs writers keep doing to them.

Re: Potential issues with a Matrix like campaign premise
What did the resistance do before Neo showed up? They apparently freed enslaved minds, but what else? After Neo showed up they continued to free minds, but what else did they do? Also if Neo is a hacker why wasn't he constantly testing the limits of what he could do with the Matrix? I've always felt that Neo should have had weird powers we don't have convenient labels for. Instead, he was just a superspeedster/telekinetic. Remember: This guy is hacking "reality".
These might seem like unavoidable shortcomings of the films, but if I can think of this, probably the players will ask about this stuff and a lot more.

Re: 11 Victoria's Secret models hit the catwalk as superheroines
The funny thing is' date=' despite the fact that these women—including [i']Transformers: Dark of the Moon[/i] starlet Rosie Huntington-Whiteley—are, in many cases, cavorting around in their unmentionables, they're wearing about as much clothing as your average comic book heroine. Is it weird that I don't find any of these women even slightly sexy? Beautiful yes. Sexy? Not so much.

Re: This is sort of morbid curiosity but...
3E M&M is a step backwards' date=' in my opinion, and solves none of the flaws of 2E, while stripping away some detail and granularity for reasons I can't quite fathom.[/quote']Do you have any examples? I still haven't read most of 3e and almost none of 2e.

Re: This is sort of morbid curiosity but...
Sooo I may have to get the DC game just to see eh? You smooth talker you!I thought the theme of this thread was "Friends Don't Let Friends Play M&M" ?
Yeah, I know Rex said it, but that might be for the best. Frankly, looked over 3e, don't know if I ever want to play it. It uses an effects based system similar to HERO and I don't know if I want to play D20 HERO. (Is that a meme? Could we turn that into a meme? I like a good meme.)
Right now I'm busy trying to digest the massiveness that is Hero 6e (don't need the BR thanks. I've been following HERO since Champs 2e). Liking what I see so far. HAPs have the potential to way cooler than M&Ms Hero Points. Also loving the toolkitting chapters.
Not switching anytime soon. Thanks. Good Night.

Re: Questions about the Champions 6E core rules book
Noble Knight and FRP Games are also out of many 6e books.I think I might have bought the last copy of 6E2 from Noble Knight. Just checked the status of other copies. I ordered it on the 17th and they sold out on the same day. (It arrived on the 24th. Thanks for asking. )

Re: This is sort of morbid curiosity but...
In M&M 3e (DC Adventures, whatever), strength is now tied to both lifting and damage. The game now uses the old AP chart from Mayfair's DC Heroes game.
Although, for some reason the character builds for a lot of the main DCU bricks (Superman, Wonder Woman, and a few others) have two strength listings. For example, Superman has a main Str of 19 (95 in HERO) and extra strength with the limitation that he can only use it for lifting (equivalent to about 20 Str).
I think the reason they had two different versions of strength in 2e is because of its ties to D20. Now that M&M and D20 have parted company (sort of) they don't have to restrict themselves to purely D20 stats. They've actually renamed the stats and added a few.

(I'm not sure if M&M is based on 3.0 or 3.5.)3.0

Re: Who are the greatest (?) super villains?
Kid Marvelman, the only truly great Iron Age villain.
Mojo Jojo, for over the top cartoon villainy.
Cobra Commander. Just because.
Prometheus, before James Robinson turned him into a depraved villain-Sue.
Professor Zoom for having the coolest supervillain costume of all time.
Auric Goldfinger purely for this exchange:
Bond: Do you expect me to talk, Goldfinger?
Auric: No Mr. Bond. I expect you to die.
Dr. Evil, for being even better than Goldfinger.
Finally, General Zod (movie version). If Superman is supposed to be some kind of angel, Zod is Lucifer.

Re: Do you use Dr Destroyer in your campaign and if so, which version & how?
Per BOTD, 18--19, Destroyer used mind control satellites launched by cloaked rockets to take over the world. From March 30 to June 24th, Destroyer ruled the world, opposed only by a few psionic heroes. Two of whom he captured and "killed by experimentation." That Albert. Just one big cuddle-wuddle! Then he told his old enemy, Vanguard, to destroy the Statue of Liberty, causing Vanguard to break the mind control and pull the mother of all movethroughs on the good doctor. Now, bearing in mind that the history of Doctor Destroyer seems to be told from Zerstroiten's perspective, I take it that it as full of the usual self-justifications and excuses as the average narcissist's life narrative. That, to me, opens up the possibility of a Dark Knight Returns storyline in which some avenger of the night pushes Destroyer into his little psychotic break. Anyway, that's part of the backstory I have in mind for my Champions Universe fanfiction.
Not quite what I had in mind. I think (it's been 10+ years after all) what I planned was for Destroyer to secretly control government and business behind the scenes with life proceeding as normal. Or at least as normal as you can get in a superhero universe. How he was going to accomplish this, and why his ego wouldn't get in the way, never got past the idea stage.
I think I might check out Book of the Destroyer at some point. When I have the time and money.

Re: Do you use Dr Destroyer in your campaign and if so, which version & how?
He did. In 1984' date=' appropriately enough, for three months. It's in [i']Book of the Destroyer,[/i] and would make a great Iron Age mini-campaign.I don't have BotD. What happened?
-
Re: Do you use Dr Destroyer in your campaign and if so, which version & how?
Never got around to the campaign I was planning, but I did leave myself a note in my Classic Enemies book.
The note said, "What if Doctor Destroyer took over the world and nobody knew it?"
Make of that what you will.

Re: A galaxy of humans
Elizabeth Moon's Serrano Legacy and Vatta's War novels were humans only. The latter series had people with minor genemods and cranial implants.

Re: When, if ever, would your character kill?
I don't think change in the status quo is the problem with comics. I think it's the way the change is done is so bad, even non-fans go what was that. I tried to explain what happened to Hal Jordan from going crazy to now to someone who hasn't read comic book in decades. He was like thats the lamest thing ever.I think a body count is confused with realism. In the real world with powers, I think a lot of villains would be shot resisting arrest.
CES
This.
Recently, I had a chance to watch Dark Knight again and this exact thought occurred to me. Remember, in the movie dozens of cops are killed, along with several very prominent citizens. Never mind Batman killing. Why doesn't some random cop put a bullet in the Joker's brain? Not trying to bash all - or even most - cops, but not all of them are Batman-level moral paragons.
Besides, even if the hypothetical cop was caught, would anyone in their right mind want to convict this guy? Look at Bin Laden. He was (allegedly) unarmed when he was killed and very few people have a problem with that. Imagine Bin Laden times ten and you've got the Joker and a lot of other supervillains (in terms of individual death tolls, not collectively).
