Use The Man by Megadeth from Cryptic Writings
Just one shot to say goodbye
One last taste to mourn and cry
Scores and shoots, the lights go dim
Just one shot to do him in
He hangs his head and wonders why
Why the monkey only lies
But pay the pauper, he did choose
He hung his head inside the noose

Rocks On The Road by Jethro Tull from Catfish Rising
There's a black cat down on the quayside
Ship's lights, green eyes glowing in the dark
Two young cops handing out a beating
Know how to hurt and leave no mark
Down in the half-lit bar of the hotel
There's a call for the last round of the day
Push back the stool, take that elevator ride
Fall in bed and kick my shoes away
Rocks on the road

Re: Megamovement DCV errata ?
Why do you bother posting in this thread ? That's beyond my comprehension' date=' lol.[/quote']Because it was such a basic reasoning error the specifics weren'T important. When somebody says "only this way of thinking about it is right" they will be wrong 100% of the time. That's the nature of Hero whether you're talking about Megascale movement or anything else.

Re: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Urban Fantasy Campaign Fodder?
I would recommend checking out The Everlasting. It's a setting created by a former White Wolf author named Stephen Brown. It's like WOD minus the angst and 'our NPCs Pwn your PCs' White Wolf mentality. It's nominally a complete game, but really more of a setting with some suggestions for rules thrown in out of necessity. I found those rules to be pretty much unplayable, but easy to ignore. One of the character types you can play is a Daeva, which is a sort of demigod with a connection to some pantheon.
The Book Of The Light has details about Daeva backgrounds, abilities and pantheoons. There's some fluff related to the really horrible system it includes (or at least did in the previous edition which I own) but overall it was quite easy to write up in Hero. You can get it in
I haven't read the Olympians books, but may give them a look since my 11 year old son is a big fan and owns them all.

Re: Megamovement DCV errata ?
What? Movement speed absolutely has specific game effects - velocity-based DCV for instance. And if there were game balance issues with Megascale (which is much cheaper than buying lots of NCM), why would Megamovement give you a higher DCV?
I take it you didn't bother reading my entire post either. Asking me what the possible issues are will do you no good because I really haven't used Megascale. I was merely commenting on your point that it can only make sense if the 2 are the same. That is patently false. If you want to know what balance issues Steve Long feels there might be you'll have to read his mind because he won't discuss design decisions. Asking me after I've repeatedly said I don't use it will get you nowhere. But feel free to beat your head against that wall all you'd like.

Re: Megamovement DCV errata ?
What are those mysterious game balance reasons ?Did you stop reading when you got to that part?
I'll leave any discussion of whether there is' date=' in fact, a game balance issue for people with experience using Megascale. I haven't had a need for it and therefore don't have an informed opinion.[/quote'] -
Re: Megamovement DCV errata ?
I really can't see how it would make sense. We're not talking about moving at normal speed vs moving at megaspeed - we're talking about moving at 12km/phase because you bought megascale running, vs moving at 12km/phase because you bought a huge non-combat multiplier for your running. One is not faster than the other, and I can see no reason one would have a different DCV result. It would be like saying that +30 STR from Growth gave you a different lifting capacity than +30 STR from Aid.
Not really. STR is a construct of the rules with specific game effects. Speed isn't. While I understand your reasoning, and even agree that it makes sense to do it the way you suggest, that doesn't invalidate making them different for game balance reasons. I'll leave any discussion of whether there is, in fact, a game balance issue for people with experience using Megascale. I haven't had a need for it and therefore don't have an informed opinion.

Re: Fantasy or Pulp?
I think the issue is that I don't like fantasy. Its actually a bit of an epiphany.
I like biblical heroes, folk heroes, and pulpy heroes with sharp, pointy things.
None of those things fall within the realm of the fantasy genre as its understood.
I grew up on Moses, Gideon, Dvora, Sampson, Ehud, King David, Robin Hood, King Arthur, Tarzan, and Zorro.
Not to mention a steady diet of american frontier and old west folk heroes.
I didn't really get introduced to fantasy literature until after I started gaming - and to be honest never got into it.
I enjoy the early planetary romance and sword and sorcery characters to some extent, but its more of an acquired taste.
The problem is: a lot of the reading I do isn't strictly pulp, either.
The boards have "other genres" as a slush category.
I guess that's where I'll do most of my posting.
Had I replied earlier in this thread I would have answered fantasy. But this post in particular has made me do a lot of thinking about my own fantasy game. Although I started reading fantasy before I began gaming, my fondest recollections are still of the pulpier characters and stories like Tarzan, Zorro and Robin Hood. My version of fantasy tends to focus on my favorite elements of those stories and is perhaps more pulp than anything else.
So rather than trying to convince you that the game you describe is fantasy I'll just thank you for sharing your personal revelation. It's given me a lot to think about when it comes to my own game.

Re: Dice-roll modifiers in HERO & GURPS
It's been a long time since I played GURPS but I seem to recall that skills tended to start at a higher level than in Hero and most people (at least the ones I played with) were likely to put just half a point to a point in each one. From that POV it makes sense to use big modifiers to reward players for actually putting more points into skills they want their characters to be really good at.

Re: Why no comprehensive list for adders/limitations?
General Power Type Modifiers are with the Power Type DescriptionSpecific Power Modifiers are with the Specific Powers
Universal Modifiers are together.
The only addition you could possibly make to such a logical organization is a table with page references. Maybe I'll add something like that to the Master Index when I get it closer to done. But I think it makes sense.
I have to disagree. Most people I know would assume all the modifiers to be located in Modifiers section unless they are only relevant for one Power, in which case they should be in the Power description. No one I know uses the Power Type section for character generation or other Power writeups, which is primarily what Limitation listings are used for. The only logical way to organize them IMO is to put them where people will be looking for them.

My Son: There will be a roaming band there too
My Daughter: If you can catch them
Me: They can't run that fast carrying band instruments
