  1. Re: Your rules for sleeping?

In the last session of my DnD game, my character was running on low sleep...

There weren't any stigma attatched to my rolls, I was told to "role play it out."

It was lots of fun. :D Nobody knew what I was talking about. Except the cleric, who got kinda testy after three days with no sleep.

I didn't go into combat or anything--I'd hate to have seen what would have happened if I did... But lack of sleep is a fun twist.

  2. Re: All this evil without a Champion to oppose

    Hmm...

The real question to that is, what makes one holy?

Could a warpreist of Odin (the name for the religion has completely slipped my mind at the moment) banish the demon as easilly as a warrior for Christ?

The problem with demons is, it's easy to know who the bag guys are... Which ones are the good guys?

Er--that's just my take, though. :ugly: (%)

  3. Re: Scans

    Psst--look left!

A good many of the characters are put up as website art in a cycle to the left over there. If you want names for "That big pudgy godzilla-lookin' guy" or the "Big hairy cop" I'm sure people can help. :)

Or, was there someone specific you were looking for?

  4. Re: Subplots

Do you have an over-sized character? (Thing, Hulk, Hellboy) HAve him try to find a pair of shoes that fit. Seriously. That can't be easy...

Or, have a new arena be built--a superhero gladiatorial complex. All contestants are volunteers (or, rather, employees) but it's brutal and dangerous--and more than one "superhero" member has been seriously injured in the ring. Is it wrong to watch people brutalize each other? Id it when all parties are willing members of the show?

-What if a member is approached? Would they join?

-Or, how about one of the injured 'warriors' being fired for not following the rules (before injury) and thus losing his health insurance. What happens when his bigger, badder brother comes to get revenge? Can the heros stop the rampaging vigilante? Would they want to?

How about an alien invasion--on par with the "Brittish invasion?" Some alien planet is sending us all their pop-musicians because they're tired of the whiney, self-indulgent jerks. Only problem is, their music is terrible, and it's inciting riots everywhere! How do the heros solve this crisis?

Any of those any good? (%)

Edit--crap! Guess I wasn't paying attention, sorry. I don't know if any of those have been done in the comics... Usually, they jsut kill someone and have people deal with the loss. :;sigh:: so cliche...

  5. Re: Kitty ~ How to write

Um, just for the record--cats do eat less, but a missed meal is way more damaging to a cat than to a person. So, you could counter the LS:diminished eating with increased damage when doesn't eat?

I'd also take a psych lim of 'distractable,' or something. Cats track by motion, so it should be easy for Belle to be distracted by something she barely noticed out of the corner of her eye.

Ooh--what about a hunted: random little girl who wants a pet?

    "Ooh, mommy! Kitty!"

    Or, better yet, DNPC?

"Grace, don't you run out there in front of Grond!"

"But the kitty, mommy! The kitty!"

    heh heh heh... :eg:

  6. Re: Rage-Enhanced Strength

Hey' date=' gang: A recent "discussion" over on RPGnet brought up the sample "Rage Enhanced Strength" Power in [b']The Ultimate Brick[/b], and has prompted me to take another look at it. Not to give away too much publicly, but it uses Aid with the Continuous Advantage and Increased Maximum to allow for a gradual increase in STR (up to +60 in this case) that kicks in when the character is Enraged, and disappears when he ceases to be Enraged. It's essentially the same as the Power writeup for the Hulk that Darren Watts wrote for Game Trade Magazine last year. This has an Active Cost of 132 Points, and a Real Cost of 44. Iin the discussion it was brought up that simply buying +60 STR with No Figured Characteristics would cost 40 Real Points, and it would be available all the time. These costs seem to be out of line with the benefit you get.

With all due respect for Steve Long and Darren Watts who created Rage Enhanced Strength, IMHO they chose an inappropriate Power to build it. The Power for this effect should be the alternate form of Aid, "Succor." Succor has half the Base Cost of normal Aid, and all benefit from it ceases when a character stops paying END for it. Normally it can only add the maximum you could roll on the dice to a Characteristic, but according to the FAQ if you apply the Continuous Advantage to it it will keep adding points as long as it runs, with no upper limit and no need to keep taking Attack Actions on your Phases. Of course, you can always add a Custom Limitation to give it a set maximum.

