  1. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares

That kind of thing is a fifth of the fanfic out there. My Little Warhammer Inquisitor. Ponycraft. Fallout: Equestria' date=' Predator Versus Pinkie. Not kidding.[/quote']

Well, that last one was done as a bit of a joke. And the Draka might not do so well against the ponies, given the kind if powers they possess (and that's not even getting into, 'What if Celestia and Luna cut loose on them? What about the dragons we've seen, if they decided to fight the Draka?').

Of course, for some people, seeing S.M. Stirling's Villain Sues get their flanks kicked by a bunch of pastel-colored little ponies might be just what the doctor ordered.

  2. Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic HERO

Theres a movie about that, right?

Rise of the Planet of the Ponies?

If not, there should be. I personally find it much easier to accept the ponies overwhelming humanity when they have what are essentially incarnate goddesses like Celestia and Luna on their side, than a bunch of stick-swinging chimps against helicopter gunships.

EDIT: I just looked at that second trailer, the live action one, and I have only one question: what lunatic put that thing together??

  3. Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic HERO

Which reminds me not to ask myself how Rarity (a tailor/fashion designer) stays in business in a society where hardly anybody needs clothes.

I imagine the ponies wear them more for decoration than anything. Though when on long trips saddlebags would be very useful.

Or of course you can go with the fan theory that Equestria is Earth "After Man", and the ponies were originally created as toys/fancy pets for humanity, which explains all the odd references and schizo tech we see in the show. And as to what happened to the humans, well, how do you think Celestia discovered that she can send creatures to the moon?

  4. Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic HERO

So' date=' purely out of curiosity, over at DA and other Art sites the ponies are pretty popular...but they are occasionally drawn as humans/humanoids...does that happen in the show? Or are the artists merely projecting?[/quote']

Well, they might do it in season 2, but I don't expect it. Mostly it's done just as an excuse to give the ponies breasts a more humanlike form.

    Samurai Applejack

I've read that fanfic! Samurai Jack meets My Little Ponies; and believe it or not, it actually read like a good SJ episode. It also explained away Nightmare Moon as being a fragment of Aku, which worked surprisingly well.

    Wrestlemania in Wonderland

  6. Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic HERO

I've seen that map before, and it uses some fanfic references folks might not know (like Gildedale from "It's A Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door"; basically a Pony Rohan, complete with armored cavalry)... but all in all it's one great map!

I have read some professionally done books and game supplements that I wish could have sported such work.

  7. Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Based on the IMDB list' date=' I can only presume you're talking about [i']Coonskin[/i], which is apparently a satire on race relations as well as re-telling of various Br'er Rabbit et al stories.

Well, here's what information Tv Tropes has on it if you think that site is trustworthy: Coonskin

According to what they say, the film got tanked due to Al Sharpton and CORE.

  8. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares

Just before posting the name, I thought I'd google it and see what I might find. I found this:

    attachment.php?attachmentid=39590&d=1312602709

    My Little Powerpuff Ponies

Cute! But what about the other three, or are they villains in this setting? Which would make them, what, AJ as Fuzzy Lumpkin ("GIT OFFA MAH FARM!"), Rarity as Sedusa or Princess, and Pinkie as, I don't know, Mojo Jojo?

  9. Re: THE BOOK OF THE EMPRESS -- What Do *You* Want To See?

Hmm, perhaps because Steve Long mentioned it half a dozen times in this thread alone that she does use extreme surveilance and that she does uses extreme propaganda?

She is saving us from our self (such great is her benevolence), that she needs to infrigne on our rights to make certain it works. And a billion happy galaxies where it works can't be wrong, right?

Hmm, I can almost see the Empress behaving somewhat like the God-Emperor and the Imperium in Warhammer 40K. Follow the rules and you'll be okay, mostly; but when enough of you step out of line your world becomes the latest entry on the top-rated holovision show "Worlds We Blew Up Real Good This Week". Why trifle over the death of a few billion ungrateful rebels when you have a populace counted in the high trillions?

  10. Re: THE BOOK OF THE EMPRESS -- What Do *You* Want To See?

I now I have the picture of Mechanon trying to become president. "Vote Mechanon. Vote destruction of your race."

Voting for the lesser evil doesn't work. Why not try voting for the greater evil?

I'd rather vote for the dark horse candidate.

"Vote destruction of your race? Bah! Accept eternal darkness now!"

Someone manages to make Darth Vader more frightening.

Not bad but it'd work better with either Rarity or Twilight Sparkle, as they're unicorns and already have telekinesis. Go and watch the MLP episode "Suited for Success" and tell me it doesn't look at some points like Rarity wishes she could choke ponies with her mind.

"What is wrong, Rainbow Dash? Is it the material? The cut? The color?"

"Naw, it just needs to be... cooler. Make it 20% cooler, and..." *Rarity gives her a death glare, and Dashy's voice trails off in a gasping sputter as she doubles over choking*

"I find your lack of taste disturbing."

  12. Re: THE BOOK OF THE EMPRESS -- What Do *You* Want To See?

Oh! Another thing I'd like to see is a piece of artwork depicting the sort of propaganda one might run across in her empire. Would it be like Maoist China' date=' with murals and posters of the Empress everywhere?[/quote']

I double this. It sounds like it'd make for 1-2 great pieces of art.

  13. Re: "We're just here to help -- honest!"

I screeched to a halt when the story claimed that the convertee immediately lost his desire for fame upon becoming a pony-thing. Has this guy ever watched any episode featuring Rarity or Rainbow Dash? Much less Trixie? The ponies aren't very violent but they have a thorough capacity to be snobs, glory hounds, liars and just plain mean-spirited.

Yeah, that's one of the (many, many) problems I have with the story and its shared universe. The ponies are somewhat ethically and morally better than humans, or maybe just less violent as you say, but they are not incarnate angels.

And another "thank you" to everyone responding here.

  14. Re: "We're just here to help -- honest!"

Out of curiosity' date=' what was this inspired by?[/quote']

A series of stories called "The Conversion Bureau" on Equestria Daily (I know, I'm sorry). Some were well done, some seem like nothing more than a place for the author to brag about their misanthropy.

But the basic idea, "alien beings/nonhumans offer to save humans at the price of all human culture, history, technology by transforming them into another species" sounded to me like a very cool idea if handled properly.

  15. Re: THE BOOK OF THE EMPRESS -- What Do *You* Want To See?

Her action figures -- it's a product line with hundreds of individual items -- sell quite well. Collecting them is a common hobby in many parts of the Empire, and a complete collection is worth (in Earth terms) tens of thousands of dollars. At "V'han-Con" every year, there's a special competition for presentation of collections, in which the Empress herself does the judging and awards the prizes.

Better yet, many of the action figures come with built-in mini-computers and cameras. They keep watch all around themselves and are able to report illegal or seditious behavior immediately, thus ensuring that children learn proper behavior from an early age! :)

See' date=' now, THIS belongs in the book![/quote']

So, what, they sell the "My Little Empress: Fanatical Loyalty is Magic" toys in the empire?
