I hope everyone is having a wonderful day, 17 years later

it's quite a strange thought to think of how life and issues were like back in the early '00s, I was 10 when this was the last post.

but do you by chance still have still have this pdf file, I am quite interested, even after all these years.

Sorry I do not have it anymore. Here is a website that might help you.

  2. I would recommend trying DC Universe Online for any Champions (Hero System) player. It is called free to play but it really free to try. You can get about a third of the way to the maximum "level" for free. After that you have to pay. In short, the game itself is one half D&D and one half Hero System. I could give a longer description if people are interested.

  3. Eagle Eye on his character sheet in 5th rev has +4 Damage Classes for 16 points and Green Dragon also has +4 Damage Classes for 16 points. Is this HtH attack with the mandatory -1/2 limination? It seems you also gave it a +1/4 advantage. Is this a 1/2 End advantage? On both characters it appears the damage class is not adding any extra end to the martial arts maneuver. Should it be a 0 end advantage for the cost of + 1/2 advantage? Thus making the +4 Damage Classes be worth 20 points?

  4. Re: Jedi Mind Tricks

You could also take this as "Mind Control' date=' RSR Presence, Limited Effect: cannot make target do things they are Violently opposed to". It would be inadvisable to take this as a straight "cannot exceed EGO+30" because there are modifiers (such as +10 for not remembering what happened or +20 for thinking they were natural) that you'll probably want to use, and if you factored those into the equation you could do EGO+30 if you were willing to give up the "target forgets or thinks it was natural" part.[/quote']

That is another good idea. I am thinking however the Jedi Mind Trick in the movies is a PRE drain or EGO drain because the jedi never did the trick in combat. If it was mind control, they could use on the stormtrooper and make them attack each other.

  5. Re: Jedi Mind Tricks

As a matter of play balance' date=' I would say you can try to drain only once. After that, you have to make your rolls against whatever PRE/EGO the person has left. A cumulative Drain on this type of power would just be too easy to abuse. Also note that doing something like this would have limits that Mind Control wouldn't. You can take all of someone's PRE you want, but you still can't make them do things against their nature(they'll just blubber away instead). I'd say draining their EGO would do the same thing. Remember, you're still basically trying to talk someone into doing something with Persuasion. You can't make someone do something totally against their nature with a skill roll. As in "Sorry, I don't care how much you made your Seduction roll by, the hot nun is not going to check into a motel with you." Because of this, you may want to go ahead and buy Mind Control because with enough Mind Control you CAN force someone to do something totally against their nature. So I guess it depends on how powerful of a "mind trick" you want to play.[/quote']

Basicly, I wanted the Jedi Mind Trick to enhance my pre base skills. The exampes I have in mind is the time when Obi-wan talk to the stromtrooper and when Qui-Gon Jinn talked to Watto. I do not wanted to use it make people jump off clicks and/or kill themselves. Also, I do not wanted to work on hot nuns either. However, if my character has a high COM and a high PRE then I think it should work on the hot nurse.

  6. Re: Jedi Mind Tricks

unless the target will be suceptable to anyone's suggestion, (not sure if Jedi Mind Trick would work this way, but my guess would be no) you will want a limitation that the drain effect is only vs attacks from the caster.

also, as i don't recall ever hearing Bob (in this case Stromtrooper #2) saying "You idoit, you're just repeating what the old guy is saying". i would make the attack an area effect.

That is a good point! It should be area affect and have the limitation. Another question I have is this: if my character does a persuasion skill attempt without the Jedi trick and fails, can he do another persuasion skill attempt with the Jedi mind trick and try a second time. I am thinking about the time in the first prequel when Qui-Gon Jinn tried to buy parts from Watto. If my character can drain more than once eventually the ego or pre would go down to zero.

  7. I thinking about a character that has powers like the jedi Mind trick. Instead of buying mind control, the character could buy ego drain or pre drain. Then he could use pre based skills like persuasion or interrogation on the target. Combining this power with a high pre, the character would make his roll most of the time. Is this a (legal/good) idea?

  8. Re: Hunting Disadvantage

It could also be a Social Limitation if, instead of wanting to hunt the target(s), the character is required to by his job, position, blackmail, or whatever.

I love the new Social Limitation Disadvantage.

Thanks for the input. The situation of my character is that he is an alien cop stuck on Earth of a superhero campaign. He has a few escape criminals that he has to track down to capture/kill. They obvious do not want to be capture so they avoid him so this makes my character is the hunter. Since he stuck on Earth, he will not spend every moment that he is awake hunting the criminals. If a clue comes up on the whereabouts of a criminal he will pursue it. What kind of disadvantage is that and how many points is that?

