  1. Re: Selling All of My HERO 6E Books, 50% Off Cover! Sold! Thank you, HERO community, for your help in finding these books a good home!
  2. Re: Selling All of My HERO 6E Books, 50% Off Cover! Looks like Media Mail via USPS will send all ~40lbs. of books for around $18.50 or so. I randomly picked Madison, WI as a destination from my home in San Francisco, and that's the price I was shown as an estimate when I went to the USPS and showed them the books.
  3. Re: Selling All of My HERO 6E Books, 50% Off Cover! Yup!
  4. Re: Selling All of My HERO 6E Books, 50% Off Cover! Bigby-- *haha* I got the same response from the GURPS forum, but I'm trying to work a deal there, too. (Selling all my GURPS 4E books, too!) :-) Media mail is slow but cheap. Let me check with the local USPS tomorrow if you're interested. I'll see what the cheapest route is!
  5. Re: Selling All of My HERO 6E Books, 50% Off Cover! *hahahah* Okay, that got a real-live chuckle out of me. My wife's looking at me funny. *haha*
  6. Re: Selling All of My HERO 6E Books, 50% Off Cover! Because I have them and want to sell them, of course!
  7. SOLD. Thank you! **POSTAGE UPDATE: Looks like Media Mail via USPS will send all ~40lbs. of books for around $18.50 or so. I randomly picked Madison, WI as a destination from my home in San Francisco, and that's the price I was shown as an estimate when I went to the USPS and showed them the books. (I saw that a similar "selling my stuff" thread was okayed in the Champions section, so I'm posting here.) I'm selling my entire HERO 6E collection of RPG rulebooks for 50% off cover price. Except as noted, they are undamaged and appear essentially as they did when shipped to me. **Please note that they are being sold as a LOT and not as individual books. You get 'em all or none.** ;-) Here's what I've got: Volume 1: Character Creation -- SPINE BROKEN and repaired with the magic of Elmer's glue and duct tape. Minor highlighting and margin notes in the first ~70 pages. Volume 2: Combat & Adventuring -- Minor highlighting in the first 7 pages. Advanced Player's Guide (softcover) Champions Powers Beastiary (softcover) Ultimate Base (softcover) Equipment Guide (softcover) Basic Rulebook (softcover) Martial Arts (softcover) Champions Universe Star Hero Fantasy Hero Arcane Adversaries (softcover) I'll ship wherever you are, but they weigh a total of ~35lbs. if you trust the average bathroom scale, so be warned! If you happen to be in the SF Bay Area, pickup from the Outer Sunset is probably best. Cash if we meet, or PayPal for shipping (cost + shipping, I won't charge a cheesy "handling" fee). Here's the Craigslist ad with photo!: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/tag/3163151131.html

  11. Re: Strongbow's Art Thread! In order to practice painting 3D models in Photoshop, I designed an ElectroMag Sport Bike today in Google SketchUp Pro 8. I love creating tech that looks like it might actually work, even if I have to fudge the science to get there. If you're interested in this kind of concept work, I've included a brief description for each view of the bike with my thoughts on how my imaginary bike would operate.I cobbled together the 3D elements of 5 sport bikes, a hover car and a turbine engine for this design. Next, the model will be painted in 2D in various color schemes, etc. for digital painting practice.I imagined a bike powered by electromagnetism, with only an electric "push" to get the opposing magnets inside the turbine-like engine to rotate, causing a sort of "perpetual motion" reaction that powers the bike. From this view, you can see the multiple storage / balancing motors that ensure even, safe power from the magnetic turbine. Without these, the mass-to-power ratio would be very dangerous! Please do not disable any of the balancing relays--manufacturer is not liable for death or injury resulting from excessive speed!Note that the single-fork design never actually touches the wheels. This is due to the magnetic bond that keeps the wheels at a specified distance in a frictionless magnetic relationship to the forks, which emit a constantly fluctuating "roll" of magnetism that propels the opposing magnets in the wheels. This also eliminates the need for a power train in the traditional sense--no chain, etc. needed. Everything is electronically controlled.Note the front-end of the magnetic coil turbine just behind the front wheel. In a retail market version, a screen would likely need to be erected to keep water and soil out of the inner relays. As the turbine itself makes very little noise, the manufacturer offers six different operating sounds to choose from. You can also upload your own personal "engine" sounds via any personal holographic music player.Though the "single fork" design may appear unbalanced, the natural pull of the magnetic field the bike emits provides the balance for the rider. An operator would not feel any difference in balance between this bike and a traditional two-fork design so long as the engine is operating. Care should be taken when pushing the bike while the engine is not on--remain in control of the bike at all times!
  12. Re: Skyrealms of Jorune Conversion to HERO 6E. Maybe because I use Chrome and Gmail as my primaries, but it downloaded and saved with no fuss for me. Still--good for others just in case the download doesn't work so well!
  13. Re: Skyrealms of Jorune Conversion to HERO 6E. Many thanks! Seeing what's been done before, whether I use the idea or not, is like finding a mental gold mine--thank you, LL!

