I wonder how one could create the Doctor from "Doctor Who" as a Champions character... he's on life 8 at the moment of 13 (he can regenerate 12 times' date=' remember, although he'll be on life 9 in fall 2005 when the series comes back on the air)...[/quote']

I'll let someone more familliar with the series handle his skills, but here's the regeneration:

    Regeneration:
Healing 20 BODY, Resurrection, Persistent (+1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2); 12 Charges which Never Recover (-2 1/4), Side Effects, Side Effect occurs automatically whenever Power is used (Completely Transforms Appearance & Personality; -2), Extra Time (Regeneration-Only) 1 Turn (Post-Segment 12) (-1 1/4), Resurrection Only (-1/2), Self Only (-1/2)
    Cost: 59

Man, healing is way over priced. There's no reason restoring to full health should be so crazy expensive.

From a receiving point of view yes' date=' she is able to pick up quite a bit of information by listening to people talk. Much in the way the existing psionics are already written for her. It should complement her psionics. Although perhaps conversation may not be accurate. hrmm.. In Cyberpunk it was 'Human Perception' but basically the ability to read people without the use of her mental powers. This would actually work pretty good along those lines, since she is able to say things to people that scare the pants of them.[/quote']

Well, she does have Conversation on an 8- as an Everyman Skill, and the +6 Overall levels. The GM can choose to give her the bonus for a roll of 14-, which is pretty good. That sounds like the effect you are describing.

  4. Re: Character Brainstorming

He's now a committed anarchist' date=' dedicating his life to trying to encourage the populace to overthrow order.[/quote']

Um. If that's his goal, he is not an anarchist.

You know the symbol most associated with anarchism? The A in the circle? Did you know the circle is an O, and it comes from the phrase "Anarchy is order."?

Anarchist are dedicated to overthrowing violent, coercive states and replacing them with social order based on mutual cooperation and noncoercive persuassion.

Someone dedicated to overthrowing order who be a chaosist. Because lack of order is chaos. Lack of state is anarchy.

  5. Re: Firefly HERO Website Up

    - You may want to give KS: Reavers to Mal' date=' Zoe, Wash and maybe Jayne.[/quote']

But...nobody knows anything about the Reavers. They're just a big scary mystery.

    - River INT is way to high, a INT 23 with skills levels would work better.

According to Joss's commentary, she predicts the future by correlating all available data and making instanteous decisions. I don't know how smart you have to be to accurately predict the future like she does, but 30 sounded about right to me. Also, all of that scientific knowledge she has isn't from extensive studying. It's just stuff she figures out on her own.

  6. Re: Firefly HERO Website Up

hmm.. ok regarding River (since she is my fave)

I would lose the Psyche Lim: Coward and replace it with Delusions, Failure to Recognize Surroundings. Or possibly a Fear of Leaving Home (Serenity).

Psych Lim: Coward is something I've used in my Hero games for over a decade. I will eventually get a description of the lim up there, but essentially PsychLim: Coward means that the character is never "in combat", they are always at 1/2 OCV and 1/2 DCV, and cannot purchase combat skill levels, or martial arts. The character is unable to "keep their cool" in combat.

It's extremely appropriate for Kaylee, and I thought it was also appropriate for River because she doesn't have any combat training, has never displayed any combat skill, and when she pulled her "blind shot" trick, she specifically ahd to make sure she didn't watch what she was doing.

Drop the INT down to 28, and pick up Conversation as a full skill. If I had the patience (and wasn't at work) I'd try and figure out a way to turn 'morbid and creepafying' into some bonus presence for a presence attack.

You think River is a good conversationalist, able to subtley work people for information? Because I gotta say, I'm not seeing it.

  7. Re: Archaeology skills

You might add a familiarity with Paleontology. It's pretty hard to spend much time studying archeaology and geology without picking up something on the subject. Some Anthropology might be a good idea as well.

  8. Re: Firefly HERO Website Up

At a glance, this is a great-looking site with great information and some nicely written discussions of the characters.

A minor point: One thing you might want to look into is running a spell-check, particularly checking to make sure that you've got the characters' names spelled correctly. For example, it should be "Malcolm," not "Malcom" and "Shepherd," not "Shepard."

Spell check, right, right. Always forget that.

  9. Re: Target: Earth!

Microwaves definetely sound like the culprit to me. A giant microwave beam that converts all of the magma at the core into superheated plasma, and the resulting expansion tears the planet into pieces.

  11. Re: Firefly HERO Website Up

That looks really good! I especially like the layout, both the way it looks on the page, and the way you have organized the information...

I didn't notice any links to the HeroDesigner files or printable versions. Is this by design?

If you look to the left edge of the pages with character sheets, you should see two links PRINT and FILE. PRINT will d/l the .rtf version, and FILE will d/l the .hdz

  12. Re: Firefly HERO Website Up

The River link doesn't seem to work :( Also' date=' what points are you basing the game on? 100+100? Personally, I'd think it was a 75+75 game, with the NPCs (Mal and his gang) having experience spent. Good idea though :) Looking foward to seeing some of the packages ;)[/quote']

I really wanted to be able to include the Cinematic Fighting martial arts on most of the fighting characters, so I went with 100+100.

