  1. Re: Completely Undetectable

Doesn't the GM have discretion to bypass player powers every now and again' date=' without giving them extra Disadd points, if it makes a good story? For example, Heatwave, Master of Fire, uses nothing but fiery blasts to fight crime... but what happens when he runs up against the Mighty Molten Men, who are effectively immune to heat and fire? Would you as Heatwave's player feel cheated or frustrated because you couldn't melt the Molten Men?[/quote']Speaking from experience, I say that's a load. There aren't any true absolutes in the game system. You can't be completely immune to any sfx because there are always builds to get around it.

Your examples are not congruent with the Skrulls example. If you have a mentalist fight a robot, that's one thing; it happens.

However, if you have "Evil Army" go up against the Champions and each one has:

Difficult to Dispel on their Electrical Powers

    Invisibility to Infrared

    Lack of Weakness

Rigid Armor or PD Force Field

    Flash Defense

    Hardened Defenses

    Self-Contained Breathing

    Power Defense

    Mental Defense

Then each one has effectively bypassed the Champions' special abilities/attacks.

One person having this as a schtick is genre; an entire race? Cheese even calls it lame.

  2. Re: Death of the Jester

Juggernaut - She's employed by the city, so if the DA isn't calling the Shooter a criminal, she can't go after him. Though, she'd wonder why she's in yet another in a long line of WWYCD threads. ;)

Duo - Probably didn't even pay attention to the news. He's either trying to stay out of trouble (apparently a difficult task for him) or lusting over some female (and at 14, there's a lot of lust going on).

  3. Re: Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens

To crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentations of their women. :eg:

    What?

    Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannn!

Although Khan would enjoy the Conan quote' date=' if I remember right he said: "Do you know the Klingon proverb that says revenge is a dish best served cold? It is very cold in space."[/quote']Actually, that quote is originally from Genghis/Temujin Khan. Though my extended Khan was a Kirk/ST reference. ;)
  4. Re: Manned Giant Robot

Any one have any ideas that DO NOT include a Vehicle?

I guess the other question is, if I decide there's no other way but a vehicle, does anyone have one written up?

So, no vehicle suggestions, just a vehicle write-up?

The limitation for HUGE doesn't have to be ALL the time, just some of the time. And it can be included with "HUGE: +1 PER, -1 DCV while in Giant Robot." And both limitations of OiHID or OIF sound OK. On the one hand, OiHID makes sense unless he hops out of it in battle or for enough photo ops that people know what the person inside the robot looks like (even if he's wearing orange spandex and a mask). OIF makes it sound more appropriate for "He's KO'd, open up that machine and pry our prisoner out."

    "It'll take some time, boss."

"That's OK, he'll be out for a while."

As for build ups, I'd suggest the Ultimate Vehicle, which is the route I'd personally go, not that you want to hear that. :dyn

  5. Re: Ape Name Needed

I've working om a cyborg gorilla crimelord' date=' and need a good name. Any suggestions?[/quote']Are you looking for a name to match a theme or will you do your theme to match your name? What kind of crime lord is he? 30's Gangster? Modern mafia? KGB-ish? Thug? African background? Are his cyborg parts obvious (such as an entire arm and half a head)? Or are they just "flavor"?

Without really knowing what you're looking for, Simeon (a real name and it sounds like simian, though simian refers to apes and monkeys) is the only name I can think of that is broad enough to cover all areas without specifying one.

    Some borrowed names could be:

    Grodd

    Grape Ape

Big Man ("No one says the Big Man's real name, got it?") (Works best if he's introduced behind the scenes and it's not until the PCs first confrontation that they find out he's a gorilla.)

  6. Re: Entangle vs CON?

I'm working on a character that uses scorpion venom to paralize his opponents. I guessed it would best be represented by Entangle vs CON.

Here's the hitch:Is that an Advantage or a Limitation and what is it worth

Entangle vs Ego is +1.5 in advantages and -1 in limitations

Mental powers based on CON is is a -1 limitation

    Your thoughts?

My personal opinion is buying it with Based On ECV (+1), Takes No Damage From Physical Attacks (+1/4) would be enough. I don't know if I'd necessarily add in the (+1/4) Works Against CON, Not STR, since most PCs tend to have around 4d6+ of CON anyway. (This doesn't include other Advantages or Limitations such as not taking damage, affecting teleport, barriers, etc.)

As a GM, I wouldn't have a problem with it, depending on SFX. For example someone with electricity powers could use it as built, but someone who was using poison might have to have an additional limitation of causing Body first (and possibly linked to a killing attack).

  7. Re: Completely Undetectable

Guys like Bulldozer are too wrapped up in themselves to think about getting polarizing contacts (Flash Def) or anything like that.
Ah, but if you can encourage him to wear shades "because he'd look even cooler, if that were possible," and make him think it was his own idea, then it could work. :D (He'd still probably take them off every now and then so the ladies can look into his beautiful blues!)
  8. Re: Completely Undetectable

Without reading Marvel any more, but knowing of the junk they've published recently and in the past, the "completely undetectable" sounds like a liberal explanation of "cover our tracks" and "we can do what we want without explanation." In other words, it's a plot device that won't get exploited or identified until "it's time."

For HERO gaming, there aren't really any absolutes. No one can definitely be immune to x-type damage. For every defense, there's an offense that can get through.

