Re: What Have You Watched Recently?
Managed to watch my rental of Slayer this afternoon. It's a modern-day vampire movie set in South America. Plenty of blood and gore, but only one sex scene (and it was a dream sequence too!)

Re: Order of the Stick
Correct, but isn't Implosion- which we've seen Redcloak casting when he crushed the Resistance- a 9th-level spell?

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?
The All-Star Superman DVD. Suprisingly good adaptation of the Grant Morrison/Frank Quitely series, especially considering it was only 73 minutes long.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?
The new Avengers cartoon. To be precise, the six episode DVD Captain America Reborn.
Obviously the writers have actually read some Marvel comics, as the first supervillain we see is the obscure Mandrill. The episodes actually serve well as an introduction to the Avengers, as they not only introduce Avengers mansion and the Quinjets, but the Avengers also find and revive Captain America, much like the comics, though in the cartoon, it's an angry Hulk that frees Cap ,not Namor). We get a lot of classic villains here-Baron Strucker & Hydra,Baron Zemo, Arnim Zola,The Enchantress & the Executioner, The Grim Reaper,Klaw, The Leader plus other gamma-powered villains,Modok,The Man-Ape plus Simon Williams is transformed into Wonder Man. We also get Black Panther and Hawkeye joining the Avengers!

I can recommend The Moon Maze Game by Larry Niven and Stephen Barnes. Set on the Moon in 2085 A.D. it's the story of the first LARP on the Moon, and how it's hijacked by kidnappers. A worthy addition to the Dream Park universe.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?
Finally got a chance to watch my new DVD of the original "The Thing from Another World". Still a great movie, and from what I can remember, far better than the remake. Which wasn't by all accounts a particularly accurate adaptation of the original short story either. For a start the chase between the Norwegian and the not-dog didn't occur in the original novella.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?
Aside from TV, the last thing I watched was Wallace & Gromit:Curse of the Were-Rabbit. I needed to watch something funny after watching Casshern Sins, the 2008 reboot of Casshern.

I recently finished Unnatural Issue, the latest in Mercedes Lackey Elemental Masters series. Despite the misleading title, the true villain of the series is Richard Whitestone, who is probably the worst father ever. Blaming his only child for the death of her mother in childbirth, he has become a mighty necromancer, who plans to bring his wife back to life by transferring her soul into his daughter's body. The rest of the book details Susanne's attempts to evade him with the help of the other Elemental Masters, her nursing services in France during W.W. I. , a final battle in London between the two Earth Mages, and Susanne finally finding true love.

I just finished The Coming of The Terraphiles by Michael Moorcock. It's an Eleventh Doctor story, but I personally didn't like it as much as I thought I would - I don't think it's one of Moorcock's better works. Well worth reading, but it didn't feel like a Doctor Who story to me.

Watched my DVD of Godzilla, King of the Monsters again. Still a great movie, though still inferior to the Japanese original (also on the same DVD).

The Shadow of Reichenbach Falls by John R.King. It's a well-written pastiche involving Thomas Carnacki, before he became known as the Ghost Finder, and an amnesiac Sherlock Holmes, who barely survived those deadly falls. Despite the various blurbs, this is really Carnacki's adventure, as for most of the novel Holmes is either suffering from amnesia or is possessed by the same Undying Evil that possessed Jack The Ripper and then his killer James Moriarty.(Yes,THAT Moriarty. This book is as much an origin for Moriarty the crime boss as it is for Carnacki.) Highly recommended, despite the liberties it takes with Holmesian canon.

The last fantasy book I've finished reading was the hardback of Intrigues, the second book in the Valdemar: Collegium Chronicles by Mercedes Lackey. Set between Vanyel's era and Elspeth's time, this series focuses on the story of Mags, an abused orphan who becomes a Herald. Lackey is back on form here, as Mags not only has problems adapting to Collegium life, and his friends problems, but also has to deal with foreign spies, and a dire prophecy by the ForeSeers that seems to implicate Mags in a horrific future crime.

I read a book by Jules Verne titled The Castle of Transylvania. After checking with the Fantastic Fiction website, I've become convinced that the real title is The Castle of the Carpathians. To put it simply, despite the misleading blurb, it's actually a Gothic Horror tale, of the sort where everything ultimately has a rational explanation.
(What else would you expect from a Jules Verne story, anyway?)

I agree- and I can only figure its racism and homophobia that's the reason why Hong Kong hasn't filmed any og Kylie Chan's Wudang novels.