The River link, hmm? I'll check it out. Edit: I'm dumb, and forgot to upload that section. It's fixed now.

How washed out are the graphics? My monitor is very dark, and I just checked it out on my roommates monitor (which si very bright) and they looked extremely washed out, far more so than I intended.

  13. Re: Favorite Television Characters

This is a tricky one... Mal seems quite willing to kill anyone who messes with his ship or crew' date=' without any real difficulty (see Train Job) and he certainly didn't seem reluctant to kill folks during the War. I'm not entirely sure how appropriate this would be as a Psych Lim for the character. To me, having it implies that he gets second thoughts about killing people, and can only manage to do it with an Ego roll, which doesn't match with my impression of Mal in the show. Sorry, just a little nitpick! :D[/quote']

No, I agree totally. This was my first attempt, and I'd only watched about half the episodes. I based the CvK on his actions in "Shindig", where he spares Atherton's life. Now that I've seen all of them, my latest version of Mal has no such limitation.

When I saw him kick Niska's henchman into Serenity's turbines, while bound and disarmed, simply because he said "I'll hunt you don", I was like "Uh, nevermind, that guy has no code vs killing at all!"

  14. Fans of Firefly may be interested in my Firefly HERO site, a campaign resource for running Star HERO adventures in the Outworlds of Firefly.

It's still under construction, but the site is up, and write-ups (including .hdz files) are available for Malcom, Inara, Jayne and River. More will go up over the following weeks.

Please check it out and tell me what you think!

PPS - I didn't dislike it, not particularly anyway, either, just found it boring.[/quote']Which episodes did you see? I caught the aired pilot when it first aired, and didn't watch it again. Then a good friend loaned me the box set, and it sat around my house for a few months til she came over and made me sit down and watch the episode "Jaynestown", which totally hooked me. Out of the 13 eps on in the set, the aired pilot is the absolute worst, as it was rushed into production. On that note, he's the latest, First Mate Zoe Warren.Zoe WarrenPlayer: Gina Torres

I fed off a flowerperson, and I spent the next six hours watchin' my hand move." Background: Known in real-life as William the "Bloody" because his poetry was so "bloody awful" that everyone he knew would mock and laugh, Spike's vampire nickname came from his favourite means of torture - railway spikes. Before being turned, his mortal life was miserable: the one thing he loved in the world, Cecily, did not return his affection. She said that he was beneath him. William caught the eye of Drusilla and he soon after became Spike. Spike traveled the world with the trio of Angel, Darla and Drusilla, causing death and destruction everywhere he went. It wasn't until Angel mentioned the "Slayer," that Spike found a new purpose in life. He became obsessed with killing the slayer. He finally got his utmost desire when he killed his first slayer during the boxer rebellion. Spike killed his second slayer in New York during the 70's. He would then spend time in Europe with Dru and finally had to return to America after an angry mob in Prague almost killed her.

Spike came to Sunnydale in order to restore Drusilla back to perfect health. Since he had some time on his hands, he began an obsession with killing the slayer. He tried time and time again to rid himself of the slayer, but she stopped every plan that he hatched. After one particularly bad plan involving killing Angel to make Dru better, Spike found himself helpless in a wheelchair. It wasn't too soon after that Angelus returned and made Spike's life hell. He had to sit around helpless as Angelus began to work his way back into Dru's dead cold heart.

To get Dru back, Spike formed an alliance with Buffy to stop Angelus from ending the world. His part of the bargain was to take Dru and leave Sunnydale. This move would cost him Dru's love.

In order to exact his revenge on Buffy, Spike came back to Sunnydale and kidnapped Willow and Xander to work a love spell. He wanted Dru back and thought this spell will do it. He called off the spell and decided to get Dru back on his own. They were happy for a time, but all she could sense was the slayer.

Spike returned to Sunnydale for the Gem of Amarra, a gem that would make him impervious to all means of death. Once again, his plan failed and he was soon caught by the Initiative and fitted with a chip that wouldn't allow him to hurt any living creature. He started to develop feelings for Buffy and became a reluctantly accepted part of the Scooby gang when his vampire strength was needed, but always at arm's length and never completely trusted. - http://www.angelfire.com/grrl/helygenshaven/Buffycharacters_spike.html

Powers/Tactics: Spike likes to hit things very hard and make them hurt. He fights like an animal, stalking his prey, leaping on it, and tearing it to pieces. He is incredibly agile, but there si no grace in what he does, only savagery.

Spike is a vampire, and as such is super strong, fast, and is a master of martial arts. He has fangs, a scary demon face, drinks blood, hates crosses, and can only be killed by fire, sunlight, decapitation, and a wooden stake through the heart.

Because of the inhibitor chip in his brain, Spike cannot attack normal humans. Any conscious attempt to directly injure a normal human results in horrible, staggering pain.

Cool, that actually looks pretty close. I might drop his strength to 35, since he strained to lift large trucks. Give him some HA to make up the difference. He also needs a presence attack roar, because TV Hulk would roar and people would get that "I just wet myself!" look.
