  1. Re: Taking Names

X skill levels, useable in all combat, only vs. opponents has fought before.

"You're on my list. I know your powers, your moves, your style. I'll beat you even easier next time."

I like that it's easy and simple. I was also thinking of Dispel vs. Presense Only vs. opponents you have defeated before -1 to -2. "I've beaten you once, now you're not worth my time."

  2. Re: One-Shot. One Hero.

I agree with AmadanNaBriona, if I'm running a one shot game Horror and Survival are the ways I prefer to go. It gives the GM a bit of a chance to take out a bit of aggression on the player. In a one shot game the player isn't going to have an attachment, unlike their normal game, so you can feel free to harass, beat, intimdate and even kill off the player. (From experience I've always found it's best to make sure the player "bites it" in a spectacular disgusting way.)

Some other on-shot games ideas I've played in are Martial Arts tournaments, a Looney Tunes-Hero game, and a Hero's in a Super-Hero world game. Examples of each are; Martial Arts tournament ie: Mortal Kombat or most Bruce Lee movies.

Looney-Tunes Hero was a friends idea that we played Buggs and Daffy trying to out-wit, the GM, Elmer Fudd. (Lots of slapstick and word-games)

The Hero's in a Super-Hero world game was we were the "new guys" on the block of Hero's. (Lots of trying to make it to crimes, but getting there and finding Captain Fabulous had just betten us there. Quite a bit like the opening to Mystery Men. Big Laughs from just blowing off steam.)

  3. Re: Need Judge Dread's Lawgiver Stats

I had a similar weapon in a game, I went with the easy way though.

1 1/2d6 RKA (Variable Advantage +1/2) +1, OAF -1, Charges, Incantations required for advantage change -1/4

It doesn't do EVERYTHING exactly, but it was close enough for me.

  4. Re: Best example of role-playing a disadvantage

I was bringing in a new character after my last one was mutilated. New character, Steele, was a brick with lots of large chunks of low grade steel running through his body.

Big Baddy is a lightning projecting, weather controller. Everyone goes in and attacks, I hang out in the back throwing everything I can get my multiple limbs and stretching on. When people were flying backwards from the baddy's knockback, I would catch some of them and "fast-ball special" them back into combat.

Everything is all said and done and the GM said that was the most interesting use of stretching he had ever seen... "But why didn't you get into the fight? You're a brick."

Then I reminded him of the Vulnerability X2 Body and X1 1/2 Stun from Electrical attacks.

  5. Re: 2 4th Ed. Qs: CP "loans?"; Multipowers & advantages?

Oh, well in that case. It would be up to the GM. Personally, I don't usually quibble too much about one or two extra points, but if the player is buying a package that is already heavily discounted and/or "character driven" (earned in game, background story, etc etc) I would encourage the player to save the XP. (Anything they save up for will be worth it)

  6. Re: 2 4th Ed. Qs: CP "loans?"; Multipowers & advantages?

    1) No, I've never run into a situation where only one of my players would be "gaining an upgrade", and even less likely is a player willing to "loan" the points out.

    2) You are correct the cost and advantages of a slot in a Multipower cannot exceed the AP of the Multipower, but the example you show is an Elemental Control pool. EC's do not have the same restraints.

  7. Re: Fumbled Seduction Roll

I can almost picture it in my head, "Hey pretty lady how you doing tonight? Wanna go back to my place and make a few naughty videos?"

I agree with you SS that rolling an 18 is an unusually bad thing, so something out of the ordinary should occur. If this is a "long-term" NPC, have the person getting seduced remember them acting like this for quite sometime. (Minuses to all Social Skills) I know that I've had to work for years to finally get people to forget when I was a jerk to them.

Just be as cheesy and slimy as you want.

EDIT: I re-read the original, I thought a PC was the seducer not the seducee.

