  1. Okay "Death Tribble" here is where "St Barbara" gets all pedantic. "Blucher" was never a german "Pocket Battleship". The first "Blucher" was an attempt by the Imperial German Navy in WWI to create a Battlecruiser. Partly because of some very clever British disinformation she emerged as an enlarged Armoured Cruiser (with 8.2 inch guns) rather than a Battlecruiser(A vessel of Battleship dimensions and armament e g 11 or 12 inch main guns in the case of German vessels, with less armour and higher speed) The "Blucher" of WWII was a standard Heavy Cruiser with an armament of 8" guns, which was permitted under the Versailles Treaty. The first "Blucher' was lost at the battle of Dogger Bank when the Germans discovered that here weaker armament couldn't match it against the British battlecruisers. The second "Blucher' had the distinction of being one of the few large warships lost to a LAND BASED torpedo when she was torpedoed (and shelled) by the Norwegian coastal defences during the German attack on Oslo in WWII. The term "pocket Battleship" rightly applies only to those ships designed by the Germans before WWII to evade the limitations of the Versailles treaty. They were "Lutzow", "Admiral Graf Spee" and "Admiral Scheer" !

  2. Yes,well if we are going to get into how much space our ORIGINS take up i'm sure that we will all be up for several more pages. "St Barbara's" origin is several pages and explains such things as why she has a Dutch S & M porn producer as a (minor) hunted. Unless the @#*&@ has developed super powers I just WISH that he would track "St B" down (Snigger !). I'm sure that she'd like to have a word with him !

  3. I don't know whether anyone has mentioned this or not but when D C Comics first developed the "Elseworlds' concept one of their early stories was "Speeding Bullets" in which young kal-El crashed, not in Kansas, but near Gotham City and was found by the Waynes. The concept of a character with "Superman's" powers and "Batman's" history, origins and attitude was pretty scary ! There also exists a story called "truth, Justice, and the Politically Correct Soialist Path" by John Varley which appears in the anthology "Superheroes" (Ace Books, 1995) which has him landing in the Soviet Union .

  4. Absolutely "Mutant For Hire". Again harking back to when i was creating characters around the world I had two nations "Hispaniola" (A combination of "Haiti" and "The Dominican Republic") and Colombia as "Metarchies" (countries controlled by supers !) I did this because the heros that I had in the general area were either too scattered or too busy to stop them when they were setting things up, and because from these two places the villains can do lots of nasty things throughout BOTH Americas ! It is easy to imagine "Dr Destroyer" or "Terror Inc" taking over some third world country and using it as a base, while claiming "diplomatic immunity !" (In a bad South African accent !) whenever they are about to be arrested by the heros/authorities !

  5. Gee I have a nice, simple little energy projector and the character sheet runs to about eight pages. I hate to think what it might look like if I had "multiform" or "followers' or a vehicle ! Please chief "st. Barbara's" head hurts, can I take an aspirin and lie down for a while ?"

  6. In reply to "Supreme". I remember a quote from a well known S F writer (but I can't remember which one at the moment) quoted in a b ook I read years back. "S F's no good ! They bellow 'till we're deaf. But this is good ! Well then it's not S F"

  7. Oh Damn ! I don't have any way of detecting the bomb ! Can I phone a friend ? Depending on which innocents are being harmed "St Barbara" might just try something cute like a seduction role to convince the villain that SHE is the person that he (or she, "St. B" is broadminded) wants to be with and if the villain will just tell her where that nasty bomb is and it can be disarmed they can go off together and enjoy themselves and leave those poor passengers alone. Hasn't this person heard of the addage, "make love not war ?" Not being a tease (well, not REALLY) she would be prepared to not arrest our villain until the next morning, which would at least give the villain something to remember her by !

  8. To "Professor Moss" But of course, a little martian invasion to whet the appetite for World war 11 ! If you can get hold of the comics "All Star Squadron" and "Toung All Stars" are useful material as well. I know that you COULD get the complete "Adventures of Captain marvel" with Tom Tyler a couple of years ago (Which is when I got it). As others have suggested it is well worth a look. A reference book on the movie serials of the period might give you some ideas as well. I hope that you will tell us how the campaign is getting on at some time in the future.

  9. Interesting thoughts. I must admit that I hadn't thought much about the ageing process with regards to characters. I suppose that I should have. "St Barbara" was eighteen when the game first started but without asking the referee I can't be certain how much time has passed, particularly as we are "off dimension" so I can't be sure how old Pia is in "Earth prime" as our ref refers to it. (In case I didn't mention it earlier, Pia Elfstrom is "St Barbara's" real name). I assume that we have been playing for a year, maybe two, in "game time' so I suppose that she is about twenty ? (She still looks about fifteen or sixteen however!)