As close to "Completely Undetectable" for Champions, I'd say Masquerade is the closest built that way. If a GM used Masquerade, then I wouldn't be upset. If a GM said "Oh, you rolled a (3 or 4) on your Skill Roll? Not enough" and used the "Completely Undetectable" as hand-waiving a build, then I'd be ticked. And I've been in a campaign where the GM had a special detachment of VIPER squad agents that were also equipped with belts of invisibility to the Sight, Sound, and Smell Group, along with 16- Stealth rolls.

  9. Re: Champions Universe: The Valley Of Night

    :jawdrop: Wow.

Man, your title of Obsessed Member really is accurate. Pardon my just glancing over it, but later tonight (when the wife and child are asleep, or at least the child) I'll read it all. Just like with Birth of RAVEN, it looks like you've produced a lot of in-depth material. One of these days I hope to match your... dedication.

Anyway, thanks for giving us all something to drool over. :o

  10. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

From my online game, the PCs are (still) fighting their evil duplicates:

Snow Leopard: (OOC) No pull, no finesse, full strength HKA on my evil twin.

Rolls 17, hits DCV 4 and misses

Snow Leopard: (OOC) I just did 19 BODY, 95 STUN, on empty air. As misses go, that was epic! Was there at least a thunderclap?

  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

    Don't you mean' date=' "Don't knock it 'til you've [u']tied[/u] it."?
That'd either be "Don't nock it 'til you've tied it" or "Don't knot it 'til you've tied it," depending on the situation. :o

    Today's quote:

The PCs are fighting evil (as in demonic evil) duplicates of themselves:

Jiggawatt (to Cheshire Cat): CC, if tey are rreal copies of us tey may haf our weaknezes as vell. I am suzeptable to metal attacks. Get der mezage to goot Hood to shoot der efil Yiggavatt with his metal arrows.

GM: CC is in the -40's unconscious zone, so he won't be able to respond.

  12. Re: Help naming a heroic NPC: Redeemer?

I've got an idea for an NPC whose ability is to jump into and possess bodies' date=' suppressing their minds while he's in control. Not the most heroic ability, but there's a rationale: His original body died while he was possessing someone, and he can't survive without a body, so [b']he has worked out an agreement[/b] [1] where he takes on the bodies of convicted supervillains, using their powers to fight crime and atone for the crimes of the bodies' owners. He normally won't use his own power at all [2], but if things get really hairy, his teammates can restrain the body he's using [3] before he attempts to possess the bigger baddy they're getting whupped by.
First, I have some questions that stand out that I would like clarified, then I'll get to the names. [1] Who did he make this agreement with? His teammates, the local government, and/or the villain he was possesing? [2] Isn't he constantly using his power if he's possessing a person at the time? [3] What's the plan on carrying this out? Does the fighting just "stop" and they restrain his physical form, then get up and say "let's continue"? It seems that if they're having a tough time with Villain X, there may not be enough people able to pull out of the fight to restrain him so he can posses Villain X. Additional questions: How is the NPC defeated? Is he KO'd if his body is KO'd? Can the NPC be trapped? Does the current villain body instantly become good by his actions, or is his mental state restored once the NPC hero leaves? If the criminal's outlook doesn't improve (and indeed, it may simply get worse after having this done), what repercussions will there be? How can somebody tell if the body is possessed by NPC hero as opposed to someone faking it?

    For other names, possibly:

    Rehabilitator

    Repo Man

Possessor (or for a bit of corniness, Professor Possessor)

    Specter (if British, Spectre)

    Redemption

    Purge

  13. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

GM: You are driving down an alley and there is a large dumpster blocking the entire alley.
Um, not to rain on your parade, but this post didn't seem very clear. Is there some reason you couldn't just put the car in reverse and drive away? Were you being chased?

Also, what was your decision? Did you ram the dumpster or do the two-wheel option? (Or something else?)

  14. Re: The Worst character in comics

What say we just throw all of Liefield's characters into a pile with Cable on top and then set the pile on fire?

    Works for me' date=' I'll bring marshmallows.[/quote']

:jawdrop: Are you crazy? :nonp: That stuff would be toxic! I'll bring my hazmat suit, thankyouverymuch.

  15. Re: The Worst character in comics

Thankfully' date=' he was so awful, the powers that be at DC came to their senses and he never saw print.[/quote']That sentence disqualifies him from what the original poster is looking for as he declared:

And I mean a regular ongoing character. Not someone who showed up for a few issues and was never seen again.
There were lots of stupid characters that were not ongoing.
  16. Hey guys,

In the online game I run, one of my players has Absorption (only vs Electricity) that goes to his Endurance Reserve. For the first time in the game, he was hit by an electrical attack.

The 12d6 attack did 10 Body 35 Stun. The PC has 32 ED + 18 only versus Electricity (Absorption Advantage), so he took no damage.

Prior to being hit, the PC has 7/100 End left. The phase he was hit he spent 2 END for his Force Field which brings him down to 5/100, but he says he gained back 3 from the Absorption giving him 8/100. To me, that seems low. My only guess (now that I've typed it here) is that he's doing 35 Stun - 32 Defenses = 3 Absorbed.

My thoughts are that he took no damage and absorbed 10 character points which transfers into END for his END reserve. So, if this is correct, do those 10 character points transfer to 20 End for his reserve (since that's how END works) or would it transfer as 100 points (filling him back up) (since End Reserve is 1 CP = 10 Points), or something else?

How would you rule on this?