  16. Re: Skyrealms of Jorune Conversion to HERO 6E.
  17. Today I signed a two-year licensing contract with HERO Games, giving me the green light to convert the out of print '80s tabletop RPG "Skyrealms of Jorune". (Thanks, Jason! *waves*) The author of Jorune has graciously given permission for me to use Jorune as a conversion setting so long as it is a free offering. HOWEVER, he stated that he would authorize a paid version if he approved of the product before hand. This is my goal. SO, at the very least, this is a labor of love and I get to play in Jorune again, as well as reintroduce it to players who may not even know the setting. At the BEST, it's an inroad to creating something that'll sell as part of the HERO System licensed properties. What I'm aiming for, paid version or not, is a fully-illustrated, complete conversion of the entire Jorune setting, using Jorune 3E as source material. I'm a freelance digital illustrator, currently working for Hasbro, Inc. designing and illustrating toys when they throw me work, so I'll be illustrating the conversion, to make it as pretty and professional-looking as I can. I intend for the book to be copiously illustrated--characters, races, tech--as much as I feel will help the book and not turn it into a Jorune coffee table book by accident! I'll need playtesters (obviously) to at least look over the rules and ensure that I'm not missing something as this moves along. I'll likely need layout help for the book itself. I'll need someone who knows a little about astronomy--Jorune's moons affect play considerably, and their movements are listed in a table in the 3E of Jorune. I'd like to build a cosmological map to make this easier to understand. See? Lots of work. Now, I've got a meeting at Hasbro HQ in late May--so work can't start in earnest until that's done. Too much portfolio work needs to get done before then--and this project will always be SECONDARY to my freelance illustration work, which is my day job (and night job, and weekend job, and holiday job...you get the picture!). My goal is to get the entire conversion together prior to the expiration of the two-year contract, giving the HERO Powers That Be time to look at and hopefully approve the book. It's a giant undertaking, and I'm under no illusions regarding the amount of work it'll take, so I'm not going to make promises about timelines I can't guarantee. IF you're interested, I'll happily slap your name prominently into the appropriate category(ies) for your contributions to the book, whatever those end up being! If you know someone who might be interested in this kind of project, send them to the FB page I set up for the conversion: https://www.facebook.com/groups/skyrealmsofjoruneconversion/ I'll also be shooting questions all over the rules section of this forum in order to brain-drain you veteran HERO folks. Alrighty...thanks for reading. Off to draw... Fred Lang
  18. Re: Making Hero 6E More Dangerous (Skyrealms of Jorune Conversion) ? *hah!* You have nothing on the GURPS boards. Nothing makes it past page 3 without being something else entirely!
  19. Re: Making Hero 6E More Dangerous (Skyrealms of Jorune Conversion) ? Wow. For a thread in which I asked, as a new guy, some general thoughts on "grittying-up" Hero, this has gone way too far inside baseball for me.
  20. Re: Strongbow's Art Thread! Thanks! Here's Kit Fisto, my Art Director's favorite Jedi.
  21. Re: Strongbow's Art Thread! Thanks, all. I'm happy to report that my comics aspirations will be put on hold just a bit, because I got hired by HASBRO last week to draw for their Star Wars line. That means I'll get paid very well to geek out on Star Wars every day. Just...wow. I think the time I get to spend on HERO just increased a bit. It'll be nice to have longer deadlines and non-sequential projects to work on. I'll be spending my time with Hasbro working on my digital painting skills, 3D modeling (then painting over those models), etc.--so this is a dream job in every way. Woot! Check out a sample of the portfolio I sent to Hasbro to make them like me. It worked.
  22. Re: Making Hero 6E More Dangerous (Skyrealms of Jorune Conversion) ? Thanks all, for the great responses. My concerns that HERO 6E might be too "super hero-ish" have been assuaged. My fear was that my exotic, blade-wielding, low-armor setting would be populated by undefeatable characters that could just shrug off the dangers of Jorune--of which there are many. I'm starting from absolute zero with the HERO system, so I'd love to return to the forum often with questions and requests for assistance so that my conversion can be precisely what I want it to be. Thank you!
  23. Re: Making Hero 6E More Dangerous (Skyrealms of Jorune Conversion) ? Great stuff so far--I'm very hopeful based on these early comments.
  24. I'm new to Hero 6E. I'm searching for a system to convert the '80s RPG Skyrealms of Jorune to, so I'm asking if Hero 6E is what I'm looking for. I have dabbled in the conversion with Burning Wheel and GURPS 4E, but I've found issues there that keep me searching for a system to call home for Jorune. (Burning Wheel's pre-planned, scripted combat turned me off. GURPS 4E, though similar in many ways to Hero 6E at face value, seems to not go quite deep enough into the mechanics of things to make me perfectly happy with a Jorune conversion. Jorune's energy-wielding powers are hard to convey with GURPS' rules--I felt that I was still being given clumped, modular answers that I could not crack open to really create what I wanted there.) Thing is, Jorune is a deadly place. It's not an Indiana Jones movie, where everything is cinematic and the bad guys shoot at you a zillion times and you shrug it off / they all miss you. Jorune is gritty--a single blast shot or good slice with a sword, and you're out for a while--if not worse. Hero 6E's origins as a "supers" system makes me wonder if I've found a great system that allows me to build from scratch what I need, but then lifts everything into that dramatic realism frame of reference that steals away the consequences that I'm looking for in a Jorune conversion rule set. I was happy to read in the 6E introduction that there are optional rules that deflate that sense of "action film / super hero" flow in favor of a more gritty feel. Is there a place online somewhere that describes these more dangerous optional rules in a way that a person new to the system would appreciate--some collection of options that make Hero 6E less...er..."super"? I do love that I can really dig in deeply to constructing from the bottom up what I want when creating the races, monsters, weapons and energy (magic) systems in Jorune--but I don't want undefeatable heroes who are just knocked unconscious in battles--I need a system that can describe the exotic, dangerous nature of Jorune before I commit to a conversion. Thanks for helping out the new guy. Let me know if any of my suppositions are ill-informed. I'm here to learn.