So, basing this on the example of the Ultimate Brick Power: 2d6 Succor to Strength (10 Base Points), Continuous (+1), 0 END Cost (+1/2), Trigger (when Enraged: +1/4); No Conscious Control (-1), Self Only (-1/2), Maximum 60 Points Gained (let's be conservative and call it -1/4). Active Points 27, Real Points 10.

Mind you, the benefits of Succor written this way would also be lost if the character was Stunned (since the Power would shut down), and you might not want the character to lose all his accumulated Strength in those circumstances. In that case I would suggest adding Persistant, and a Custom Lim that the Power shuts down when the character stops being Enraged. Again I'll be conservative and call that last one -1/4. Active Points 32, Real Points 11.

    Opinions? Anything I missed?

(BTW even assuming my assumptions are supportable, I don't blame Steve and Darren for making the choice they did; it's easy to forget that the permutations of the 5E rules are new to them, too.) ;)

Call me crazy--but didn't the OTHER example of that, from that other book (can I say which one without infringing copyrights?) use succor instead of straight aid?

I'd check, but I can't find my copy of what is THE most helpful book for any Champions campaign EVER! ...someone will bleed for this! (probably me, though.)

  7. Re: Tentacles...

    Well, personally...

I'd buy the tentacles as Extra Limbs, so you can have them do stuff while your hands are doing other stuff--like, grab someone while picking up a big rock, and then having the two meet all friendly like. :D

And, I'd go with grappling skills instead of entangles because... I like grappling MAs. :) It seems cooler to me to grab someone ("Now I CRUSH you!") rather than... just hold them. Er--that didn't make much sense.

It's like, you could buy a throwing knife as an RKA... But that's not really what it is. It's a ranged HKA.

The grappling MA seems to fit better--you can do whatever, but I think it would be more fun to play as a grapple.

  8. Re: We Need More....CHAINSAWS!!!!

    Hey, thanks for reminding me!

I was just whining the other day because I couldn't find a write-up for a chainsaw. How am I supposed to do a decent cyberpunk streetgang without at least one crazed psycho weilding a chainsaw?

Nailguns are good, too. And, on a bigger scale, a rivet gun!

    Jackhammer...

    Hmmm...

  9. Re: That Mechanon fella jest ain't right: a roleplay question

Could I roleplay him as a teammate? Sure.

Could I roleplay that I didn't expect him to turn evil? Of course.

But, my GM would be as likely as not to NOT turn him evil, just to screw with our heads.

But, my GM wouldn't use Mechanon, he'd use a similar-but-different robot.

But, all that's beside the point. The idea is, yeah, I can seperate my "player" knowledge from my "character" knowledge plenty well enough for that.

Now, would *I* be suprised when he turned evil? No. The Apprentice, though, would be devastated!

"But... But he taught me how to play cheese!"

    "Um, that's chess."

    "Oh-chess. Sorry."

  10. Re: Champions, where are they?

I do not believe the rights reverted I believe Steve Long just did not care for the other members of the Champions and so created new members' date=' some, like Ironclad, based on the 4th edition versions.[/quote']

Er--Except for Nighthawk, they're ALL based on the 4th ed versions.

Or, at least, there are HEAVY correlations...

Well, unless you count Kenetik as the new Jaguar. That's a bigger jump than Seeker to Nighthawk.

  11. Re: The Harbinger of Justice Thread

    Overshadow?

I always looked at him as... Well, besides something fun to play in a "good-grief they're tough" champions setting...

I saw him as a (to borrow a video game term) "sub-boss." He's taking down bad guys--HIS way--and the PC's need to stop him because... uh... The lawyers will go out of business!

Okay, seriously--I always liked him... Just because he's THERE doesn't mean you can't use the book for whatever, though. Heck, him being on the cover isn't even a definite statement to the game type. He was on the last DC cover, and the stuff inside was about hero-level campaigns mostly. (ooh--a revamp of boogyman? come to think of it, I never have used that...)

Sorry, got sidetracked. Point is, he's just a guy. You decide what parts of the book you use, and DOJ has done a dang good job of making every book so far very universal... I have no doubt that DC will be just as useful.

  12. Re: A Unique Problem

A couple of martial manuevers (from the karate classes when he was a kid)?

Maybe a combat knife he picked up off a defeated foe?

How about upping his defences a little?

    Ooh--gliding! Gliding is always fun!

Uh... What exactly IS your character? (%)
