  1. I'm working on starting a new (heroic) campaign, my first in 6E, and I'm considering changing Dex to be 1 point per point. There just doesn't seem to be enough of a reason for it to cost twice as much as everything else. Yes, it also controls initiative, but, strength also controls HTH damage and lift, con controls stunning, etc etc. (I am also changing initiative so it's a dex roll rather than straight comparison, so that mitigates its value some a well) Just curious if anyone else is making this conversion. -Nate
  2. Re: Rolling for initiative I saw the speed / initiative dice thing in APG, but wasn't very impressed. It might work for initiative alone, but I wouldn't want "number of actions per turn" to be a random thing... that's too huge of a swing for a die roll (oh look, I get 3 extra actions this turn! bam bam bam!) -Nate
  3. One of the things I wish was a little less regimented in Hero is initiative. High dex guy always goes before low dex guy. I'd rather there be some element of luck in there. Here's what I was thinking - At the beginning of combat, everyone makes a dex roll (those with lightning reflexes can use the roll of their increased effective dex). Then, for each phase you start with those who made the roll by the most, down to those who missed it by the most. Ties get broken by dex. This still gives high dex guys a pretty favorable advantage, but it's not 100%. What do you think? Apologies if this was already an alternate rule somewhere. -Nate
  4. Re: Terran Empire I love the Terran Empire setting - mostly because there's just so much you have to create for a space faring Star Hero game, that to have it all done is a huge relief off a GM's shoulders. Also, there's plenty of wiggle room to give the game whatever flavor you want. So, my question is, with Star Hero 6E being shown in August '11, will there be a new Terran Empire book as well?
  5. Re: Anyone play Terran Empire? Plus, new GM Needs Tips Ha, interesting, it thinks I'm new. I was on the old boards, but haven't posted in forever (not that I was ever a heavy poster). Anyway, thanks! I am new to Star Hero, at least Starship combat is definitely something I'll plan out far in advance. I think my players would enjoy a large starship battle, so long as it doesn't take a ridiculous amount of time to play. Thanks for the tip on checking defenses vs. offenses. I don't want starship weapons to be the equivalent of ping pong balls (not that I want the ships to be eggshells either). -Nate
  6. I'm starting a Terran Empire game, mostly because I don't have time to work up all the background stuff myself, and Terran Empire looks pretty cool (plus I found the book for cheap). I've played Champions some, and have pored over the rulebooks for ages (4th and 5th edition mostly)... but never GMed my own game. Mostly my group plays D&D, but they've played a couple Hero System one-offs to get the feel of the system. So, I'm new to GMing Hero, and new to Star Hero in general. I wonder if anyone else runs a Terran Empire game, and if anyone has any tips for me about Terran Empire or Star Hero in general. Mostly things like balance, speeding up play, handling Hero newbies, etc. I'm reading and rereading Star Hero and Terran Empire to absorb as much as I can before the game, but I'm not really sure what I need to know. I have a feeling I'm going to get 1/3rd of the way into the first adventure and realize there's 100 things I just don't know about the rules, etc. Anyway, any help is appreciated, resources, etc. Thanks! -Nate
