  1. I just purchased a buttload of HERO stuff online, and whilst I await the delivery of my precious cargo, I'd like to see in advance how sleek and flexible the HERO system is! I'd really appreciate it if a HERO fan could stat up both the God-Emperor Leto II (from the novel God Emperor of Dune), and the ever-popular Neo (from the Matrix trilogy). --thanks guys! I'm really psyched about HERO! NB
  2. Hello! I just ordered a bunch of HERO 5th edition stuff, and while I joyously await actually getting my stuff, I'd like to see in advance how flexible the system is! Could someone do me a huge favor and stat up the follow superheroes and villains, to show me how flexible and adaptive the HERO system is: Doomsday (the Superman villain, of course!), the Flash (any incarnation), Green Lantern (any incarnation, really), Supreme (the Image comics quasi-omnipotent "hero"), and Warlock (from the New Mutants). --thank you, I'm really looking forward to getting my rulebook and supplements NB
  3. After a long gaming journey lasting over ten years, I have at last purchased a copy of HERO 5th edition. For ten years, I've heard of HERO and it's ancestor, Champions, but have never really gotten into either. I've played a ton of games, but never actually got around to this game system. A while back, I planned on buying HERO 5th; many of you might remember me popping onto these boards, asking a bunch of questions, and then disappearing off the face of the forum. I didn't buy HERO then; so many other games caught my attention. Then, two days ago, I went to my local FLGS, and saw a sale on HERO merchandise. Still waffling on the issue, I told the store owner to hold them for me 'till Monday. Well, as the hours ticked by, my growing excitement over HERO precluded me from waiting. I finally broke down and purchased online the following books: HERO 5th, Star HERO, Fantasy HERO, Ninja HERO, the newest edition of Champions, and two Champions sourcebooks: Champions Universe, and Millenium City. Yes, I should have waited to get the books at discount. But to heck with waiting! As jazzed up as I am, it'll be worth the extra cost! --better late than never, as it is commonly quoted NB
  4. Hello from RPG.net! I post over there as "Nero's Boot" (same as here LOL), and after reading the billionth pro-HERO thread over there, I decided to come over here and check your game out! At this point, I'm sold on the game. However, I have some questions before I dip into my wallet and buy the core rulebook. So what better place to ask than here, a board frequented by HERO fanatics! 1) Other than the genres mentioned on this site (supers, sci-fi, and fantasy), are there any other genres HERO does well? Would the system handle a mecha-based campaign easily? Could it do spaghetti Westerns? Could it do horror? 2) How intuitive is the HERO system? Is it easy to learn, or will I have to put some effort into absorbing it? 3) How "realistic" would you say HERO is? Is it more Four Colors and high-powered like Aberrant and Exalted, or is it more low-powered and gritty, like Godlike or AFMBE? Or is it capable of scaling between the two extremes? Thank you for your time in this post. At some point next month, I'll be purchasing the HERO main rulebook, along with a few sourcebooks. I love well-put-together "generic" systems, and am looking forward to this purchase. --thank you for any answers NB