  8. Re: Value of Anti-Linked

What if the Powers are part of a well-put-together Elemental Control? What if the Powers are part of a larger Multipower that has a Reserve that is big enough for both of them to be active at once? What if the Powers are part of a' date=' "single spell," that you want to put into a VPP?[/quote']

Personally I think that you're over-thinking this. In all those situations I would say use the lockout disadvantage. You're original idea is a good one, and one that is already in place in the Hero system. (In the rules the limitation is a much more limited version.)

Another way of saying it is: Limited power (Cannot be used with power X) -1/2

  9. Re: How do you Ignore Armor?

To each their own play style, I was making a spell like what he asked for.

I personaly would not disalow this spell in My games (and they can try to pry the 5edR from my cold dead hands). However I can see how it would me inaproriot in other games. (My current Fantasy game is very much on the Super Heroic level with 620 point characters however to each there own.) I have also played in games were the players were not allowed to have any "STOP" powers at all with out special permision & restricted to 30 AP attacks. But without info on the level of power of his game I created a spell that fit his desire.

    :bounce:

Ndreare, OK you are correct and I apologize. I didn't take into account that you may be playing at higher point levels than I would. (Much higher than I've ever played at actually)

For designing the power that asked for, you have done admirably Ndreare.

Tywyll, I re-read your original post and I think you might have a misunderstanding. NND and AVLD attacks don't just ignore "one part" of defense. If you don't have the defense required (ie: non-metal armor, self-contained breathing, etc.) you take all (if the power is bought NND), or a portion (if bought as AVLD) of the damage rolled.

  10. Re: How do you Ignore Armor?

This is a very power full spell for only 37 points

27: Tywill's Iron Maiden: RKA 1D6-1 (vs. PD), Personal Immunity (+1/4), AOE Accurate (+1/2), Does BODY (+1), AOE (4" Radius; +1), Selective (+1/4), AVLD (Having Natrural rPD or Magical rPD; +1 1/2) (27 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), Target Must Be Wearing "Aromor" (-1/2)

    How about the lesser maiden

13: Tywill's Iron Maiden: RKA 1 point (vs. PD), Personal Immunity (+1/4), AOE Accurate (+1/2), Does BODY (+1), AOE (2" Radius; +1), Selective (+1/4), AVLD (Having Natrural rPD or Magical rPD; +1 1/2) (27 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), Target Must Be Wearing "Aromor" (-1/2)

Talk about burly, this guy is doing Body and Stun every attack to 99% of his fows.

Holy crumb! Those are huge spells. If a GM allows them in the game I'd make him turn over his/her copies of 5eR for destruction. AVLD and does Body is more than powerful enough for any attack (fantasy or otherwise), but to drop AOE on top of it make it disgusting.

The big version of the Iron Maiden is sitting at 55 Active Points. That's a ton, lets just compare it to a 4d6-1 RKA.

AVLD and NND Does Body are both costly advantages. They should be! Any power that is built to ignore defenses shouldn't be "cheap". It should cost and cost A LOT!

  11. Re: A Little Stetching Help Please

Stretching tricks... quick thoughts are entangle, clinging, super-leap (special effect is he grabs the edge of a building and pulls himself up), extra strength (getting leverage from reaching around an object), HA with AOE (line, cone or radius). I'd write these up but I don't have my book available to me.

If I can come up with others I'll post them.

  12. Re: More Side Effect questions

    75 point Multipower.

    Limitations:

    Activation Roll: 14- (-1/2)

Side effect: If the roll fails power works at half strength. (-more)

I personally wouldn't allow this in my game, but maybe there can be a "good" explaination as to why this should be allowed.

On first opinion, I would suggest that if this were a single power, that it be purchased as Wanderer or Lord Liaden suggest. (I would lean more toward Liaden's personally) Since this is a power framework, you could run into lots more issues.

Could one of the two of you provide the complete Multipower, and if possible a description? It always helps that when you ask about powers/frameworks to include all the information.

  13. Re: Body Drains and Stunning

    I agree with SS.

My take on this is that by definition a Drain isn't causing damage to a character, it only reduces something (in this case BODY). A healthy character who has been Drained is totally healthy, but has a particular stat lowered.

