Political Discussion Thread (With Rules)

Okay. I haven't nitpicked anything minor in a good while. But. Religious liberty what? What's this supposed to be doing again? -

That's not exactly constructive. Not that I expect any action on climate change from anyone regardless. I mean, I'd like to see billionaires invest more money in that, and maybe decentralized, modular construction and power generation. But man, bunkers are becoming an actual thing to invest in. The education that I was referencing (I don't know which it was, just that I know someone who was there) had a lot of interest in buying and building in Canada for the next ten years. Not even like thirty or forty years. Personally I think that's pretty silly, but... -

Sort of. I can't really think that any well-liked candidate is going to overhaul things at this point. Twenty years too late, at the very least. But. Hopefully there'll be a shift in the democrats because of this. -

Well... Rosenstein... yep. Power comes to those who take it, I guess. Without a care. The country can burn as long as the billionaires have theirs, eh? I wouldn't be so negative, but it's interesting that a lot of talk (in government representatives sent to a discussion in a science and education group someone I know is associated with) is about "what can we do to survive?" And interest in moving to and building in Canada. Not about 'how can we prevent global warming', but how can we effectively flee the US and manage whatever equipment we have when we set up in the north. -

I hate to be so focused on the specific political parties. I really hate the level of gaslighting that has been going on in the last couple of years. It's really, really blatant. You can't not see it. -

Sorry for being so negative. It just astounds me that the biggest concern some people have is 'that mexico wall' or how people 'don't appreciate what Trump's done with North Korea'. If all that anger about political correctness went to something actually useful... Man, North Korea might be the only thing he's ever done that I ~might~ like... if he doesn't eff it up. -

It'd be really nice if we had an electorate that was concerned about global warming and how the combination of abusive rhetoric and eroding rights would be used to exploit the inevitable emergency situations to follow, crushing the brief concepts of individual rights and freedom that exist in our entire world until automation turns even the concept of citizenry superfluous. Don't worry, you may still be able to get a job as a medical slave. -

The ATF is supposed to watch and track gun ownership. My limited awareness of them is they've been hampered and cut down. Largely because they aren't allowed to keep records of gun owners anymore? I'm just wondering how many of these shootings could have been prevented with better ability of the ATF to monitor this kind of activity. -

Wow, that is a good find. I didn't know that story (about pcAnywhere). I didn't even read that article (I had no time, at the time...) ...I guess I called it? x_x -

I can actually believe that they'd do that as a default system "upgrade/remote" access software for maintenance. Now, does that Remote Access Software have complete access to the system? Does it log access, allow arbitrary software updates, have default passwords? This is a little too common due to very lazy vendors and bad software development... but even without, total control and system overwrites are definitely possible... -

I actually held out on the idea that maybe Trump wasn't really directly working with Putin. Since so much of what he's done also benefits our Oil (and apparently Coal?) overlords. I really did try and hold out that he's just doing this to be a (huge political) asshole. I'm willing to say a ton of money goes into health care. Probably because those providers and middle men are making out like literal oil barons. I'm willing to be flexible on gun shit. Even if I wonder what the hell happened to the ATF in all of this, and who might have systematically undermined them to help create the crises we are now experiencing... But suggesting that an antagonistic country being investigated should send their agents to sort this out? Holy hell is this country sliding down a crapper fast. edit: Maybe I exaggerate. After all, why would I have expected an investigation into a majority president to go anywhere? ... -

Yeah. I don't think most people bother to remember when their own party acts like shit heads. That there is very unhelpful. I at least try to listen to complaints from others... But damn. This brings me back to those days. Had he even done anything yet? -

Its easier if you invest time and substantial references and resources. Its easier to appeal emotionally but I see far too much rationalization of that. The latest? These border stories are just to cover up the Muller investigation being biased. As if our Senate and Congress reviewing it aren't the ones with the most bias here..... -

I definitely want to see hard information like this. I live in az and I run into way too many people who compare trump and Obama... Or think things like the Muller investigation is bunk... Or feel his policies are good somehow. I need me hard data -

You have my sympathies, even so. Politics has become far too pandering of the outright crazies. -

I find that interesting. Before the 2016 elections, all the way back when Trump was at the head of the push for the Republican party, I felt like I was going to see a combination of Snyder and Nixon if he ever got into office; not that I ever believed it was possible. Party loyalty is apparently incredibly powerful... Massive inexperience and (possibly unwitting) incompetence, combined with ruthless self interest. I never even considered the (primary) Nixon scandals, just the ruthless corruption and hunger for power. -
