Re: The cranky thread
It makes a difference if the motor/engine is expecting diesel and you put in petrol (vice versa). And it is the length of time + the speed + not knowing where I'm going (the unknown) which is causing the worry/lack of confidence/dread.
I made it back.

Re: The Last Word
SO are you a black belt? And congrats on the coaching gig. Handling a beginners class of a martial art is a compliment.Pretty good, thanks for asking, apart from my feet giving up on me . . . Planning on grading to 1 Kyu in december, and to 1 Dan sometime before summer. I coach assisted at sunday's noob session, and head coach sez he'd like me and Maja to handle next season's noobs on our own.Plus, I've got some neat bruises.
What season are you in at the moment, winter or autumn?

Re: The cranky thread
It makes a difference if the motor/engine is expecting diesel and you put in petrol (vice versa).Broke down? Wrong fuel shouldn't really break the car so much as require that you siphon it out and put right fuel in. Not to say that it's impossible, though.Highway driving is easy. Fast, yes, but it's all in a straight line. Lane changes are iffy but if you can look over your shoulder without reflexively turning the wheel in the process, you should be fine.
And it is the length of time + the speed + not knowing where I'm going (the unknown) which is causing the worry/lack of confidence/dread.

Re: The cranky thread
Not really a cranky post, but a scarey/dreaded one.
I have to drive my dad out of town on the highway for over one hour to a place called Berry Springs. I've only ever driven there once, and it is the furtherest place I've driven too. All my other driving has been residential. I'm not looking forward to it. Why? My mum was taking the grandkids to our holiday home and put the wrong fuel in the car, consequently, unsurprisedly, it broke down. Now dad & I have to pick it up and bring it home.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
I'd do it anyway and in reply wear a t-shirt that says "pwn students".Memo to nonscience students:You probably hope that your instructor does not take literally your t-shirt that says "pwn n00bs" that you've worn to the first session of the lab course. The amusement he gains from this is on more levels than you want to think about.
Make them pay.

Re: Complicate the Person Above
Death Tribble has a real life write-up in Monte Cook's new World of Darkness: He is a 13th level Burning Eyes Dire Hedgehog of Dark Desire, Fear and Loathing. That is a very special prestige class only accessible if you have already finished all Werewolf, Vampire and Mage classes - making him the only 1,641st level character in the book.
Roter Baron didn't see the errata meaning that Death Tribble is a -1,641th level character.