  9. Re: Hunting Disadvantage

I think Champions III (pre-Fourth Edition HERO) introduced the "Hunter" Disadvantage. IIRC the Fourth Edition rulebook recommended handling it as a Psychological Limitation rather than its own distinct Disad.

From the magnificent online Master List of Limitations, you can scroll down to a link to an example of the Psych Lim approach: "Hunts (Person or Group)".

    Thanks for the info

  10. I am making my first character in a very long time. I guess since the 3rd edition rules. My character is the hunter not the hunted. I could have sworn that hunting was a disadvantage. I look in the 5th edition book and I could not find it. Then I looked in the 4th edition book and it was not there also. I swear I read it somewhere. Was it somewhere in a supplement? Or did I just dream it? By the way, how would you do hunting as a disadvantage?

  11. Re: Chronicles of Gor

First, they imported a lot of fauna. Humans were just another life form. Probably some kind of ecological experimentation. I think it was imlied they had moved their whole planet in from another solar system.

    As for keeping the tech level low;

first, it's low only in certain aspects. Some Goreans do apparently know and use electricity, for example, and their healers can even halt the aging process. The average civilized Gorean is effectively immortal, in the sense of never aging.

second, where it's restricted, it keeps Humans (and Kurii, the other sentient species around) from becoming a threat.

third, they don't want Humans to develop an industrial society with the attendent pollution and muck up their ecology. Given their concern with ecology in fact, the reason for importing fauna might have been an attempt to rebalance an ecology they had already ruined, thus learning the hard way how important it is.

  12. Re: Chronicles of Gor

I read a couple of the books a very long time ago. I always wonder about the Priest Kings. Why did they take humans from Earth and place them in Gor in the first place? And why did they force the humans to stay at a low tech level? Was this ever explain?

    Dallas Gamestore Problems

Has anyone in the Dallas and Lewisville Texas areas heard anything about fans petitioning the stores listed here - Borders, Barnes & Noble, Millions, Discount Books, and Comics, Games, & Books - to stop selling all RPG books besides Hero System books?

There is an SAS fan on the GOO boards who swears there is a Hero Games/Hero fans conspiracy to have all those stores stop selling any books but Hero System books. The person also says the Hero System fans and store owners bodily throw out people who want to discuss or write characters for other game systems in the store.

So once again for all you Dallas area people, how much is this person's statement is true, and how much of it is just drug enduced?

    can you believe that?

  14. I have read several books on guns. None of them agree of what the formula should be. Some says it should be momentum, while others say it should be energy. Some say the momentum or area should be divided by area because it will go in deeper. However, others say it should be multiply by area, because the bullet will make a wider hole.

There is no agreement it real life either. For example, some people say that the M16 is a better gun than the AK-47, while other people say that the opposite is true. The debate can go on and on. Another example is the fact there is a new bullet for pistols called the 10mm. It was made because some people think that the 9mm is not wide enough. The argument is that it will make a wider hole.

So what does this all means? You should pick a formula that is easy because it is only a game.

As for which formula, I totally agree with Toadmaster

I use muzzle energy myself and have found I get results very close to those in the earlier published HERO products. IIRC my table goes something like this

    109J > DC1

    110-219 DC2

    220-439 DC3 etc

Momentium is also an option as mentioned above, I don't like it as much as ME because I find it favors pistols compared to rifles. Momentium favors heavy bullets, which in turn favors pistols over rifles as pistols tend to have heavier bullets. However this is argued with real guns as well so it is a matter of finding which formula gives you the results you prefer.

Another point I want to make is that you should use energy instead of momentium because energy is conserve. It is neither created or destroyed.

  15. I used Acrobat reader version 5.1.0 9/17/2002 on Windows 2000. The computer is a different machine than the one that have the full version. When I press the button on the toolbar with a printer on it, the exact same dialog appears.

I can only say is be sure you have the latest version of reader.

Also, I have acrobat reader on a linux machine. The print dialog looks different. but it the options to turn off the expand or shrink functions were available.

If you are still having problems, try this. When you press the print button, press the alt and prt screen buttons at the same time. That will copy a picture of the print dialog to the clip board. Then paste it in a graphic program. Paint will work. Attach it to the forums and let me see it.

  16. Syberdwarf2 says

I like the 1" hex maps that I've seen so far. However, my problem is that I need to have the hexes go completely to the edge. I for one don't have money to shell out for a large map sheet. I'd rather save my money for the books/supplements.

My goal is to have standard sheets ( 8.5" by 11") with hexes all the way to edge, that I can either run lots of copies of, or maybe just a few laminated copies that can be added together end to end.

anybody have anything that could help?

I am confused. Is this not what you wanted?

Special note: be sure and turn off the expand or shrink options when you print out the pdf. If you do that, you will get perfect hexes.