15 of 15 BODY before the drain, 5 of 5 BODY after the drain, 15 of 15 BODY after the effects of the Drain fade. Always fully healthy.

  15. Re: Skill Sets

I'm not terribly familiar with Skill Sets, but I'll take a stab at some skills for a Theif.

    Theif

    Stealth

    Streetwise

    High Society 8-

    Shadowing 8-

    Conversation 8-

    Persuation 8-

    Bribery 8-

Depending on specialties any of the following can be included:

    Security Systems

    Forgery

    Lockpick

    Sleight of Hand

I'm sure there are a million and one other things you can focus on as a theif, but I look at those and think of them as a decent "core" to start around.

PS: I'll work on more later.

  16. Re: Stormbringer (Hero in a Sword)

Hi all. I've been kicking around an idea about a character, and would like your ideas. Basically, the character's soul is permanently embedded in a weapon. When weilded, the weapon grants the weilder powers, combat lvls, spd, etc.

I was thinking of having a damage shield telepathy/mind control as well, so that the 'weapon' character could interact with the world in a limited fashion.

    Thoughts?

I'm not sure I quite understand what you're wanting to do. Is the sword the character or is the sword just a powerful tool used by the character?

    Answer that and we'll see...

  17. Re: Aiming at the hex versus the foe

How cheesy is it? Well that brings up a few questions. Is there an active point cap on powers in your game? If there is then, no I don't think it's too cheesy. The extra cost associated with the AoE will normally reduce the DC's that a power has compared with just a straight non-advantaged attack.

If there are no active point caps in your game then, yes that character looks really cheesy. "I don't want to spend all those points increasing my DEX/OCV, I'll just buy my attacks AoE"

On the other hand, what about aiming at the hex with a plain old EB or the like? Is this abuse? How about that character with plenty of Penalty Skill Levels to offest range modifiers, who "always" aims at his foe's hex?

Now I'll be the first to admit I'm not as up-to-date on rules as I'd like to be, and I'm not perfect, but I didn't think you could do that with an EB. (Unless you purchased it with a Variable Advantage or through House Rules) Unless I'm mistaken EB's are always fired at a character, not at a hex.

  18. Re: In Real World Terms...

Don't forget your everyday average car. At least when it's exploding, I think the damage was 12-15d6 explosion.

Other than large (very illegal) firearms, vehicles travelling at top speed, or other super-powered beings that character won't take a scratch.

"The stupendous Brick-Man stands in the middle of Fort Bradley's firing range and calls out; "Hit me!"

Pop-Brack-Pop-Brack is all that can be heard as the entire platoon of Infantry men unload clip after clip from their newest weapons at Brick-Man.

As the last of the noise echoes off the surrounding trees, Brick-Man shrugs and pulls off the remains of his new Ralph Lauren polo and asks; "OK, who's bright idea was it to shoot for my eyes?"

  19. Re: Re-imagining the Star Wars universe.

I only have one question: If the Jedi Order "kept peace in the universe" for the reported 1000 generations; but Yoda, Obi-Won and Vader are the "last of that ancient religion"; how come no one remembers Jedi?

Even if Obi-Won has an HUGE boost in his age from the Force and Vader is kept alive by his machines for double his normal lifespan, I just don't see how it is that Jedi are not being talked about. Heck, every idiot in the universe would carry a lightsaber and claim to be a Jedi if only to inspire fear.

    Just my random thoughts.

  20. Re: Side Effects attached to Foci

If I remember correctly the DEF and Body of a Foci can be determined based on the Active Points it "contains". Now as for your question, how do you buy the detrimental effect for when the object is destroyed...I would think that a very low limitation, or no point limitation, that is a Side Effect.

EX: Wand of Fireballs, 4d6 EBlast, AE:One Hex +1/2 (AP:30) Charges 10 -0, OAF -1, If destroyed all remaining charges fire in holders hex -1/4 (Total: 13) (Note: Points aren't perfect, I might be wrong on the advantages/disadvante costs)
